    The reason Churchill included Hungary as part of the South German State in his partition, was to prevent it from falling under Soviet influence.

      When the Czechs invaded Hungary's upper part, even the majority Slovakian settlements asked for the Hungarian army to help repel the invaders. Unfortunately, Mihály Károlyi was a traitor and disbanded the army.
      Transylvania's "unification" with Romania was decided by a few dozen nationalist Romanians in Gyulafehérvár (Alba Iulia) while the rest of the population's opinion was ignored. If there was a voting, most of them would've stayed with Hungary because the living conditions in Hungary were (and still are) far better than in Romania.
      That applies to the rest of the breakaway provinces as well. If there was a voting, most of them would've stayed with Hungary. However, only 1 city had the chance to vote: Sopron. How democratic, right? Sopron had a German majority, yet they still decided to stay with Hungary instead of going to Austria.
      The victorious Entente was the biggest hypocrite in the world. They carved up an empire on the basis of "national self-determination". They destroyed a multi-national state and created 3 others instead. At the same time, they still held the colonial world and its population in chains for decades afterwards.

    5:17 Roosevelt's plan wouldn't have worked with Southern Germany. There's no way Baden an Württemberg would have joined Bavaria. Those three States all are very proud of their own identity, especially Bavaria . When Baden and Württemberg were merged into one federal state (Bundesland), the Badeners voted against it in a referendum, but were outvoted by the Württembergers. To this day there is a movement for a federal state of Baden. Now imagine they would have been asked to join Bavaria, a state which is even further away and is sometimes called a 'nation within the nation' because of its culture which is as distinct as no other state.
    Even I as a Württemberger would have problems with this. Ok, there are Swabian and Franconian areas in Bavaria, which are culturally close to Württemberg. But the Bavarian identity in particular is too distinct to be merched with 'Saupreißn' like Württemberg and Baden. (Saupreißn: Bavarian term for everyone, who isn't Bavarian; literally 'sow Prussians').

    Speaking of partitions that never happened and partitions of Poland in particular, the Treaty of Radnot signed on the 6th of December 1656 divided Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth between Sweden, Transylvania, Brandenburg, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and a Lithuanian magnate Bogusław Radziwiłł (the actual signatories were only the first two would-be partitioners).

    I don’t see why he is so sad that Poland didn’t get Silesia or a lot of other German land because it to 1919 Silesia was entirely German except the south because when there was a referendum in 1919 anyone who previously live lived there could go back and the higher population would get the state but Poland ended up getting the south because that area was populated by mostly poles and I could on on about the rest Prussia territory give to Poland but this is just a RUclips comment I am making a whole paragraph about because I’m salty Poland got to much in my opinion

    • @Vitalis94
      @Vitalis94 5 лет назад +5

      Yeah, I was just making the same comment myself. Outside of Oppeln Silesia and southern East Prussia (basically those areas of East Prussia which are part of Poland today) there were no Poles in Germany, they would be giving them German majority areas. And without Stalin and forced relocations of millions of people, Poland would gain nothing but trouble.
      Hell, Germans were vocal of how pre-war Poland had too much of "native German land" inside of its borders, yet the Germans didn't make more than 2% of the entire population. Think how would they react if the Germans made a 30%...

      I think at that point it was a fact that the Soviet Union wasn't going to return back former Eastern Poland, so they had to compensate them somehow. Nobody was feeling like crying for Germany.
