I met Phillip a long time ago at Greg’s apartment. It was right after Bobby left and Altazane Giles was singing on the Switch album. He walked in, introduced himself, told me and my my his brother had just won the Grammy .. the sat down at Greg’s Fender Piano 🎹 and started singing a Switch song 🎶 I remember feeling his voice through my body and getting goosebumps.. this was 1981 .. I was 16 and auditioning for Switch … Greg wanted me but my mom didn’t let me .. because of the Drugs Greg honestly said they used here and there. Phillip was then and still is one of my favorite singers and he was genuinely nice

Thank you for clearing up what happened with James. He's missed! Switch was groundbreaking. I first heard them in '79. Philip is an amazing talent, but also a very smart man. His explanation about Bobby DeBarge was respectful. Philip is multi-talented/gifted (wow, he plays by ear) & still sounds good!

It would had been nice if El Debarge would had taken Bobby's place when Switch came back years later to sing There never be

Bunny DeBarge said Bobby was going to take El's place when he left the group but she wouldn't elaborate on why it didn't work.

I saw El in concert yeeeeears ago, and he did some Switch songs and sounded just like Bobby and didn’t miss a note.

El has substance abuse he couldn't take over for Bobby.

He know he aint Bobby. To him, it would maybe been disrespectful. Bobby was that great to El.

Great interview, I really enjoyed this! Phillip's lead vocals on "Without You In My Life" is one of my favorite Switch songs! Used to play it for my girl when we'd break up!

Love Bobby Debarge and Switch! Great information. Just didn't understand the question about whether or not he's been mistaken for Dominican. James Ingram was a true singer

I had no idea James Ingram's brother was in Switch😳. Good looks run in the Ingram family. James had some serious vocal talent. "Sharp E and the G Clefs"😂😂😂

Oh my goodness I loved me some James Ingram there was nothing that man could sing that did not have me shivering all over just all over there was a couple of his songs that I used to just listen to over and over again when I would play it once I would have to listen to that one particular song five or six times then I would go to my next favorite one listen to it five or six times it was just I could drive all day just listening to James Ingram I just loved him so much so much and I'm going to most definitely miss hearing any new music from him but I am so glad that I have all the things and projects that he did before God called him home God bless
