If you didn’t know, I have been documenting my latest home improvement projects through a series called That 70s House. For today’s project, I’m taking on a makeover of our neglected porch. When we moved into our home, we realized that our porch was in poor condition, but I really wanted to use it for the summer. That said, we weren't ready to undertake a complete reconstruction, so we decided to focus on improving the aesthetics for now. Our porch is long and narrow, which made the layout a bit of a challenge. My hope was that with some DIY projects and retro marketplace finds, I could turn our farmhouse-style porch into a 70s-inspired oasis.

That 70s House is getting so great.
ah thank you!!
@@TheSorryGirlsthe style, the color scheme, the thrifted finds 💯💯💯
In my opinion, the chairs you ended up with are much nicer than the ones you first tried to get! Great balcony/patio!
I thought the same think when I saw them!
Yes!
i had the exact same idea
It's so impressive how you guys just think, "I want a table," so then you build one
Becky is just a freaking genius!!! she can thrift literally anything
Not just thrift anything, but even flip it ❤
Seriously. When I saw what she had got, I couldn't envision it at all. Looks amazing. Wish I had her eye.
I love how you have redone it with thrifted items and nothing costly, to help us see we can do the same without huge renos!
Yesss! Agree ❤
Except for the thousands spent at Best Buy..
Becky! Since you said you're not ready for your full gardening era I think you should set up a wildflower area. You can set carboard on top of the area you want it to grow to kill the grass/weeds underneath. Find a wildflower mix for your specific zone or curate your own. Scatter the seeds in the fall (after removing cardboard and loosening soil or adding soil on top of cardboard) and enjoy the beauty and all the pollinators in the spring. Hope you consider it!
That’s a great idea, if you’re a gardener or not. Great for wildlife, beautiful, fun and easy!
Genius!!
Diva, we love! Just remember to seal the ends on the adjusted chairs to prevent rot.
You can wax or use an outdoor waterproofing spray (similar to scotch guard) to make the pillows safe for outdoors! ❤
Most waterproofing sprays contain PFAS tho, in my opinion a wash is good enough ☺
I’m surprised Becky didn’t put the cracked tile on the inside of the table leg to hide it, but I love the space! Everything looks so nice and came together perfectly
It was already cut shorter to accommodate the table top. So it had to go there
Or swap it with the other leg so that you can't see it as easily
there are not enough that 70s house episodes! 🤩
So many rooms in that house still to come. Just thinking about that makes me happy. :D
Becky, I feel like your style has seriously leveled up these days. Everything you do is stunning!!!
It turned out so beautiful! Love it. My only suggestion would be to turn the table leg so the cracked tile is on the inside and not visible. Other than that, chef’s kiss! Oh, one other thing… you’re right that the cane bar chairs won’t collect water on the seats, but they will mold if they’re left out in the rain and snow over winter. You may want to put them away in garage if you have one during those months.
Polyurethane works to.prevent
moisture damage.but would take multiple layers
Lovely makeover ! For the issue with the table and the stools' heights, as an alternative solution, I think I would have put the table on (lockable) wheels : you get the bar table height you originally wanted, it matches the stools’ height and it gives you the option to move the table if ever the situation would call for it ! (like a little dance party with that new speaker ? ^^) My 2 cents 😊 But great job !
Those chairs are way way better than the ones you originally wanted in my opinion. That was a blessing in disguise that the other seller ghosted you.
The whole space looks amazing. I also love how realistic the DIYing was here. DIYing doesn’t always go smoothly and we gotta pivot. Such a fun video.
Becky, your house is a dream. I love all the renovations that you've made ❤
Becky’s hair is like my dream hair! She’s so pretty and fun to watch. I love watching her videos. 💕
Love this space 😍 I think the chairs you ended up with are even nicer than the original ones you were ghosted over. They were probably haunted anyway 😏
Great makeover! I suggest getting waterproof covers for the chairs and a deck box for storing the covers. It easier to whisk off the covers (and tuck them into a box) than hauling pillows in and out, and your wood chairs will be protected as well.
I usually hate outdoor makeovers bacause people always go for the same modern profile and a lot of that gray-brown wood or black metal, but yours is 100% perfect
If Danny doesn’t make an appearance, I’m going to riot
dont worry (22:12)
But does that REALLY count?!?!
I appreciate that you didn’t opt to add a patio sofa. You kept it personal and I love the colors you used. ❤
The '80s metal band' hair is DEFINITELY a good thing 🤩🤩
It looks very nice and inviting. You don't even notice the flooring hardly at all with the other perfect elements, the carpeting, furniture, it all works so well together. I do like the color pallet, nicely done!
Big hair with a vintage tee is the BEST THING EVER!!!!!!
I feel like making a small tall brick stand for the pizza oven at the end of the table would bring together the "pizza oven" vibe and it would clear up table space
Girlll you should make a table runner out of the pillow cases… and add like weights that clip on it the ends or something. That would be mega cute
best patio make over so far imo! love it. adore the brown neutral theme it is so good.
