- I really like coaster names. Some people call them stupid, some people couldn't care less about them but to me, they can complete an experience. In this video, I dive into why.

Don't go to Europe if you want big entrance signs...
except for untamed, that entrance sign is sick
luckily for me im not going to Europe anytime soon
@@iweiss1752 Goliath too, both signs are a bit like each other but in a different style
@Boone Kason Hacking is illegal and immoral so please shut up and talk about roller coasters
Was not expecting you here
It's a shame the name goliath got overused so much. It is a decent name.
I agree
I agree
It made since with Magic Mountain since it was the first to use the name, but the last three coasters Six Flags named was just a terrible use of it.
Growing up the only Goliath I knew was at SFoG and it fit so well as it’s size dominates the skyline of the park. Figured out about the rest a few years ago and they don’t feel right to me.
Depending on which coast you live on, Goliath is either one of the best or one of the worst.
Driftveil City 👌👌😩
One criminally underrated coaster name is Top Thrill Dragster. Its themed to Top Fuel Dragsters, which are known for accelerating to fast speeds. It uses the theme park vocabulary “top thrill” and sounds like it’s the parks best coaster, making GP get on the ride. It uses the play on words so nicely, and it has an excellent logo sign.
Alton Towers has probably some of the best coaster names. Nemesis, Oblivion, Wicker Man, The Smiler are all amazing names that fit their themes and even coaster so well.
Merlin does a good job with names in general honestly. There's a few duds like Rita, stealth and nemesis inferno (rollercoaster sequels... Yiiiikes) but on the whole they're pretty good and tend to fit their really dark and cool themes. Idk the smiler is just a masterpiece of a theme. Not necessarily theming just the actual theme itself nothing tops it and the sign and name go a loooong way for that.
@@kimm1194 excatly
@@kimm1194 What about Spinball Whizzer dud or good name
@@kimm1194 Well Stealth, Nemesis Inferno and Rita were named and opened before Merlin took over. No excuse for Oblivion: The Blackhole though 🙄
rita is generic as runnaway train
Fury 325 makes sense as a name. We hate it here in NC, there’s hornets everywhere, and July feels like 325 degrees.
Hornets get ANGRY
When I Went to BGT like a few weeks ago, it was 110, and all the rides were shut down.
@@solarflaree6750 to think that a place on Earth gets that hot, like bro we're gonna need to evacuate florida one day or another
And you like the coaster bc it ur pfp
Agreed
Copperhead Strike's logo and sign are both on point 👌
The Swarm is also a cool name
I love it when coaster names are tied to a story, like De Vliegende Hollander, Der Schwur des Kärnan or Wicker Man.
I love those names but most of them are super long and hard to be said fluently.
The Smiler is cool and I like the them but it’s creepy, it’s like they actually secretly themed to MK Ultra and the ride is a huge mind control torture device, it’s like as if a park that can’t afford DC Licensing makes a ride as close as possible to looking like it’s themed to superman without actually using the name or exact logo. Just the fact that the ride has screens with real subliminal messages that flash the word OBEY and has illuminati symbols and videos of what looks exactly like MK Ultra and how there are cameras everywhere and they used to even be on the ride and how it crashed and cut off 2 ladies legs just adds to it
@@DARK_AMBIGUOUS the fuck are you talking about??? they didn't theme it to MKultra because most people don't know what that is, they just themed it to straight up fucking hypnosis
@@iceblade019 in dutch "de vliegende Hollander" is a sentence ofc, but in English you say the flying Dutchman
I loved the wicker man so much
Steel Eel rhymes, fits the ocean theme of SeaWorld, fits the ride because it's steel, and it is the most fun roller coaster name to say. Say Steel Eel really fast out loud like SteelEel, and you'll understand.
Hey, that's my ride! I work there. :)
leedleedleedlee
Wow, I thought I was the only one who liked Nitro’s entrance...
The original goliath at sfmm definitely has a really underrated entrance plaza with those giant letters that you walk through.
