Welcome back to Upgrade My Stay, a show where we tackle vacation rental spaces that need a little Sorry Girls love and a whole lot of decor and DIYs. Today we got handed this super old garage space that was holding unused storage. The space this is connected to is a rental space that would totally benefit from an area to enjoy time relaxing and having fun with friends. Watch as we upgrade this garage into a dive bar inspired retro game space. This has to be one of our coolest transformations yet!

If I remember it right they did a lottt of effort to apply for creator grants to make this series happen. They got some money and were able to hire a crew! (just for this series)

I always feel like there is some tension between them. I may be imagining it, but they seem to be annoyed with each other when working together. Especially Becky.

@Martina D'Angiò I rewatched it and I get what you are saying. They are used to just being themselves in front of the camera at home and the office. Maybe this is way more of a production and they are doing "scenes" with at least 4 people staring at them. Maybe they are just feeling awkward and they aren't the best actors. They are used to recording their videos in a completely different way. I bet you that has got to be it!
@@NatTayHill of course you’re gonna get a little peeved being around your best friend and business partner all day but to say there is a tension is a bit much. They love each other and just like being around your sister 24/7 you’re gonna get a little annoyed with them especially while doing manual labor in the heat.

I think it is made of old bedsprings and they put the wine bottlers in between. Amazing 😍
@@boatwidow2002 it looked so cool! I started thinking and I think if you put two "sheets" of matress springs and glue the wine bottles to the springs. Then build a 2 x 4 frame around? I dont think it is to hard but probably takes some figuring out. Old wine bottels you can probably ask for in resturants :)
They also make a fine bottle of Pinot noir… just saying! 😉

I think they are just two friends who can say what they like to each other without offending because they know each other well.
I agree I think they're two really close friends who can have banta and be silly together. I also think working together 24/7 would have some struggles especially like on a hot day like this, but they seem fine to me!!
Lastly, I think the comments that seem to pop up from time to time either speculating on their friendship, pitting them against each other, or comparing them are just gross and unnecessary, and I wish they would stop!! Let Kelsey and Becky live and let's stop commenting on their friendship when we only see snippets of their entire day.

Yes!!! They actually do what the client wants or what the space calls for instead of just doing the same thing regardless because that's what they like
Well, the thing about being a designer is that we tend to have our fortes. I’m an architect and my designs are usually vernacular meets tropical meets industrial. On the other hand, some designers are much more flexible and can cater to a wider audience.
With that said, clients will look for designers who align with their own preferences. Some people might really like boho chic so they’ll reach out to someone who’s really good at boho chic. So on and so forth.
Design is not a one size fits all type of thing so to compare TSG with other RUclipsrs might be a little too much. Let’s just appreciate that designers here on YT are sharing with us their projects.

The stark difference in outfit practicality between Kelsey and Becky makes me laugh so hard. Fringe crochet top, bomber jacket, and flared jeans; shorts and tank top. Crochet flared pants, fringe vest, and snake print boots with heels; bike shorts, tank top, and Docs.
I seriously live for Becky's outfits. She inspires me. I am looking for a crochet halter top pattern for my wardrobe.
Kelsey is usually dressed to get down to business and I'm always worried about Becky ruining her amazing outfits.

As someone that did this while sober as a kid, I agree. We are lucky my sister didn't lose an eye.
They're some of the least practical "designers" I've ever seen. They often have no idea what they're doing and don't think through the actual usability of their choices.
I disagree! There've been lots of mistakes but so many other times where I've been impressed by their thought process, most recent being the high gloss cabinets for wiping high touch areas
They put them over tables in some bars. I think you’re over thinking things.
using high gloss for easily clean is nothing
new. Every Home Depot paint department recommends it. Nevertheless I do believe they have many fresh designs that are practical but also many that miss the mark like this dart board placement.

I never want this series to end. This new season is so amazing, and unlike other renovation shows this one feels so fun and all the designs can be actually replicated by normal folks.
The editors are also on fire, like the 40 minutes disappeared in a heartbeat it was so well done.

Right! I love this so much. I actually have little dinos tucked in to plants and random places at my house. They were my son's when he was little and as he out grew them I claimed them to guard my plants and books 🤣

I loved this. the concept of the video, what they did, how they did it, how it turned out. This was awesome. My only struggle with the video was it seamed like Becky was annoyed/ irritated and trying to cover it with Kelsey the whole time. not just the shower curtain, just everything she did and said..obviously I know they've worked together for a long time and I don't know them at all personally but watching the videos of them separately vs together, Becky is completely different. it made a lot of the video awkward and uncomfortable to watch. maybe Its just me but I've noticed it before and especially here and figured id see if anyone else did too

I’d love for you guys to start adding closed captions to your videos! I’ve seen a few comments about it on other videos already. Not all devices have the automatic subtitles, and they’re not always good. With you guys becoming bigger and bigger and having a larger team, I really think you should invest time into it. And maybe doing it for older videos too!