Can you afford an outdoor carpet remnant? A remnant would be so much cheaper of course, and really clean up the look under your jute rugs :)
That viiiibe though 🤌✨ I tend to favor Becky’s style of all TSG but this one really knocked it out of the park. You found some great secondhand pieces to bring the space to life!
Can't wait for Becky to tackle the bigger projects in that 70s House. Loved everything! 😍
I love Becky’s videos bc brown is just not my palette personally but over the years I love seeing how she makes it look so good every time!
Why don't you turn the leg around so you won't see the cracked tiles
The way that railing post squeezed like a sound effect added in post actually cracked me up
I'm not sure why, but this is one of your better edited videos. It was crisp, clear, and extremely informative. You looked great and were on your game in this one. I've been in the process of redecorating a few rooms in my home and your struggles were relatable. I feel like I learned something and you made it fun. (Also I'm a musician and the guitars in the background...yes!!!)
Love it! You can use waterproofing spray on pillows. And perhaps a small weatherproof storage box over by bugzapper to put things in during inclement weather. Love the lounge chairs!
Now that's Smart 🧐 Advice
It’s funny, growing up I loved the Brady bunch and from season to season some parts of their house would randomly be changed without them acknowledging it or anything, lol it’s like the same with Becky’s house, her dining nook is completely different now ( looks great btw! )
Holy crap, Becky! This turned out so great! I also think the chairs you got look way more comfortable and fits your space better than the ones you first wanted!
Oh I loveeeee it. I feel like I would've had to do something different with the flooring though. The rugs look great but knowing the truth about whats under them would drive me crazy!!! Beautiful job on the table and oh BOY those lounge chairs were SUCH a great find!!!
Becky, you just have the most gorgeous hair. My straight, flat hair is so jealous.
Fun makeover as usual! Love that ice bucket!
The very Bohemian comfy space we all crave. Nice job. I actually really love those ambient bar lights
the patio looks very beautiful and cozy, can only imagine how much better its gonna look when fully redone
but please, Becky, don't forget to put these plants in the house during the cold seasons🙏🏼
Girl you killed it! It looks even better than I thought it would turn out.
So beautiful!!!! If I didn't know you, and been watching you for years and years if I was a newbie to you.. I would have said this woman doesn't know what she's doing LOL. You more than pulled it all together at the end!
I think the chairs you ended up with were a winner! And love your natural hair 😍 Your thrift stores in Canada are so much better than ours in Australia!
It's stunning and looks so cozy
love austin taking part and making his little cameos! 🤪
I hope you tightened up all the loose railing slats and crowns. Danny might think it is his throwing stick (missed him in this vid). I had a upper floor balcony in CO USA and that was a yearly chore, due to all the cold, wet and snow. It looked like moss was growing on the existing carpet. It might need a power wash and fungicide spray. The lighting is wonderful, but I am afraid I would trip over it. The bar stools might need a cap on the boot of each leg to save it from weather rot. I had wood bar stools in a damp environment that only lasted a year, because the legs got wet rot and dry rot. Thankfully, they were thrifted items, but it was still a loss. The outcome is lovely. Thanks for the info on Best Buy. I have only purchased electronics there. I liked the half umbrella and the zig zag plant a lot.
I think it turned out super well! Personally I would have put an outdoor couch/sectional kinda thing because I love lying down lol. My balcony only has space for two chairs and a tiny table, but if I had a long space like this one, that's what I would do.
I know I`ve said it before, but you never cease to amaze me! The balcony looks so beautiful and you`ve coordinated everything so well! The house is becoming a show place; but a comfy liveable one! Isn`t it funny how you watch some makeovers and, they look beautiful; but you can`t picture anyone living a comfortable, joyous life in them? Yours are always awesome and I`d be so happy to live in your spaces.
I would’ve power washed the old carpet, but other than that, I love everything about this space!
The space looks amazing. The carpet out there could be power washed with soap & it would probably come up very nice. Once it's dry you could even paint it.
I’m so here for Becky’s make overs! Never get enough of her content 🙌🏾🤩 the has the best makeovers and the best style 💯
TFW you realize that the DIYer you follow may know way more about decorating, cutting, sawing, finishing and building items, but your many more years in the world means you know exactly how those cute barstools will look after being left outside for a couple of months.
That said, the porch looks really great and I couldn’t have put something like that together. I love Becky’s style!
Designers eat your heart out. I love your deck !!!!
Becky!! You and Austen are the best! You two are bright lights & bring me such joy! Another incredible makeover. Legit!
One thing it's missing is some patio lights around the railing! Would add more light and coziness(:
Becky it looks great. I hope you guy's enjoy it.
Hi Becky, I love the balcony vibes. Here is an idea for the pillow cases. Cut the seams open on one and make a table runner, and the other you can cut to make table napkins.
Happy dining,
Sheila
Love how it turned out- whenever I get thrifted pillows I spray them with white vinegar to kill germs and then Scotchguard to help water-proof them. I can see lots of fun out-door times in your future !!!
