This summer has been HOT so we went thrift shopping online with thredUP to try to recreate some of our favourite outfits we saw on Pinterest! This wouldn't be a summer thrift haul without a little DIY though, so we upcycled these finds into the perfect Pinterest dupes. Whether it's a light linen pant, a trendy padded muscle tee DIY (including legit shoulder pads) or a comfy lounge wear set, these looks really came together as great additions to our second hand summer wardrobes. What do you usually pay for duty fees?
Don't shop at thredUP. I've had nothing but problems with the site and with the sizing. I've had to return 80% of what I buy because they don't fit. Even using the measurements don't work. Not to mention, I don't have access to my account when I call it up on google. I have to order something to get access. Small but frustrating.
hi y'all! friendly neighborhood madewell employee here! just want to note that thredup greatly overestimates the prices of these items! the white tee becky got is actually only $16, so in the end she over paid for it.

I noticed that too. There is no way an old navy dress is $40! I haven’t been to old navy in a while but there is just no way. You’re getting way better deals just going to the clearance section of those stores or even going to somewhere like TJ maxx. The whole reason I go thrifting is to get a steep discount because the clothes are used. I’m not paying over $10 for used clothes 🤷🏻♀️
@@NatJediMASTER I own several shirt dresses from Old Navy and when they are not on sale they are generally $44.99-49.99 Canadian so I wasn't surprised by the price at all. But still you're right for the fact that anything pre-used should be way cheaper!
The sweat set did not have the same vibe at all. Everything else you pretty much nailed. Love thred up!
They both needed to be really oversized before cropping
They probably figured that out when they recieved the thrifted item but it was too late to do anything so they still went ahead... Wish they could have just thrifted again and do it right though
I agree. Apart from being oversized, the top was also worn in a cropped style, not pulled down.
And the shoulder pads of the “muscleT” were far to big. They made the whole neck area stand up. Not flattering at all.
The shorts gave me mid-2000 vibes 🙈😂

That's what I hate about linen! Even when you do press your clothes, it doesn't last. When I do wear linen, it has to be something so casual that the rumpled look works.

Steam doesn’t do anything to linen, even if you try to iron out the creases it doesn’t always work. Linen is the devil.

That’s thred ups whole thing - they just sell other peoples used clothes for just under retail prices. Plus most of the stuff is outdated, like those AE sweat shorts. They probably underpriced the vince camuto pants, tbf.
Loved everything but the sweat set. It definitely did not match the oversized vibe of the original.

This is one of the first ThredUp vidoes of anyone on RUclips that I actually really enjoyed watching! There is a specific foot for the sewing machine that rolls the hem and sews in one step ! That might safe you a lot of time with your sewing diys ☺️☺️
Okay, all of the comments are saying you should've ironed/steamed the clothes, maybe I'm strange, but most of the outfits didn't need it, and especially the linen pants that Kelsey wore that I'm sure people were talking about, that's the style you get when you have linen, It's a bit wrinkled and worn in, and that's what I love about it!
The wrinkles in Becky's first outfit were throwing me off. Made the look feel less achieved, imo. Next time iron/steam before. Especially steaming only takes like 2 mins max with a handsteamer which a super cheap.

Becky, if you had a wide sash with those white trousers, you could sow it to the pants and make them look more high rise than they are and you could remove the belt loops. Plus, it would match the original look which has kind of a sash.

Thred up isn’t really worth it btw. A lot of their stuff is only discounted slightly from the original price so it’s like why bother. 🤷🏼♀️ Dont get me wrong, some stuff is discounted well, but MOST isn’t to the point where I deleted the app a minute after looking at everything.

Becky comments - I LOVED the styling of that 2nd outfit and had to rewind and rewatch it. The first one I wasn't as much of a fan of. I also think that the last outfit Becky's version looked much better than the inspo pic. That clutch was amazing (2nd outfit). The top from the last outfit looked very comfy and I was thinking hmmmmm I want one of those. I laughed about the shoulder pads because I remember in the late 80s / early 90s they were in ALL department store clothes (I actually had a phase where I wore plaid skirts, a turtleneck, and a blazer to high school and I went to public school!) and I remember having to sometimes cut them out, especially if you wanted to layer and BOTH shirts had shoulder pads. OMG, could never believe they would not only come back in style but people would buy shoulder pads at a fabric store to add to things. HAHAHA fashion is so crazy. When I think of some of the things I wore back then in jr. high / high school OMG I'm glad there weren't cell phone cameras back then with tons of pics of how awkward I was.

I would like bigger sizes too. I like to wear merch tees as night shirts so I like to be able to get sizes that fit me like a dress. I could probably wear their larger sizes but it would be tighter than I like plus I would never wear the tiny words over my large breasts. Not in public anyway. That would be like inviting people to check out my breasts.
