Happened to mine! 2014 991 with the basic interior. Just had an interior guy add some contact glue to get it to stick. We’ll see how long that last for 🤷🏻♂️🤞🏼. Frustrating for this type of car. My 2008 Nissan Frontier with 220K miles would never have this issue. Interested to know if those new panels are actually properly fixed or will do the same crap over time?? 🤔. Just noticed this has happened on my 2013 C2S, which I bought used. Both doors. Out of warranty of course. Problem with DIY solutions seems to be not interfering with side airbag deployment. If dealers are just replacing with same panels, it will likely happen again. Absolutely unforgiveable for cars that cost what these do. My 2000 BMW 528 interior is still flawless. No excuse for Porsche on this one. They should replace them free for any affected car, but I'm sure they won't.
Yep, this happened to my friend’s 991, just after the warranty expired. At first I heard that it was primarily happening to cars in the hot south, but have been told that it is happening everywhere. My friend ended up buying two panels off of EBay and having a independent mechanic put them on.
Great channel! I have a 15', still under CPO warranty. Bought at 8k, now 24k miles... sunvisor 100% of the time at the office, and garage kept 100% of the time otherwise...and the door panels still warped! Getting them fixed this weekend, thankfully
This is an issue on the cayman 981, 718, and the 991.2 since they are the same door panels essentially. If you have the leather wrapped door panels it doesnt seem to be an issue however, just the base rubberized door panels. I have heard of very few people successful in getting Porsche to cover this defect out of warranty even though it is clearly a very common defect. Especially in warmer climates.
2014 Base here almost 70k miles, top of panel loose on driver side. Recently pulled panel and repaired myself total cost of materials $15 and about 48 hours for it to cure properly. Holding up well no issues noted since.

I had this issue. Took it to Porsche while under warranty and they "replaced it". Happened again a few years later. Called them and they wanted $1,000 to replace. I fixed it for $5.00 and 30 minutes. Buy the 3M flexible glue for door seal adhesion. Works great!
Just noticed this happening to my 2014 C4S last week. Both sides. 8 weeks outside my CPO warranty. I took it to my local dealer who submitted a claim to PCNA. They agreed to cover 50% of the replacement ($5200 installed includes tax/fees) or 100% if the dealer completes my 6 year maintenance and have them retrofit PSE. Needless to say I am looking forward to my new exhaust. (I was going to have them both done anyway)
Great deal!! You're going to love the PSE. I was thinking of updating my 997 PCM to something more modern when I bought it last year, but TBH, I never turn the stereo on when that magic button is activated.

I had that problem on my 2015 911 Carrera S with 22K miles. Removed the door panel, 4 screws and 4 small panels, very quick and easy. Reattached the interior inner panel to the plastic frame with a flexible rubber cement. Good as new.
This happened to me well within the warranty period. Plus, mine was all leather. It took the dealer 1/2 a day to replace. Interesting to know that mine was not an isolated case.
It's a common issue on the 987 Boxster and Caymans too! But I will agree, I swapped my basic panels for full leather and its a much better construction
Haa...I've got a 981 and leave it in a cool garage, just drive it to work and yes, it's outside but that's just 4 days/wk. Aftermarket tint. Both door panels still pulled away. Personally, after visiting the factory I think Porsche just used some eco friendly glue that failed and has since changed formula--but nobody is talking. Anyway, I will fix it myself--thanks for the video.
It happens on leather panels, too, though anecdotally it seems to be less frequent there. And it has also happened on dealer-replaced panels - so at least in some cases, the root cause (bad materials, adhesives) wasn't really fixed.

If I was going to pay out of pocket for replacements I would first take the defective ones to an upholstery shop and let them try to use some adhesive to reattach the material. It should be a simple fix for an experienced upholstery shop.
Unfortunately the plastic and the foam were not only separating but disintegrating beyond repair. I imagine some people would be able to repair their panels, not everyone though.