Unpopular opinion: the ride is also underrated its a really good ride
Coastoons: *Oblivion is a really good name*
Oblivion the black hole: *Is for me?*
B&M sure love their mythology... Medusa, Leviathan, Hydra the Revenge, Banshee, Alpengeist, Goliath (technically Giovanola but close enough). I love when there's mystery and Mythology attributed to a coaster, it brings it to life
apollos chariot and pantheon too
don't forget Valravn
I've always thought X2 was such a cool name for a such a cool ride. Also, I feel like "the swarm" would be a way better name for a hornet-themed ride than "fury 325".
I think Stealth at Thrope Park is a bad name. Its a racing theme so Stealth doesn't really make sense with the theme.
Yeah
It was originally going to be called The Edge but Pizza Hut owned the trademark so they had to change it last minute.
It was planned to be “Adrenaline” 🤢
Stealth would be a phenomenal name if it wasn't racing, ffs theme a launch coaster to something other than racing.
I’m honestly surprised that Steel Vengeance makes the list but Phantoms Revenge doesn’t.
Phantom is such a unique and cool name, and it works with both steal phantom and phantoms revenge so well
The problem is too many rides have "revenge" in the name. Phantom's Revenge. The Riddler's Revenge. Joker's Revenge, the defunct coaster at the defunct Six Flags New Orleans. It's kind of expected, and overused for drama point.
@@ThePhantomSafetyPin Revenge is actually unique because the ride was reborn into a bigger and meaner ride. Now the phantom is back for its revenge. The other coaster that does revenge well is Hydra.
Okay but consider: Iron Rattler combined with that beautiful logo/seal on the side of the hill is one of the best names ever.
3:20 “If [the entrance] doesn’t make you want to get on the ride, I don’t know what will.”
The rollercoaster itself: *hmmmmm*
Ngl, Cedar fair is the king of coaster naming. They're almost always unique yet at the same time straight to the point
They have so many good ones and they usually make pretty cool entrances
Trying to think of good cedar fair named hold on
-afterburn which would be good for a theme related to fire
-ghost rider
-gold striker
-blue streak
-maverick
Yeah that's all I can think of, in my opinion Cedar Fair has some names I can't take seriously. One of my least favorite names is Intimidator 305. Shiver me timbers. I know it's themed to dale earnhardt but that's the only reason I don't make fun of it more. It just sounds so cheesy and stereotypical. It's fun to make fun of things that don't affect the ride at all
Intimidator 305 is actually an awesome name that has a stat in its name. References Dale Earnhardt Sr, who was known as the intimidator, uses the height, and makes a hell of a catchy name.
I agree with The Beast, Steel Vengeance, and Maverick's names being cool. Animal names are also always cool, usually. Other overlooked names I like:
Shivering Timbers: Really, really decent name for a wooden coaster. Woodies shake a lot, they rumble, they, dare I say... shiver? It's a great pun on "shiver me timbers" even without the pirate theme. And it made even more sense when ST had that trick track that felt like you were gonna fall off.
Rock'n'Roller Coaster: I'm a sucker for a good pun name. This one hits it, fits the theme, and it's just fun to say.
Valravn: I just think any coaster named after a mythical being is cool. Fuck it, put Rougarou here too, werewolves are also cool. Plus it actually made me look up what a valravn is. They're badass supernatural ravens that feast on dead kings is what. If you don't think that's metal, I don't know you.
Orient Express: Come on. You know you think this name is clever for where it was in the Orient section of Worlds of Fun. It perfectly describes its theme, where it was located, and how fast it is. It's neat.
X-Flight: I just think it's cool and mysterious. No other reason. I like how it fits the theme.
The Joker's Jinx: The Joker is a twisted Batman villain that always has some sick amusement up his sleeve, and often works in abandoned carnivals. The Joker's Jinx is a twisty, turny spaghetti bowl designed coaster with loads of head-chop moments, and it's launched. It fits the character, fits the theme, and fits the name perfectly.
Top Thrill Dragster: Also great. Puns on Top Fuel Dragster. Fits the theme. No complaints.
Kingda Ka: Just sounds really fucking cool and the fact it's named after one of the park's tigers is cool.
Candymonium: Again, I'm a sucker for a good pun. Plus it's just a fun name to say.
