If parallels and crossover can bring gaming inside apple machine . Why cant apple itself invest in a team to make gaming possible with someother feature like Rosetta !
Yup, what this other guy said. “Money” being the key word there. There’s no financial incentive for apple to support games outside of mobile at the moment.
gaming on Mac is not real lmao you can use crossover to play old games on shit fps and graphics lmao just buy a windows pc if you can already buy an m1 mac
Man, these reminds me of my first MacBook when I loved tinkering with games and apps to see what would run on it. And boy am I going to enjoy doing it again. Thanks for your work.
Sorry in advance for the time maschi e effect ( your comment is from 10 months ago lol) but how is it performing? Are you using parallels 17? Which games have you tried?
Hypervisors are always gonna bet better, because CrossOver/WINE/Porting Kit etc.. will run allot of games on M1, but will not run many newer games, plus there are no Direct X 11 that Parallels can use. WHile there is overhead, the trade off is well worth it depends on the type of game. For example, i've run 1990 games on VMWare and Parallels, and Porting Kit, and Cross Over/Porting Kit, run at full speed, but with exceptions of games... There is a trade off. Personally, all of these are just 'filling the gap' for convenience sake... If you want to run AAA titles get a gaming PC. FWI: I dunno if Parallels allow this, but if TPM is not for you, unlike a physical PCl you can just remove TPM entirely from VM Settings, and it works just fine.... (or maybe its a bug in VMWare.. *shrugs*)
I ran GTA V just fine, from my Steam install via Crossover, without any cracks/hacks. Performance is quite good, running off an external m.2 drive even, not main SSD. M1 Pro Macbook Pro 16", 16GB of RAM. Main issue is shadow quality in the game, and once in a great while, i had a lockup for like 1-3 seconds to load stuff into memory I guess. But I also had other apps open when running the game/sucking up RAM.
In the future, a third option 'should' be BootCamp 2 from Apple, with Windows ARM, and this time around, with the ability to install this on an external drive right out of the box.
I think it would've been good to show a counterexample to the kind of trend you showed off with the games (Parallels being slower but Crossover being potentially more buggy). For example Team Fortress 2 runs smoothly in Parallels but really slowly/unplayable at the lowest settings in Crossover.
Thanks I would've if I had examples, however not that many games work in both. I actually hadn't had luck getting Team Fortress 2 working on CrossOver however I have heard CrossOver 21 makes this game run better.
@@Andytizer I've tried with both Crossover 20 and 21 when it came out and I was getting the same performance (a choppy 10 to 25 fps with random crashes once in a while on a 16GB MBA)
@@kit_ty_kate That's good to know I'll test and record a video in the future. It just goes to show there are exceptions to all the generalisations and it's essential to check/update the wiki as each game performs compeltely differently on each method.
For future owners: 8GB version is very capable device for its intended use ... i can do photoshop, premiere edits and cinema 4d animations without any issue on this tiny laptop with killer battery life. 16GB version is just not worth it for 200eur plus (depends on your country but i guess the markup will be very similar). If u plan to game tho, just get something else. Yeah there is very expensive parallels that scams its users with every new realease not being free upgrade, and crossover that have compatibility issues. Even if u dont mind to overpay for 16G version and software, u still have a lot of work to do to even run most of these games ... its not install and play most of the time. The experience is just not worth the effort and money. Im not trashing devs for their amazing work, but if gaming is what u want to do here, rather burn your money right away.
I still prefer Parallels VM because modding in Windows directory structure and some game related applications - Nexus Mods, Steam Workshop, Alternative Mod launcher etc... as well as the myriad of emulators and game front ends - Launchbox, coin-ops, Playnight, etc... Depending the Macs and resources/drivers allocated to the VMs it offers more overal than Crossover if you are into the aforementioned things, even if it has less performance.
Apple fanboys need to buy games at full price and may be some games will be develop on the mac. For the price of a M1/512gn/16gb you have a Pc laptop with a very high end graphic card. but fan boy don't buy games.
