here is another reason: It's a ride that can make a Helix feel forceful. Fenix in the front left seat gives a really strange feeling that "too free to be safe" because you're quite high up in the air with nothing in front of you.

    • @Soonjai
      @Soonjai 3 года назад +10

The Helix on Fenix is brutal when it comes to sustained, high positives. I prefer the right outer seat though as it is so low to the ground for such a long time that it makes you nervous that your feet will hit something.

Gardaland is my home park and I've ridden Raptor like a hundred times. It's not forceful at all, it has some nice floater on the first drop (in the back) and some very nice hangtime on the inversions, but that's not about it. People complain about them being forceless, completely ignoring that they're not meant to crush you with positives or throw you with ejector.
Wing Coasters are all about the experience. That's why I think Raptor is one of the best, because it surely is one of the best themed. I've ridden it a lot of times, and still manages to "scare me" with all the foot choppers and pieces of scenery you almost can touch. It's just a fun and graceful experience, you really feel like you're flying two feets away from the ground, and that's why the GPs love it.
Imo, the problem with the american Wings (in contrast to the european or asian ones) is that they barely have any theming. And Wing Coasters desperately require some theming to be fully appreciated.

  • @eastonchristensen3601

I think your forgetting the fact that they are just fun rides, pretty chill, elegant, and sometimes pretty intense, gatekeeper made it to my top 10 because of that, and we lapped it like 20 times because it was a station wait, and for my family who are GP, it was their second favorite ride in the park, behind Steve of corse

Honestly wings can pull some good positive Gs. Not too intense like you could find on some Intamins, but still to a similar level as their stronger inverts. The wing seats when combined with rolls or twists can act as lever-arms as well, providing an extra force of positive or negative gs on the rider due to the rotation. Next time you ride one with an inline twist get 2 rides, each on opposite sides of the train, and see how the force on your body changes. I guess that's another reason as well; trying out both sides of the train in addition to the normal front/back comparison. There's 4 ideal seats to try on a wing rather than 1-2 on normal coasters.
Honestly wing coasters are underrated. For both parks with an RMC Topper (ok one isn't fully topper anymore) and a wing coaster I've found both experiences of comparable quality, although something like an RMC I-Box would blow either out of the water.

  • @ThemeParkAvenue

I think the wing coasters are Newest Looping models from B&M.
I mean, Why would the parks buy Arrow loopers if there is B&m sitdown(besides of the budget)
And why would they buy B&M sitdown or standups if there is Floorless coasters?
So the wing coasters are likely the newest models for the 'looping coaster' market(partially including the inverted models)- I think that's why its really popular

They are also on of the few B&Ms that will go far negative. The hang time elements can approach an hit -1 g's. Nothing else does that on a B&M, everything else is pretty much limited to -.7. They are also decently forceful on the postives, getting well into the 4's. While they are graceful and bigger elements, missing that sense of whip, the higher forces than norm make up for it.

If oblivion was never built, cedar fair would never come up with the idea of a dive coaster. Alton towers only did because of their tree line rule and their idea to use a drop into a tunnel. Plus, if valravn was the first dive coaster it would’ve just been an oblivion clone because it was the prototype dive coaster. They wouldn’t build it because as the first ever dive coaster none of the records that it broke would be valid as it was the only one. It’s like marketing falcons flight as the worlds tallest exa coaster even though it’s the only one so technically also the smallest exa coaster

I still do nowadays, and I believe that a B&M Wing could’ve been a perfect replacement for Great American Scream Machine, and that I feel cheated by getting a relocated Stand-up instead. I really home one day Green Lantern is sent to another Six Flags park and converted into a Floorless, after which, a B&M Wing is built on the spot it currently sits on now.

Except for the mine train, which could be great with all the commitment to theming but is just too rough. Sucks the fun out of the ride. Wild Eagle on the other side is so smooth and graceful that I can ride it over and over. Lightning Rod is excellent but my neck takes about an hour to recover from that ride. I hear people calling Wild Eagle things like Mild Eagle and I just don't get it. Just because it is smooth doesn't mean it isn't fun. My son and I rode the back car left got right back in line and rode the front car right. I would have kept looping the line except my daughter was waiting for us because she won't ride anything with inversions (yet). It is just so much fun.

If Kings Dominion gets a model like Raptor I'll be excited, but if it's similar to an average one I won't care nearly as much.

I think these are popular because they’re a “safer”, less intense version of the Arrow 4D coaster model like X2. More graceful, less insane, overall more appealing to a broader audience.

It annoys me that often just GP love wing coasters and enthusiasts do not. As an enthusiast I have to say that I consider them extremely underrated. Its my 2nd favourite B&M Model (behind the Giga/Hyper), which is because of the various forces and experiences you get on a wing coaster ride. There are positives, floater, hangtime, near misses and in general cool inversions, which I love much more than just get crushed with positives the whole ride (like on most B&M models)

I think they are also popular with the GP because they are not crazy intense like Skyrush or Iron Gwazi.