Wild Eagle is an Ok name but the font and the colors make it more intimidating, plus the giant Eagle right across from it and that massive lift hill tho
4:57 I personally love how Georgia Scorcher sounds. It has a nice ring to it.
Not to mention it’s hot as hell in Georgia. The slogan is pretty cool for the theme too, since it’s a standup coaster, “Can you Stand the Heat?”
The Donkey Kong music was just perfect
When a video starts out with Driftveil City's theme in the background, you know it's about to be good.
The Beast is without a doubt my favorite coaster name. It fits the ride exactly how it needs to
"When I think of fury the first thing I think of is-"(Red Robin ad)
Apollo's chariot is the best name for a b&m hyper it sounds regal and it references the airtime you get on it
Goliath at magic mountain has such an incredible entrance, it’s so nice, it’s one of my favorite coasters!
When you know what you're doing, ANYTHING can contribute to a ride's theme. No matter how small.
I kind of agree with you here as when plopsaland announced there brand new highly anticipated extreme spinning coaster would be called a ride to happiness all the hype died
imagen if they call it like that bc when you ride it they spray lauging gas in your nose and thats how you get high and have a ride to happiness :)
I love leviathan at canada's wonderland not only because the coaster itself fits the name but also because of the giant dragon sign on a fountain in front of the coaster. It intimidated me so much when I was younger and went there and I chickened out the whole day until finally at the end I decided to ride it and I loved it.
I remember getting goosebumps when I heard the rumor that Gatekeeper would be the new coaster crossing the front gate of CP.
Shivering Timbers is an amazing name🔥
I’ve been binging your videos haha, you make some great insights!
Intergalactic apple picking. Best thing I've heard all week! 😂😂
Maverick is my personal favorite coaster name, glad it gets some representation 😁
Alpengeist just sounds cool to say
It's German, somehow German names often fit very well with coaster names outside of Germany
Very entertaining coaster video/channel Liked and subscribed!
In my opinion, the best roller coaster name of all time is Steel Eel. It's perfect. It fits the park it's at, is intimidating, has a fantastic ring to it, and fits the coaster itself. Whoever came up with that name deserves a raise. A close second is Boardwalk Bullet (which is also a fantastic ride btw).
i think chessington does a good job at naming their coasters well. their super aggressive wild mouse is called rattlesnake, their suspended coaster is called vampire (maybe a bit predictable), and their big spinning coaster (possibly one of the most exciting rides at the park) dragons fury
This video is my favorite of yours that I have seen. It is a great point about if a coaster has a good name or a good entry plaza/sign I get more excited for the coaster. Some of my favorite coaster names of coasters that I have been on are: The Beast, The Voyage (you feel like you have been on a voyage after), Valraven, Lightning Run, and maxx force
And Railblazer at CA Great America is so creative with the name referencing it to off-roading in the SF bay area where the park is located, whilst also referencing the fact it is a single rail coaster.
Personally I love all of Holiday World’s coaster names, Raven based on Edgar Allen Poe’s poem and themed to Halloween, the Legend (of sleepy hallow) with the headless horseman, the Voyage themed to the literal treacherous voyage the pilgrims took to America, and finally Thunderbird, a myth from Native American folklore in which they believe a legendary bird helped to bring the pilgrims through the storm. Like these names are all amazing in my opinion. I may be biased as it is my home park, but they’re all just great
LOVE THIS CHANNEL!! You have sooooo much potential
Another great video man! Original content and great editing!
We gunna talk about how good that transition to the font section was?
The Smiler. That name makes me want to ride the coaster even more. The 14 inversions make you feel slightly dizzy, and the name gives you no sense of what you are getting yourself into while still giving you a tiny idea of what to expect. Another unrelated point is the queue. It's a very unique experience that fits the theme perfectly. I don't really want to go into detail in order to not spoil it for those who have not ridden it yet, but I will say you have no clue what to expect if its your first time.
Love to hear worlds of fun coasters mentioned
7:26 Outlaw Run is actually themed to running away from outlaws trying to rob your stagecoach. During the ride you outrun the outlaws and lead them to be ambushed by the sheriff, because at Silver Dollar City "the good guys always win".