As I mentioned in one of your other videos. The virtual TPM chip option is available in the Standard version of Parallels as well you don’t have to have the Pro.
@@aha6781 You can check out previous videos on introduction of Parallels 17 in this channel. Since Windows 11 required TPM 2.0, the latest edition has an option to create virtual TPM chip in settings. But the real problem of incompatibility lies in CPU(based on results from WhyNotWin11, which can be found on Github). In latest Windows 11 version Apple Silicon Chip(m1) can now be identified and it's considered to be not compatible with official Windows 11 Build later.

Great video, as usual Andrew!! I have to say what is the point of getting either solution on the M1 Macs. Simply is not worth the trouble of finding work-arounds and then getting poor performance. At this point in time, we live in a world where Macs and PCs justify their niches - productivity and gaming.
Yes this is a completely valid point, you can end up paying quite a lot for Parallels or CrossOver but ultimately if you want to game, just buy a PC or a console and you'll have a much better experience. Certainly for me I think there are enough macOS games to last a lifetime for casual gaming.
Well, it's not stellar but you can definitely see the direction things are going. Not too long from now the power of the machines will be so great that we'll easily get 60fps at high settings and high resolution. A 16GB (or even 32GB) MacBook Pro with 50% (or possibly even 100%) more cores plus more graphics power will bring things up another big notch. I'm contemplating a PC laptop just for gaming but will wait until the next MacBook Pro running the next chip comes out before pulling the trigger since I need to upgrade my current Mac laptop anyway. Having one machine for everything has its advantages. Plus, perhaps the Macs won't sound like a jet engine when playing a game.

CrossOver is the commercial version of Wine, which is just a compatibility layer, its obviously going to be much faster than emulate an game in a full Windows install on top of a virtual machine., but since Wine is reverse engineered, is much more difficult to make everything 100% compatible, and Apple deprecating 32-bit support doesn't help sadly.
What about older games? Are they easier to run? Some of my favourite games are not on the list, but they are not demanding, should I assume they are not compatible with parallels if they are not on the list? Thanks for the testing!
Great video. Playing to get crossover on a Mac mini m1. Will it be possible to access steam library running through crossover on a mobile device via steam link? Same question for parallels though and what’s your suggestion for my setup?
there are two options wine(crossover) or you put Linux on the mac and run steam proton via box64 and proton is wine with dxvk und vkd3d which are needed to translate directx to vulkan which is the fastest on Linux
Just came across your excellent video. I’ve been wondering for months about this very issue. One question, I’m a great fan of No Man’s Sky but it doesn’t appear in your Master Games List. Do you know anything about whether and how NMS can be played on the M1 Macs?
I’d like to see the first watch dogs. And I want to see the games same test but on the newly announced MacBook Pro. I ask for the first watch dogs because I’m using it to test parallels on my machine and it’s basically unplayable. Want to know if it’s a watch dogs thing or parallels thing.
There's no contest on a Mac M1 mini 8GB, CrossOver wins by a landslide. Played Mafia 2: DE with maxed out graphics settings and it ran better than any platform I've ever used. Set frame rate to 120. Don't forgot to enable all Bottle graphics settings except default.
Basically your saying using all 4 methods of play, native, parallels, wine(whiskey bottler), cross over and finally xbox game pass stream, Apple's now have access to every known game.
Don’t forget Xbox game pass to stream your games. Might be the easiest and best thing to do for a mac m1 with it hardwired to the router. Just another option.

Thanks for the great video, I want to play It Takes Two on my Mac M1 - I see on your list it is ranked as "Plays perfectly on Crossover" but are you able to play online with a friend? Also looking to play Left4Dead2, i see its ranked as "Playable" but does online work?
Great video, I wonder what risks would be involved in running a cracked and potentially infected version of GTA V via Crossover, would malware be able to run under Crossover and cause harm?
