The Evolution of Hyper Coaster - Featuring WNY Coasters

- Hypercoasters are some of the most beloved out there but they've not always looked the way they do. The modern-day hypers are almost unrecognizable from the ones built back in the 90s and even the 2000's. So today WNY Coasters and I look at the evolution of hyper coasters...

thank you mr coastoons!
How old is your sister
Hey coastoons you should make a vid on the gerstlauer going to glen wood that was believed to go to cp
Speaking of Morgan, you forgot Superman Último Escape, which is quite amazing from what I've heard.
That WNY guy seems pretty cool…
In all seriousness, really fun working with you man!
Anyone else love the little drawings of the coaster that he does, like of Steel Curtain at 0:17?
I wish you could have talked about some of Japan's influence on hyper coasters. Moonsault Scramble was the first roller coaster to cross the 200 foot mark. Bandit was the direct inspiration for Magnum. And Fujiyama joined Wild Thing in being the first non-Arrow hyper coaster, and was the world's tallest complete circuit coaster until Magic Mountain's Goliath.
I don’t think he does that much reasearch I’ll be honest
You guys missed the 4d coasters of X and thier kind, you also missed Togo, Giovanola, Gerstleaur, and the in park team of Lagoon as Hyper Coaster manufacturers.
Kinda random, but I love smaller youtubers cause they are more raw, and truthful cause smaller youtubers can do anything without any backlash. Also there's not as many sponsors compared to bigger RUclipsrs.
its amazing to see coastoons growing this fast, i remember subbing to him just about a month ago when he was at 7-8k now hes at 18k
Been here since under 1k from the what will top Steve video
*sobs* He's growing up so fast! :`)
Not the collab we deserved, but the one we needed.
i watch these as somebody who knows nothing about roller coasters, and has no clue what you’re talking about, but i still watch them and enjoy them lmao
Yo this is the most underrated channel on RUclips

For those of you who are unfamiliar of what a block zone is, a block zone is a section of track that only one train may occupy, block zones are commonly placed at a higher portion of a ride to reduce stress of the brakes, this is the system that prevents trains from colliding
Sonic 2 music in the background. Why are you doing this to me??? Your background music is fantastic dude. El-P, Aesop Rock and now one of the best video games I grew up with. I’m now fully paying attention to the music in the background every time I watch one of your videos
Watching the portion of the video about Morgan, and I have to say I think their Hypercoasters are over-hated. I got to ride Steel Force earlier this summer and it was actually a lot of fun. It wasn’t the best Hypercoaster, of course, but it is worth checking out if you’re ever in the area. Just sit in row 3 for the best airtime at the end.
Thanks for the info I’m going to Dorney Park next week and I can’t wait to ride it! Also wait, that’s the magic seat.
Row 3 shocked me when I rode it last week. I had ridden Steel Force several times in the past, but my one ride in the Magnum-magic-seat-equivalent was far and away the best ride I have ever had on it.
Agreed. For a lot of people growing up, a Morgan hyper was the only hyper they knew about and though it might not be as extreme or forceful as other rollercoasters, you're still being dropped 200+ feet, going 75 mph in a tiny train suspended in the air with the wind blowing against you. If people dont think that sounds like fun, perhaps they're jaded.
I also missed Superman El Ultimo Escape from the Morgan section of the video. Its very unkown, but Ive heard that its legendary, on the same level or on a higher level than magnum from what Ive heard. ETR even ranks that boy over Phantom's Revenge iirc.
Tons of enthusiasts love Morgans, I rarely ever hear hate about them tbh. They're just less embraced than the other manufacturers because there are fewer and they tend to be at smaller or less visited parks.
Coastoons: all of Morgan’s hypers sucked except steel eel and phantoms revenge.
Superman el ultimo escape: am I a joke to you
This is the best youtuber collab to exist!
everyone forgets about the best morgan coaster: superman el ultimo escape. that ride is unironically fantastic
Raging Bull opened the same year as Apollo's chariot and if it isn't a thing, B&M hypers might not be what they are today. It's also a good ride.
it’s the best hyper imo
In the morgan section, i thin you forgot about Superman el Ultimo Escape. its a great hyper coaster and one of Morgans best
This was amazing! Two of my favorite youtubers Collab, let's gooooo!!!!!!
I love when this man blesses my morning with a video before work!!🙌💯
You shouldn't judge the Morgan's until you ride them. Remember that the Morgan hypers are older than the B&Ms and the Intamins you are comparing them to and Morgan/chance hasn't had the opportunity to extensively create new hypers as a response to one up these b&m and Intamin offerings. The phantoms revenge and lightning run have shown that chance / Morgan is capable of creating some very amazing airtime machine coasters that some prefer over some b&m and Intamin models. I hope Chance rides has the opportunity to build a new full size hyper in the US to showcase the lessons learned and the talent they have gained since the coasters they made 25 years ago.
