The European Union decision isn't hidden, it's available to any democratic nation that was part of the European Coal and Steel Community of 1951, precursor to the modern day European Union. But this does mean that if you aren't starting off as France or one the low countries, you need to turn democratic first to unlock the decision.

What I loved about Germany is its simpler focus tree. The focus tree is the reason I played almost only Romania and Germany, the focus trees are simple to understand and it makes the game funnier
Honestly I have no idea what half the focus trees do (mainly Nordic, Baltic, and Balkan) But I just go with the ride Civil war? I deal with it Annex goal? i just do it Make myself a German Puppet? Uh, sure?
Nah, you missed the path that was in older versions but sadly has been patched, where you could do "Remilitarize the Rhineland" and "Oppose The Painter" focuses in the same playthrough, which created the most OP Germany in HOI4 history
More guides like this are exactly the kind of thing I think has been lacking for hoi4 and Victoria, great work. A similar video for the United States would also be good.

I really agree with the opening statement. While I like the new focus trees, they seem overly bloated with some of them having way too strong of bonuses or effects. If I remember correctly before the Italy update, Estonia could get more factories than Italy could from their focus tree alone which is rather absurd.
3:09 I like the fact that in HoI4 you really invade Denmark and Norway, because you can. While in history it was because British blockaded Norway, so that Germany doesn't get steel (Germany was trading steel from Sweden, and the trading path was: Sweden, Norway, Germany)
Thalmann wasn't just in prison, he was in SOLITARY CONFINEMENT. You experience hallucinations after a few hours spent in solitary, Thalmann spent 11 years...
Fun fact: You can go straight for Poland and Benelux, skipping sudets and keep the economy guy until You take the focus... which can be never. Note that guarantees for Benelux can fluctuate wildly, and that not going in against the Allies first will result in the scrutiny of Hitler's foreign policy.

Loved the video but there is another way. (I think) back in version 1.8.2 there was a bug that allowed you to do both the oppose and historical path. If you go back to that version it still exists. When you start the game you must not do any political focus, and instead justify on poland. When you declare war, start doing the oppose focus. While doing the focus (do not cancel it) click on rhimeland and you can bypass it. You then can finish oppose him like you normally would. Therefore as kaisser or democratic country you could get access to the normal tree

There is another way to play germany. You need to go civil war path then go democratic, when you are democratic go to the focus The Monarchy Compromise. When you did that get a political advisor Ernst Thälmann, flip to communism and now you are Monarcho-Communist.

Me personally, I like to build railways around my cores and building forts around and on my capitulation points, and only have one ally (preferably Romania) before I start conquering. It’s so juicy watching enemies struggle against me
Imo it's surprising how good German tree being one of the oldest. It's not complicated unlike a lot of others now, but it's pretty interesting and better than some newer ones like American.

like, 5 months ago, I was playing world conquest lite and i won ww1, keeping germany alive until 1980 until i had to go, i gave a guy germany and he created germany into a federal republic, also, austria was apart of germany, so i technically created that country in the thumbnail.
there is also an alternative way to play the european union path u showed at the end, put ur troops in the konigesberg pocket and let the french capitulate u, and then u can continue with your normal facist germany focus tree

Cursed is early justifying on France, parking your army in East Prussia, getting turned democratic via peace treaty, and continuing down the Rhineland path
Japan didn't declare war on UK, UK declared war on Japan. I think in HoI4 US first joins allies and then invites UK to join fight against Japan that was throwing tantrum and bombed pearl harbor.

There is nothing that will get rid of Wilhelm III's National Spirit if you go communist. And the best part is that you can do all of this and the cursed path at the same time, meaning Monarcho-Communist EU.