Funny coastoons video as always and yeah I agree names and logos r sometimes overlooked but can really add to a ride
You might not like number stats in names but you gotta admit Hersheyparks “Fahrenheit: 97 degrees and falling” is creative
See thats alright bc the stat is a pun and its in the catch line not the actual name. If it was farhenheit97, then I would have a problem
Diamond back is really well themed and named as well
“Kingda Ka” always stood out to me as a kid and elevated my feelings towards the coaster to this day. I can’t get myself to like Dragster more than it based solely on its name.
One of my personal favorites is "Timberhawk Ride of Prey" at Washington's Wild Waves and Enchanted Village.
Really solid wooden coaster running around through the woods, it feels like a bird (that is hawk) hunting between the trees (timber).
I'm also biased on that one since I actually live less than 20 minutes from the park.
Nitro's theme and color package was definitely made by someone who REFUSED to leave the 90's, and I am not complaining about it.
A good name makes it more hype on a day with long lines. Staying in line all day is way better when it's got a cool name hyping it up.
Georgia Scorcher is a name that I really like. It’s referring to the friction of the train going throughout the layout, and that you can almost feel it since you are standing. It also just sounds cool.
"Mind Eraser" - A very appropriate name for an SLC and the potential head injuries sustained while riding it.
Mibd eraser sounded like a cool name in the 1990s
best name ever
It's like calling Vortex or Green Lantern First Flight the "Infertilizer"
Man I understand you so much. The ride closed before I was born but Big Bad Wolf is such a cool name for a coaster in a german themed section of the park.
The ride may not have been great but I always thought that Drachen Fire is a pretty kick-ass name for a coaster. Alpengeist is pretty sweet too.
BGW had sort of a legendary-creature thing going with The Loch Ness Monster and The Big Bad Wolf; I suppose those names continued it to some degree.
you are good at making coaster videos...quite good...
Somehow I am missing Untamed here, really fits the ride type as well!
though the Walibi Untamed annoys me a bit because now when I talk about my favorite coaster at my home park (Canobie Lake Park's Untamed) I have to use additional qualifiers. Canobie really went all-out with the rustic sign and theming too.
I think every ride should be called Batman or Goliath. Six Flags agrees with me
Every RMC also should have "twisted" or "wicked" in its mame.
@@stonedfinn3649 or cyclone
Okay but Batman: The Ride at Great America has *the coolest ride entrance and queue* I've ever seen outside of a Disney park. Doesn't get more immersive than that.
Batman: The Goliath Batman
I love all the names to the coasters you put on this list but 2 I thought you forgot to mention that I really love is Space Mountain from Disneyland and Ghost Rider from Knott’s Berry Farm! The ride names and logos are just awesome and they make the ride even more spectacular they could’ve named them something lame and it might have changed the GP’s and Coaster Enthusiast’s outlook on the entire attraction completely!!! Awesome video I really love your videos and your voice is soothing to hear thx! For this video just for a future video I want to know your opinion on who do u think parks would choose to build future wooden coasters GCI or RMC!!!
In my opinion, Stealth's (Thorpe Park) logo is a work of art.
I love how you play pop smoke beats in the background. Plz do it more!
I also like Railblazer. It is a trailblazer as one of the first single rail coasters, and the name just fits it. Plus the atv theme is cool.
My personal favorite is Wicked at lagoon. Right by the entrance they have a statue of the launch tower with a small fountain below it. The name has a fire effect and looks amazing.
The Boss at Six Flags St. Louis has a hella cool name, logo, and entrance, with that awesome looking medieval wooden archway
bgw has some of the coolest coaster signs and entrances i've ever seen in a theme park. Verbolten and Alpengeist especially.
Another thing to point out about wicked cyclone is the train running over the track sounds like hurricane force winds which fits the nor'easter theme of the ride
Entirely agree with you, as someone who likes designing characters based on these beloved rides, name and theme go a long way
Lol your videos entertain me so much their funny 😂 and good 👍
Maverick is an all-time favorite! Theme, name, and ride experience all wrapped up perfectly. You didn’t mention Steel Curtain at Kennywood as a hood or bad name/theme for a coaster. Definitely curious to know your thoughts on that one!