I rode Steel Force recently, it's probably the best of the 3 big Morgan hypers because the midcourse doesn't hit as hard as the others, plus the helix is pretty forceful, I greyed out a little bit during it!
I just went to Cedar Point yesterday! Got some Magnum XL-200 rides, one at night, and the airtime is so good!
Highly underrated ride among enthusiasts. It's one of my favorites due to its character and insane airtime. I hope CP never removes Magnum because there will NEVER be another roller coaster like it ever again
Hey, you forget Superman el Último Escape from Six Flags Mexico on the Morgan’s .
New video idea… ✨The Power of airtime✨
Morgan also built a hypercoaster-like coaster at SeaWorld San Antonio, Steel Eel, but that was only 150 feet.
You also forgot about Giovanolla and their hypers (Titan and Goliath, both of them are clones of each other)
Bro, I started watching in like October of last year. You're already at 18k! Time just flew by. Wow
OK but you missed Morgan’s Superman ride at Six Flags Mexico, which is legitimately one of the best hypers.
September can not come soon enough. I want to see that Cedar Point review.
I have watched every single one of your videos i fkinggg lovee your channel
Your like the Casually Explained of the coaster world.
Nice to see this in my feed.
I've just been on my first hypercoaster, Candymonium.
It’s a crime to be less than an hour early to these videos
2 of my favorite coaster youtubers collab!!!
I’m upset that I will never be able to ride every B&M hyper because of the SBNO at hot go dreamland. It and the accompanying B&M wing coaster were built 6 years ago and no progress has been made in the park its never opening. We can only hope those 2 rides are sold to another park. The hyper looks like it actually has a solid layout.
3:27 Wild THING man
The only hyper I’ve ridden is the big one at Blackpool and that thing the drop is insane if your at the back you get whipped down that drop but after that it’s just floater not really any ejector but there is some really cool interaction with the other rides and the park with the coaster weaving through some of the wooden coasters
When Blackpool pleasure beach was mentioned i almost spat out my drink, i wasn’t expecting it to be mentioned in here 💀✋
Bet you Coastoons has over 40,000 subs by the end of the year
I would have to more than double my subs so probably naw
I hope Intamin does more stuff like Hyperion in the States. It looks like the Skyrush idea fully realized.
That an flying aces
When I got off of Steel Eel the first thing out of my mouth was "It's an airtime machine". It's pretty great.
I remember riding Magnum XL 200 in 1989. The first drop was so huge. It was the biggest in the world at the time.
The Big One is quite rough (though nothing on Grand National) but has been retracked in a couple of places.
2:45 Titan MAX at Space World: Am I a joke to you?!
We needed this colab with my Fellow WNY boi (also from upstate ny)
It's worth noting that, before Magnum, "Bandit" in Japan was the first to execute the traditional Hypercoaster "style," where instead of inversions, the coaster focused on speed and airtime. While Magnum was the first proper full-circuit hyper, credit goes to Bandit for inspiring it.
A 200+ dive coaster is a specific kind of hyper
It's still, ultimately, a hyper coaster.
The pause at the top doesn't fundamentally change what it is.
It's got a lift hill
It's full circuit.
Which is why Valravn's records aren't really any real kind of record because they artificially "created" a "new" coaster
I like to put hyper coasters in two subclasses: conventional hypers and unconventional hypers. Conventional hypers are the hypers that fit the criteria you listed at the beginning of the video, while unconventional hypers are the coasters that don’t fit the criteria except height (such as the Hyper Dives, Xcellerator, Hyper Hybrids, etc)
Would you say that Steel Phantom (when it had inversions) is unconventional?
@@markvolpe2305 tbh, yeah.
@@markvolpe2305 Phantoms revenge is a conventional hyper though (even with its unique layout)
Man I love Steel Force. Am I alone??
Steel eel was FIRE
Wild Thing at Valleyfair is actually pretty good for what it is. The second hill gives about 5-6 seconds of floater air, which is similar in force and duration to Millennium Force's first airtime hill. Just press up with your legs right as the positives start fading and you'll float for ages. The rest of the ride is a little boring but the bunny hops give some good ejector pops. I remember going on Steel Eel when I was younger and that it was a blast.
Can you do a video on Maxx Force at Six Flags Great America? because imo i feel like Great America has some pretty good coasters.
You said desperado and didn’t add the woah that was close meme kinda disappointing, anyways great video
Wild thing not wild one!!!!