With so many things falling, impossible and not working, how on Earth do you stay so positive?!! I'd be screaming, swearing, crying and would have given up. Magic the way it turned out.
Holy cow, that was a stunning make over.🎉 Thank you for keeping in the things that go imperfectly, it keeps me from losing hope when I DIY and all the problems crop up. Enjoy your gorgeous deck!
Love the result 🧡 The only thing that I (or my OCD) would change would be turning that leg table with the cracked tile to inside so no one could see it 😅 Besides that, perfect! Always love Becky’s video 😘
I can't stop looking it! I need to know that's been rotated 😂
It looks so good, Becky!!! Your thrift scores were perfect for your style. 🤎
Love, love, love!!! All you need is a cute little table between the 2 chairs to set your drinks! Love the vibe.
Becky, you find the best items while thrifting. The balcony area looks great!
Honestly I love those chairs more ❤❤
looks great, I would flip the layout since it’s so narrow so the table is more accessible when carrying food out. That also pushes the lounge to the more private corner but of course whatever works for you guys! PS as someone who bought an abandoned home, get that home renovation done before you start your gardening era-I took 5 years to renovate and now I’m in year 4 on the garden. there’s only so much energy, time and money!
It's just what u said u needed. A place to eat and chill on those nice summer days and nights that can handle your weather with ease. I wish i had the visions you do!!
You just need flexible tile adhesive to tile onto wood. You can tile kitchen kickplates like that too (best waterproof option).
Love the colors and beautiful vibe you created. So lovely and inviting. Was not surprised y’all got such talent.
Loving the development of the space you have created out there! It’s looking sharp!! Sidebar *** I have one of those half umbrellas that has led lighting integrated into the ribs and runs on solar panels that are mounted on the post at the top of the umbrella. Conveniently someone has invented a teeny tiny end table that has an umbrella hole and it hides the base.
Idk, I like the crack on the outside. Gives it character. Great job Becky I LOVE IT 😍
Love love love that those other chairs didn’t work out because the other ones are perfect! Also love your natural hair!!!
You’re results are always so good! This balcony is 😍
Becky, I love what you're doing with your house!❤❤❤ It looks marvelous!
Girl, you are so 70's, my first born son is REALLY like 2 yrs old!!!! Again!!!! (b. In 1974...)
This episode reminds me of ALL the times my mom "trimmed" my bangs when I was tiny...cut a little. Trim a little more. Oop, gotta cut that side off to match the other side.
..
I used to end up w 1/2" long "bangs".
LOVE!! Only thing I would do differently would be to hide the Philips Hue lights behind a small pony wall or plant box etc. I think that would look really nice. Otherwise great job!
I’m really loving this 70’s house reno. So far every room done is beautiful. Can’t wait for the next one ✊🏾
I’ve had and currently have the same type of long and narrow deck. I think your design is perfect and now know what I need to do for my space. I love your thrifted finds, the diy’s and new items. They all work so well together. Great job!!!
Your Deck transformation looks “sick” 🫶🏻 Loving it all! That Fish-bone plant might just be my next plant 🪴👍🏻🩷🐨🌺
LOVE the color palette!!! Looks really cozy and inviting! this may be one of my favorite makeovers
Absolutely love this makeover! The space looks so cozy and inviting now, especially with the lighting Becky chose.
The makeover looks great! Locking deck tiles would be good.
The colour pallet is chef’s kiss
If you want the throw pillows to be weatherproof, there's a waterproofing spray that is probably available at a hardware or craft store. I've also seen it at the Sketchers store for waterproofing shoes
I thought this sounded so cool at first as well but I think it's pure PFAS... Not a healthy chemical :(
So good! What a dreamy space.
I like it! The only thing I would include is lights in the umbrella.
So chic and cozy. Love it.
I will never get over how cute Danny (the dog) is in the intro 😭🥺
Such a transformation! ❤ I love the way you've utilised the awkward space to create cosy zones which make so much sense and the use of second hand pieces which dont compromise in any way, I am addicted to this series 😍
That's really nice :)) love the layout. I would include a daybed for me and a petbed so me and my pet can enjoy the sun and maybe take a nap lol. Ooooo maybe a hammock? Forgot to say I love the color scheme! And all the plants. I hope they thrive in that space
I would have done basically the same layout but on the end with the dining table I would have put raised bed boxes for more veggies because I think they would fit and give a bit more space for growing
I love how it turned out. What a wonderful place to spend time outside. Enjoy!
Perfect! You will love the pizza oven! Very inspiring! ry Thank you! Rhonda
It looks sooo good! So impressed by how you pull things together
Those chairs look way more comfortable than the first ones!
Love the aesthetic of your home. Love watching your videos. You and Austin and very chill.
I love this series bc I get to see Danny in every intro!!
Looks AMAZING! I still want string lights and the bar lights! Like colored bar and warm fairy lights!😂
I LOVE your natural big wavy hair!! Definitely wear it like that more often (when it's practical!)
