  • H.W. compares the Kingsley Jouster, Minstrel and Jouster. The Kingsley Minstrel features a 3 band eq making it a bit more flexible, the Kingsley Jouster features an extra channel and the Kingsley Harlot seems to reach from low gain to high with ease. What's your favorite?

    I wish you have stacked the Minstrel & the Harlot and compared that with the high gain channel of the Jouster. Oh, well. I guess I'll have to wait for mine to arrive to see how they sound stacked. I was hoping to know first, but nobody does it.

    you ever try any of these through your bella? you and I have a very similar rig... Suhr classic S, Kingsley pedal (Jester), Suhr Bella (reverb head). Love the response of the pedal but something about the EQ isn't doing it for me. Thinking about a speaker swap.

      @ToneJunkieTV  7 лет назад +1

      todonne3 I've found the pedal to be just about the best amp pedal platform out there. What speaker are you using, I've got whatever is stock in the combo. Are you using the matching Suhr cab?

      @todonne3 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your reply. Using the suhr badger 1x12 with a scumback m75. The badger cab is a bit smaller than the bella cab. I am planning on buying a matching bella 1x12 with the stock v type speaker. However, I have head that 2x12s with creambacks sound spectacular with that amp as well.

      also, I agree. I didn't sell the pedal because i love the feel of it. Going to try a cab/speaker swap first before anything else changes

      Probably a Page. I have a Page v1. Page v2 has some nice options.

      You can use the the boost on a jester if you are just looking for a very sparkly clean sound with a hint of mids (there is a selector switch). I think there are also some simpler boosts, bit the jester is a very good compromise.

    The Jouster has better dynamics than than the other two overall. Shame they stopped making it! The Harlot was a bit dull and farty. I'm a high gain kind of player so the Jouster had it for me. I guess the Minstrel wasn't far off but still lacked the Jouster's attitude. With the settings in it's 'happy place' the Jouster is stunning.

      Robert Graden Hey Robert! I'm loving it! I paid a premium for these because I got them all used and they usually go for more on the used market since there is no wait but they are super hard to find.

    I do not understand... Is he using Kemper profiling amp for these tone tests. Has the world got insane ! Where are the tubes ? Where are the even order harmonics etc., etc., etc.! This is not a bedroom setup, this is a pro tone test. The Tone Junkie does not seem to be using authentic amplification. hmmmm
    I mean I know that this is an impressive profiling amp. But a "profiler" and "modeller" by definition emulates artificially, and is not an authentic source when the full effect is required.
    Man you have everything in place to be a good channel. Good interesting pedals (which is almost impossible now a days), good insights, good ear, good communication, except for your amplification. So then fundamentally flawed. Oh well, I guess I will reluctantly move on to another channel. I may check back from time to time to see if you come to your senses though :)

      I was thinking the same thing. When the video started, I was thinking - "Please don't demo them through a Kemper ....please don't demo them through a Kemper." I own several Kingsley pedals - this is not a good representation of the fullness and tube sag that can be acheived with them. I appreciate the time and effort that you took to make this video - but modeling technology - though better than it's ever been - can't touch a good ol tube amp. That digital sizzle on the top end of the Kemper just ruins these otherwise gorgeous pedals.

      DrProgNerd Simon Jarrett demos them through solid state amps (SD Powerstage), and they sound as good/better than any other 'dedicate' tube amp. Personally, I'm happy to find a demo through a Kemper. I'm considering these pedals for an Atomic Amplifire. And since everyone else and his mother would be putting these through tube amps, it makes this demo all the more valuable.

    • @DrProgNerd
      @DrProgNerd 6 лет назад +2

      The SD PowerStage is - to my knowledge - the only SS amp Simon has used in (a few of) his demos. Along with the demos that came out at that time he was using a Fryette Power Station (6L6's). The purpose of those demos was to show different uses for his preamp pedals. All of his other demos are done on tube amps. I actually think that the Powerstage did pretty well. But there is a thin-ness - a brashiness - that comes off of SS amps that is harsh on my ears. As brilliant as Simon's playing is on the SD, I prefer it on tube amps. There's a natural bloom that happens on tube amps.
      If you are going to use Simon's pedals through a SS rig, then I can see how this was useful to you - and I don't begrudge you that. My point is simply: if you are going to demo a product, show it in the best light.
      Modelling technology has advanced by leaps and bounds - but it's not there yet. There's a digital sizzle on the top end - and the beautiful full low-mids that come from a tube amp are either absent from modelers or they sound completely artificial. H.W. was conscientious in the way he put the demo together - I appreciate that. I wish he would - like Simon - do a similar demo through a tube amp. Because - as you said - "everyone and his mother will be putting them through tube amps."

      Simon demos them through power amps to demonstrate how much better they can make them sound. He only ever demos his preamp units through power amps though, everything else is strat or 335 into a kingsley amp.