My favorite coaster name has always been Buzz Saw Falls. Silver Dollar City really does know how to properly name a coaster.
My favorite logo is oblivions it is so cool because of the way it has the arrow and then the theme. Mwaaa best logo ever
really great editing!
my favorite coaster name ever is Alpengeist.
its a possessed Alpine chair lift. An Alpine Poltergeist....perfect
the thing that annoys me about Fury isn't the name, but the color.
its themed on Hornets...you have the Charlotte Hornets with the blue and purple...and this things has this lime green instead. Like...it pops dont get me wrong but replace that green with purple and now im thinking of good Charlotte theming.
But that reminds...why are all B&M Gigas a shade of blue?..and all but 1 giga being blue...and even then i305 is themed around Dale Earnhardt...the man in black...and the coaster is red and yellow? wtf? Not to mention for a guy who was famous for turning left, the made the signature turn an intense right hander.🤷♂️
I might be completely wrong here but they maybe blue to blend them with the sky better? I know stealth at thorpe park had to be painted white on the top to blend it in better and make it more part of the skyline instead of sticking out like a sore thumb
@@thrillverse they painted it white to blend in with an overcast sky, that's very british
No Kingda Ka, that name just sounds massive and godly.
I think having numbers in coaster names can sometimes elevates to another level, like, "Fury" by itself is pretty corny, lame name, but "Fury 325" just looks sooooo much cooler, especially with the way you say it like "Fury Three-Two-Five" or "Intimidator Three-O-Five", or with Magnum XL-200, "Magnum" by itself is already a really cool name, add the XL-200 and you've got yourself a legendary name for a legendary coaster, or Steel Dragon 2000, like, it wasn't even built in 2000 and it still sounds cool af imo, it doesn't work with every name, especially with longer ones, but when it works, it just sounds so cool imo
I really like Dare Devil at Six Flags OG because it makes you feel like you daring to do something with the 95 degree drop.
THANK YOU for mentioning prowler cause I COMPLETLEY AGREE
Kingda Ka's entrance plaza, the Golden Kingdom, is amazing too, the bamboo forest into the exotic and mysterious queue. The architecture of the main building and the long walk with building anticipation for the coaster is spot on and unlike any other ride. It feels like you've been transported to Adventureland at Disneyland, in New Jersey. Great Font with logo and tiger eyes too.
I think the name and logo of gatekeeper at cedar point is under rated like it the first ride you see at the park when entering and the gold bird References the fact that it is a wing coster. Also love the videos keep up the great work
Thank you for this video
based on your opinion with fury's name i am guessing you don't like the name intimidator 305 either
I mean, imagine naming Leviathan to "Fury 306"
You get the idea why
I just dont lkke the number parts of names. Without the numbers the names are less cluttered we've just gotten used to saying i305
@@Coastoons understandable
Good that we can say Magnum or Fury without the number. Annoying that Intimidator without a number is a different coaster.
I like the attention to detail in Diamondback’s logo, as the snake’s tongue is made of B&m track
Iron Rattler is the sickest and evokes the best mental visual imo
I always thought adding twisted in front of cyclone and colossus was cool since they used to be regular wooden rides till rmc got their hands on it, which is when twisted was added
Even if the boss at SixFlags St. Louis has a strange name, it has an AMAZING entrance
Mystic Forest Falls entrance with the water fall is literally the best
Georgia Scorcher is an expression for a hot day in the summer. Not a dumb name
My Favorite coaster name and logo was shockwave at Kings Dominion because Green and my favorite color it’s such a cool name also.
Every music track was a nostalgia rush, even Bowser Jr. battle from MP9
“Skyrush, I like this name solely for the purpose it rhymes with thigh crush”
-coastoons 2021
If it ever sounds like it could be a thrash metal band name, it’ll be fire.
A big entrance sign you should check out is the boss, it's one of my personal favorites and it's at six flags st Louis.
Wooden coasters with fire names
coastoons: the beast
also coastoons: things and animal
