    Many people have asked me how to go about making an art book. Where should I get it printed? How do I find templates? How do I set up my files for print? How many copies should I have made? Should I make an ebook? I wanted to answer as many of these questions as possible. The video ended up being a bit longer than I'd expected, but there's a lot of useful information in here for those considering making some kind of art book.
    Games I've worked on:

    CannonBallers (Mobile)
    Overwatch (PC, PS4)
    League of Legends (PC)
    Diablo 3 (PC,PS4)
    Hearthstone (Mobile, PC)
    Burning Crusade (PC)
    Wrath of the Lich King (PC)
    Final Fight Streetwise (PS2)
    He Man (GBA)
    Terminator 3 (GBA)

    Always appreciate any video from you. But how do you cook a steak? :)

    • @TrentKaniuga
      @TrentKaniuga  6 лет назад +15

      Use a sous vide to lightly cook it throughout. Make sure that you seal in the flavor by searing the outside in a 400-500 degree skillet with olive oil and thyme.

    Hey Trent, this video was extremely helpful. I appreciate you giving incite into your process, press can be headache at times when you don't know what you're doing. I was wondering how you made the thumbnails for each of your pages? Do you just take a screenshot, make a PDF, or use the actual PSD file? Thanks!

    Twilight Monk is also on ComiXology. Could you one day talk about what that process to getting your book on that?

    • @TrentKaniuga
      @TrentKaniuga  6 лет назад +3

      They have a thing called "comixology submit". They tell you the format, and you upload to their submission guidelines. Pretty much the same process.

    Can a template like this work for inDesign? Thanks for the tips :)

  • @LarsLeonhard

    If you have to create a book, heavily illustrated, both for a physical
    hardcover edition as well as a digital version (pdf) with tons of
    images, is it better to design the pdf or the physical edition in
    InDesign first? And why?
    (this is something I have pondered on for a while)

    Trent, I bought your Twilight Monk digital artbook in Gumroad, do I have to buy another copy, if it gets updated? Thanks and love your art pieces.

    • @TrentKaniuga
      @TrentKaniuga  6 лет назад +2

      You will not have to rebuy it. All future updates are included free of charge.

    What down trent. Any info on getting t shirts made to resale of my art of someone else's character? Or is the copyright/ trademark issues to complicated?

    • @TrentKaniuga
      @TrentKaniuga  6 лет назад

      It's not complicated. You can't sell what you don't own. You can do it, but if you get caught you could be legally liable for damages and copyright infringement, which is in fact... a pretty big deal. How would you feel about it if someone used your characters or art to make money? I recommend against it.

      Look up Danny Mac, Joseph Drust, and Michael Pavlovich for thorough zbrush tutorials. Pixologic also hosts livestream sessions with all kinds of artists. These are the most educationally valuable, but require a lot of patience to get through and sift out the gold nuggets. As for Blender, Blender Guru and cgcookie have heaps of genuinely useful tutorials.

    What is your IQ? Also does generating a Hearthstone card art (at least in the budget they use now) require a high iq? Do the thoughts have to running around all the time when generating a card art?

    • @TrentKaniuga
      @TrentKaniuga  6 лет назад

      Hm. I suppose my IQ is pretty average. I'm not sure I understand the question. But I think that several artists make a living creating artwork for trading cards, and they are financially stable. It's a viable career.

      I do them simultaneously. Indesign exports the pdf and the print ready file.

      @@TrentKaniuga Sorry to be dumb, but you have to have two separate files, yes? Because of the bleed and spine and all?
