Hi Simon, I so enjoy watching your playing and also your supremely kind manner during various videos! So glad that you relocated to my favourite city, and in the same country I live in. Congratulations on creating some of the most desirable guitar units out there! Best to you!
Hello Simon - love the pedals and amps. Best tones I’ve heard anywhere. I am watching and re-watching your videos to pick out a pair of preamplifier and drive pedals. I think it’s going to be the Page D preamp and the ODS drive pedals (if I’ve remembered their names correctly). I wonder if I can bother you with a question not about pedals or amps but about your approach to picking. Sorry if this question has been asked and answered in the past. If one of the viewers knows the answer I would greatly appreciate your chiming in. Would you please tell me about your pick and/or picking technique? My guess is your pick has an abrasive feature e.g. “grooves” or the like to improve grip. And at times you flip the pick to use the “grooved” portion against the strings. It adds a wonderful attack. Whatever it might be it sounds great! Thanks for your time.
Just so you know, the Page DS when used as preamp on it's own (like to drive a power amp) will sound a bit dark. It wants to be pushed with a clean preamp to do it's thing properly....on the other hand, you can run it on it's own before any amp and it functions more like a regular Page, but with more of a mid emphasis...and of course you can stack them.
Hi Simon. May I ask would the Fryette PS-2 be a good unit with a 65 Fender Princeton Reverb reissue? I can only put my Amp Vol on 2 and I'd like to go to 3.5 or 4. I don't want to Damage my amp. Any input is greatly appreciated. Love your pedals & playing. Stay Safe.
Hi Thibaut - I use a Strymon Ojai to power 4 or 5 of the 9VDC pedals and separate power supplies (that come with the pedals) for the 12VDC ones, like the Jester and Constable.
Hi Simon! I really enjoy your playing. I have a jester custom v2 sizzle on the way I’m really excited. I’ll be running it into an IR loader ( HX stomp with no amp model used). So the jester will serve as my amp. I’ll be pushing it with a bb and ts style drive. What setting would you suggest for the jester? I like a fair amount of a lot drive normally. Thanks !
Hi Matt - thanks! Well that's a big subject....I studied all sorts of stuff. I also went to MI in California, but I encourage people to learn all the basics - theory, ear training etc. Also listen to a variety of styles. I hope to start a new series on youtube that partially deals with music and playing...stay tuned!
Hey Simon, what's with the Presence and Depth settings on the Power Station? I see you've got Presence all the way down and Depth all the way up. Do these pedals not sound right with the Power amp controls at noon?
Can I ask you some questions? Did you use pedal power supply like voodoo lab power or seperat power supply ? If you used power supply like Voodoo lab pedal power, what's your power supply for this pedalboard? I can not find power supply for my constable and page ds. 500ma is so big.
The Power Station has more presence and clarity - a bit more "3D". The PowerStation is nice too though - and smaller... Then there are the different features of each (the PowerStation also has a built in reactive dummy load, the PowerStage 700 is stereo and has lots of power).
PPIMV Can you get the “finger feel” that you’re looking for out of each with some tweaking? Thanks for the replies! You're the only one I've found that has compared these two.
@@Erickchicas No we don't sell the cables, but they are readily available, for example from Voodoo Labs. There are no demos as of yet of the Jester Custom - it's on my list of to do things!
@@PPIMV Please please do a demo of the jester and jester custom and the minstrel, I can't find any good demos online :( and yours are the best, but too few of them.
Overdrives always go first and then into the preamp....the only exception is the Page DS, which goes after the preamp (this is a special case because the Page DS is part of the preamp itself - it was designed to go after then clean preamp).
@@PPIMV Thanks Simon. I guess I'm getting hung up on the D style topology: clean, drive, drive for that D style vibe as you demonstrate in your video with Page ODS & Squire preamp or Page & Page DS.
@@jst601 Yes, I do run the Maiden into the Page DS later in the video - that is the correct way for the ODS circuit topology (but only in the case of the Page DS...all other drives would be before the Maiden, as they will not have been designed to sound good this way - in general they will sound too dark after a preamp).
No - not in any demos so far...I occasionally use it with my Strat on clean tones when I gig, for very mild compression and to lift the output a touch - makes it easier when I then switch to a hotter guitar like my 335 (at which point I would turn it off)...plus it's a good idea to have a buffer (the CS-2 is buffered bypass of course) somewhere near the beginning of the pedal chain.

Gotta say it again, that 335 58VOS is “all you”......phew....,you’re killing me....👍👏
The Jester just shines!
M@N you should expose your style into a educational course ...coz it's damn good !!!!
Sounds great as always Simon....Happy Holidays......
Thanks Glenn - Best of the season to you as well!
Sounds so...good...

Absolutely - the PS-2 was designed for that. I'm only using it as a power amp in the video, but your application is right up the Fryette's alley.

Always such a pleasure to hear you play! I was just wondering: what power supply do you use to power all your valve pedals? Thanks!

I recently switched to the strymon zuma and ojai r30. What a difference! Powers my pedals with ease and is super quiet.
Abram Treadwell same. Small world, fellow Two Rocker ;)