Hello there. Yes! There are repair options, some better than others, plus it depends just how badly warped your panels are. Some are beyond repair. You're still probably looking at $500 per door panel though, is my guess.
Has Porsche fixed the underlying problem so it won't happen again? My dealer quoted $1,367 for passenger side and $2,068 for driver side on a 2014 Boxster, plus 1.5 hours labor on each. I'm reluctant to spend this much if it will just happen again in a few years. My car is garaged and not subjected to excessive heat or cold.
Hey Raymond, unfortunately even with replacement panels Porsche won't promise that the problem won't reoccur. It's a defect with the panel and the adhesive used. I was quoted similar pricing. This happened to my 991 only 40 days after purchasing from Englewood Porsche in NJ I contacted Porsche North America and Porsche Englewood and they won’t cover it even though I still have 2.5 years of warranty. Very disappointed!!!

Just wondering if you came across any info on that in your research. Edit: just finished the video and you did mention leather costing more, so I’d imagine that leather packaged cars are also susceptible to this warping.
You’re safe if you have the full leather package. There are a ton of threads on this issue on Rennlist and it’s been confirmed that the full leather panels don’t have the “delaminating” issue.
I have a 2015 Cayman 40k miles that is garaged and need to replace both panels. PORSCHE Burlingame wanted to charge me $3k per door. I found and auto Upholstery shop that will re adhere for 400. It's a design issue that porsche has not addressed. I'm really disappointed in Porsche. Do better!

THIS type of crap is absolutely what bugs the heck out of me on these 'premium' german cars. Every car reviewer somehow just say the interior build quality is 'superior' to everything else when it's actually much worse than even a cheap subaru. This happened to my dad's 2005 C4S which he bought as a CPO and porsche won't fix it. They say Porsche tried to save weight which is why but that's a remarkably lame excuse for a high touch high visibility item like this. Just make them so they won't break, perhaps skimp more on the useless rear seats. Ugh, I'm glad I bought a Kia Stinger instead of a 997 lmao.

This is definitely a sign of VW parts. If you are familiar with VW, you will know they have these annoying flaws thru out their models. Now I know why folks always tell me to never to buy the 1st generation of any models. My 997.2 is rock solid and I believe it was the last model built by Porsche before VW took over.

I would go get yours fixed ASAP, then make sure you check the new panels again just before your 2 years of CPO runs out and make sure you don't need them replacing AGAIN! It's true - that can happen. :-(
easy to remove and replace but you have to swap all components and harnesses over to the new panel which will take a bit more time. Panels from the dealer will cost a fortune.
I've had my panels off more times than I care to count, doing audio upgrades and door deadening. There's not much to swap in my base 991.1 - no seat memory, just window switches. It's very straight forward.
1:47 well I would hope Porsche will fix this if you are still within warranty, but even after the warranty expires, this is UNACCEPTABLE. I can buy a car for a fraction of the price and this does not happen to their door panels. The same thing with their change-over valves, coolant pump and coolant leak issues amongst others. Fix the damn problem! Do some testing in all climates and accelerated testing. This coming from a Porsche enthusiast of more than 55 years and now owner for over a decade.
My 2015 911panels separated on both doors. Porsche did nothing to help. Probably cost them several sales of cars beause of the bad image as it is parked in the doctor's parking lot at the hospital daily. Sends out a bad message.

That’s disgusting! Those door panels look identical to the panels used in the late 90’s Super Beetles. They very well could be excess inventory that VW did not want to waste. I would sell it now, before the rest of the car starts to come apart, and buy a 997.2 Turbo.

My car has 2 yrs of CPO remaining and I have the same issue. Did you get it fixed under CPO?
I would go get yours fixed ASAP, then make sure you check the new panels again just before your 2 years of CPO runs out and make sure you don't need them replacing AGAIN! It's true - that can happen. :-(

Just looks like the glue failed in the heat, take them off and re-glue them with a better glue.