Wine was great, and third-party Wine versions that got created after the official WIne got discontinued on macOS, but it only runs .exe files, which eliminates one of the already few games I play, Minecraft Bedrock. I also personally intend to use Windows for non-gaming stuff, so I will probably just get Parallels. Prefer VMware Fusion, but I remember VMware saying that they weren't going to add Windows support on Macs with Apple Silicon, so Parallels remains the only option for me.
Using it for work and not concerned with the set up cost (parallels) or set up time (VMware or UTM) I just want whats best. Parallels or VMware or UTM?
So ... how do you think Win ARM x86-64 games will run on the M1x? Trying to decide whether to buy the 16" MacBook Pro, 32 GPU, 2 TB SSD with 32 or 64 GB RAM.
is crossover free? I only know parallels is paid. I play plants vs zombies garden warfare 2 on steam with parallels and using the free 2 week trial. Runs really well on my m1 MacBook Pro 2021
So a Macbook with lets say 32GB of RAM would spend 16GB on Paralels resulting in only half of its potential being used? Why does paralels just always use 4gb since thats what it needs? Surely theres a setting to change that o,O
Great video as always. Really interested in getting new game Riders Republic running on a Mac Mini M1. What would be best setup though? Will it work on Crossover? What’s your view and possible testing to get 60 FPS for riders republic on Mac
I own GTA V on Epic Games, but as stated in the video, I would need to have a fully cracked version of the game to run this. Could someone point me to a working releaser or name of the scene where I could download a version of this game that's compatible with Crossover? I've tried so many from FitGirl or other repacks but just doesn't seem to run at all. A tutorial on this would be very very much appreciated.
I couldn't get Robocop or Ghost Wildlands to work in cross over unfortunately. Too bad there's not a guide for each game on how to get it to run. Good thing they let you try it first. Its way to janky atm.
hi, i would love to have a recommendation to play Honkai Star Rail (windows version) on Macbook Air M2 running Sonoma, should i use CrossOver 23.5 or Parallels Desktop? thx
what's better for games like NFS MW, underground , and is latest Crossover slower & more hot than 23.7.1, I have M1 & in most wanted in police chase starts to lag & laptop to get hot even if I play everything on low just highest res wich on M1 is 1270 I think
Until there is an ARM version of Windows I think Crossover might be my choice - may give it a chance. I have a random Laser Cutting App that I need Windows for and I'm curious to see if it will work or not. I really wish MS would support ARM better (hopefully they may actually soon). I subscribe to Parallels, but the biggest issue is nothing w/ M1 other than ARM. I have just been using my Intel MBP for my Windows stuff.
Do you have a copy of windows 10 arm that works on parallels on a MacBook Pro M1 max? Every time I download a version it said it cannot install it, I have the blue screen of death
i have a macbook air m1 8gb .. i tried playing assassins creed brotherhood through parallels but it heats... and i think its more than normal temperature
Great video, do you know an M1 / ARM virtual platform that runs / supports Linux Red Hat OS? I tried Paralells, but I dont think it supports it, maybe im wrong.
I appreciate your effort on the videos, keep up the good work. Did you run GTA V with CrossOver on a controller? I experienced heavy lag while trying to run the same on keyboard.
Hey Andrew! Could you tell me how to install a cracked version of GTA5 on Mac? What we can usually find is GTA5 for Windows while there is no selection of GTA5 on CrossOver menu. I once tried to install exe file through Crossover and failed to find the shortcut on CrossOver to start the application:( I must be a green hand, SO I need some help.

1080p 60fps on GTA V is pretty impressive I think apple is going to surprise in the next event big apple arcade update
M1 Max gang coming soon...
@@TreyTV0m4 Max available now.
Thanks for the great video, I want to play It Takes Two on my Mac M1 - I see on your list it is ranked as "Plays perfectly on Crossover" but are you able to play online with a friend? Also looking to play Left4Dead2, i see its ranked as "Playable" but does online work?
Great video as always!
Thanks again!
well u say parallels lacks of ram, but is depending on Mac u have? I have 48gb ram 16 core cpu
Great video, I wonder what risks would be involved in running a cracked and potentially infected version of GTA V via Crossover, would malware be able to run under Crossover and cause harm?