My fave upgrade my stay yet. I love that Kelsey and Becky are open to trying new styles and doing things they've never tried before. This is so cute and playful but also thoughtfully put together. Would love to chill there!
The vibe reminded me of the basement in "That 70's Show", but amped up.
On its own, I loved the quirky, vintage, dive-y feel of the garage bar/game room. But I sensed the owners weren't that thrilled with it. I think considering the look and vibe of their rental and the fact that it's a vineyard setting, they were probably wanting/expecting something more like elegant farmhouse vibes and something a bit more mature. That said, they really can't blame the girls, esp. if they know anything about their style and also giving them free reign to do what they wanted. I thought it was cute and fun.

I don’t think she wanted it painted. She was just amazed at how bright it looked without paint. And she loved the final decor and just said “I thought you were just going to paint it white .And she was thrilled that they did so much more!

this is one of my favorite flips! having more of a vintage/maximalist style i absolutely love how you guys pulled this off. it only hurt a little to see the record player painted but it was all perfect. and was so happy to see the shower curtain! i love it!

I’ve been a sub for YEARS and this is hands down my favorite space ya’ll have ever done. The aesthetic is fully captured!! It literally looks like some space youd see in a show or movie as THE hangout spot. I would love to hang in this space!! Definitely going to have to pull from this one day. This has to be my favorite makeover yet. So fun and nostalgic. Perfectly imperfect. If I had walked into that space knowing nothing about how it had come to be, I'd assume it was the love child of decades of collecting and happy times.

OTOH, they're making an entertainment episode for an international audience (not all viewers are involved in this particular Canadian issue) + they're not even 30 yet (it's a complex issue, on which experts, activists and policy makers disagree - how could K+B as ordinary citizens solve it beyond the donation they chose to make & the tiny bit of awareness they included?)

@@emmawakley5487 This actually aligns directly with recommended land acknowledgement practices. Short and sweet to ensure they are thought about, without having to take too much time. This makes it easier for everyone to actually use them regularly.
That shower curtain was a hard no but overall the makeover looks great
I’m not sure she got the full quirky concept but he did and I think it’s SO GOOD. Same with the foil horn. The headband is the JOKE . Love it 😂
This is literally so much like the dive bar in my home town. They did such a good job sourcing all these vintage items. It truly looks like it was put together over many years.
Great job ladies! You got it right. The one observation I have is that there always seems to be one thing that gets lost in the rush of final touches...dusting. The milk carts could have been utilized a bit better ( as drink holders and such) if they had been hung with the opening outwards so the top surface is usable space. Loved it!
Kelsey and Becky have their different senses of humour and I’m here for it the both of them are so freaking funny
I dont know why but this series brings out some odd tension between them🤷🏽♀️ I could be completely wrong but since the editing is so different than their other things it showcases it in a new light. Either way their talent is unmatched! So good

If this was reality tv it would be over dramatised. I think they're fine, sometimes you don't agree on everything and sometimes your best friend can get on your nerves when you're not in the same mood.

I think it might be the editing, those parts are always very quiet and way too long. It’s also a stark contrast to the upbeat music and time lapse sequences. But you’re not alone, I find it very awkward to watch at times.
Reno projects always bring out strain; it's really rare for people to completely agree or find a perfect compromise.
With my parents, there's an unspoken agreement that if one of them is doing home repairs, the other finds something they conveniently forgot to do that means that can't be around. My mom is slow and go-with-the-flow while also needing to check everything is right a thousand times over. My dad is much more "let's get it done" and can be both precise and speedy. The few times they've forgone the agreement usually winds up with heaps of tension.
My brother and his wife are similar; he does the technical and handiwork, she decorates and designs. The only shared work is for stuff that, ultimately, doesn't matter. They reached this agreement less than two months into their full-house reno, after several arguments and a lot of tension between them.
The way that Kelsey divided 165 by two literally blew my mind... that's such a smart way to do it! American public school math makes it more complicated.

THIS HAS BEEN MY FAV SO FARrrrr! I was really hoping they’d take on the whole western vibe of the empty shell but they OBVIOUSLY went above and beyond what I could’ve imagined.
It really is a fun space for an Airbnb cause people will go in and find all the quirky and random pieces all over. Of course a home owner could enjoy it to but I just see it constantly being a fun adventure for guests coming in out out. I love how much fun Kelsey had in making it a real dive bar experience. (Shower curtain aside lol)
Omg the shower curtain was PERFECT. The entire point was to make it a kitschy games room, not a "designed space"... It was exactly what was needed to pull in that element so the space didn't LOOK the part... it WAS the actual space. Kelsey had this nailed. Right down to the conspiracorn. Because she's just that tiny bit crazier than Becky. Normally I'm Team Becky when there is a ? but in this case Kelsey was in her element: all the fun things.

Totally disagree. It makes the golf area look purposeful. You can see a clear defined area that is just for golf and same with the dart board. Having both in the same area seemed super cluttered
It already has different type of walls there, the shower curtain just makes it mix different type too much
Yeah it was totally out of place. Plus to put it up she moved the dartboard to the other wall, where you can't get enough distance from it to actually play 🙄