Unrelated but about to go to knoebels for the first time. Wish me luck
I don't know if you were mentioning just the US B&M hypers, but since you mentioned GeForce and Goliath afterwards, I wanna tell you you missed Silver Star at Europapark.
It's actually the fourth B&M hyper, opened in 2002
1:56 so like Moonsault Scramble, the actual first hyper?
2:27 “BLLlLllLlLllllllaaaaAaaAckpool pleasure beach”
Soooooo I guess it’s in the next video but where are my home parks CANDYMONIUM AND SKYRUSH????
you forgot to mention that intamin where also the fiest to make hypers without tanget radious
3:18 mamba is not bad and btw the reason it is slow is because of a midcourse brakerun
do a park review of canadas wonderland :D
He is with 2 Creators I love.
Hey now.....Wild Thing*** at ValleyFair is a good ride. Just because it doesn't throw you out of your seat doesn't make it a bad coaster.
Wasn't Moonsault Scramble the first Hyper Coaster?
I straight up read "featuring YNW Melly" on the title lol
Superman el ultimo escape? isnt that supposedly a really good morgan hyper?
Morgan hypers are dope! Coastoons has literally never ridden one so I'm not sure why he's pretending to have an opinion.
@@stevedoesshows LMAO
People always forget that Kärnan is a hyper.
At 5:59, I'm having trouble understanding what you're saying. What kind of coasters did they build?
Hey👋🏽
Nice
Hyper coasters are a LIE!!
Moonsault Scramble!
Rarara!
I'm glad Magnum isn't a looper, you're totally right that their first hyper coaster could have been a mega looper in an alternate universe. :|
Mamba doesn’t deserve the hate, idk about the other two Morgan’s tho
Steel eel is really good just rode it today best row is 3
Idk if when I rode steel force it was hauling or smth but the midcourse didnt hit hard for me at all and I got strong floater to weak ejector on every single hill after the midcourse in both the front and the back. God the first half is shit though
Also you forgot the morgan hyper that everyone who has ridden says is better than phantom's revenge, superman el ultimo at six flags mexico. I think phantom's looks better, but I havent ridden either, and everybody who has ridden el ultimo seems to think its one of the best hypers out there.
Background music in the beginning??
ayyy wny coaster
5:38 thunder dolphin definitely is a hyper coaster according to modern standard
Before September 6 cedar point gold pass for the 2022 season is 99 dollars again.
Intamin makes the best launch coaster B & M makes the best hyper coasters wing coasters dive coasters and inverted coaster (not stand ups and flyers) GCI makes wooden coasters, and RMC makes the best hybrids
Yeah I don't think a hyper with Arrow's standard sized inversions would be fun.
Steel Force is amazing with its trims off. With trims on it’s ok.
What’s the background music
Thunder dolphin is definitely a hyper. It’s like 260ft
Idk y I get so much ejector on steel force
What about Giovanola?
When i see coastoon uploaded what should i do? click obviously
The big one in Blackpool is meh, but you have to cut us in the UK some slack it’s our only real hyper and it’s been over 20 years!
i restrict hypercoaster to a coaster that has a height or drop between 200-299 feet thus valravn lightning rod and son of beast are hypers and wicked twisted was
Superman at six flags Mexico tho
Raging bull is the best hypercoaster to me
The big ones still the tallest in the uk i think
Morgan has superman tho
did I just see Superman’s dong shadow
Don't write off Morgan hypers. Steel force is better than Apollo and candy imo
Coastoons is so much better to listen to. Other guy is sleepy
Uhmm Thunder Dolphin is wayyy over 200 feet
I respect magnum for what it stands for and it’s history, but rode it for the first time this summer and it’s the most overrated ride I have ever ridden. It’s really rough, the floater in the first half is inferior to most other hypers and the ejector hills at the end are not as insane as people talk about. I gave it 3 rides in the back row so maybe I just had it on a bad day but it was very underwhelming for me, I even liked Gemini more.
Back row, there's your answer as to why Magnum sucked. Just like three row PTC trains on wooden coasters you DONT want to ride in the back row of each car on Magnum because they are rough seats. If you want the insane air time you need to sit in car one row three which is known as the ejector seat, yes it's a rough seat but the roughness it worth putting up with at least once for the insane air time it gives. Magnum is more like a old wooden coaster, you have to know how to ride it or it won't be good. It took my family a YEAR to figure this out when we first went to CP, just like you we would have good rides some times and bad rides some times and we couldn't figure out why then finally we noticed the bad rides always had that box in the floor and we avoided those rows ever since. BTW this rule also applies to Arrow Mine Rides and coasters like Gemini and Excalibur at Valleyfair
ummm steel force is lovely :/
Ahem thunder dolphin IS a hyper