Probably more than if you bought the game. Don’t pirate
@@LaurenGlenn I agree with you. Pirating is not the goal/intention here though. Did you watch the entire video?
Very clear and helpful! thank you
Wine was great, and third-party Wine versions that got created after the official WIne got discontinued on macOS, but it only runs .exe files, which eliminates one of the already few games I play, Minecraft Bedrock. I also personally intend to use Windows for non-gaming stuff, so I will probably just get Parallels. Prefer VMware Fusion, but I remember VMware saying that they weren't going to add Windows support on Macs with Apple Silicon, so Parallels remains the only option for me.
have you had success with launching a .exe on Mac with Wine? I'm struggling to figure it out rn
What’s better: i9 intel 2019 MacBook with windows or new m2 with machine ( parallels) ???
Using it for work and not concerned with the set up cost (parallels) or set up time (VMware or UTM) I just want whats best. Parallels or VMware or UTM?
So ... how do you think Win ARM x86-64 games will run on the M1x?
Trying to decide whether to buy the 16" MacBook Pro, 32 GPU, 2 TB SSD with 32 or 64 GB RAM.
Can I download Xbox to the crossover on my Mac?
is crossover free?
If you install Process lasso in a virtual machine to
elevate the game's CPU permissions to higher than the standard
FPS, maybe it will up?
I own GTA V on Epic Games, but as stated in the video, I would need to have a fully cracked version of the game to run this. Could someone point me to a working releaser or name of the scene where I could download a version of this game that's compatible with Crossover? I've tried so many from FitGirl or other repacks but just doesn't seem to run at all. A tutorial on this would be very very much appreciated.
RELOADED works.
@@Amruth how did you install it
@@Amruth like from step one using crossover because all the tutorials I watch are on windows devices
Does Genshin Impact work with Parallels? Good job with all of your videos by the way, really underrated.
And all this works on fanless machine..how does it perform after few hours of playing?
Would you say 8gb sufficient? Why is that 16gb is highly recommended? Thanks.
There is an arm version of windows.. but apple made the drivers proprietary so nothing can be done
8:25 damn that's some ultimative M1 gaming experience
It works at over 60 FPS now through CrossOver :).
Great video, do you know an M1 / ARM virtual platform that runs / supports Linux Red Hat OS? I tried Paralells, but I dont think it supports it, maybe im wrong.
What version of FIFA or PES works perfectly with crossover on mac M1? 🤔
I appreciate your effort on the videos, keep up the good work. Did you run GTA V with CrossOver on a controller? I experienced heavy lag while trying to run the same on keyboard.
Yes I ran GTA V with a controller. It is possible to fix this keyboard lag bug using a custom Wineskin.
@@Andytizer any additional info or howto for that wineskin?
Age of Empires 4- that's the game I'd buy either of these for. Do you know if it's compatible?
Andrew, how about using earlier versions of Windows that aren’t so resource intensive but still have game compatibility? Would games run faster?
Which is better for running cs go? Rosetta or crossover?
Just bought it using your code, awesome video showcasing the differences. Already had Parallels.
I plan on playing no mans sky, is there a chance I will still be able to play multiplayer on one of parallels or cross over?
hey andrew will you do the new wine update buddy?
The issue with crossover is that it has an issue running 32bit games.
I have macbook pro M1 and I install windows 11 arm using parallels and yet cannot launch fifa 21 thru origin any idea please ?
Can i connect and use my logitech g29 wheel using crossover or parallels?
Hey uh do you know how to use CrossOver? Because I'm quite new to it and don't know how to use it
Which is better for guild wars 2?
Hey Andrew! Could you tell me how to install a cracked version of GTA5 on Mac?
What we can usually find is GTA5 for Windows while there is no selection of GTA5 on CrossOver menu.
I once tried to install exe file through Crossover and failed to find the shortcut on CrossOver to start the application:(
I must be a green hand, SO I need some help.
I played Skyrim on my 2013 Macbook Air (8GB RAM) using Parallels.
