I feel the steel actually makes a lot of sense for a small knife like this. I used to have an orange vg10 one and sold it like a dummy, I love orange spydies
Dude, right on the money. Everyone should have at least one Dragonfly in their rotation, in whatever steel. They are a great option when I want a very lightweight carry but enough of a knife to do EDC tasks. Great video. Where the heck do you get your music and movie clips? They are terrific.
I carry a dragonfly EDC. Sometimes by itself and other times with another bigger blade. Very useful little knife. The one I carry has a ZDP-189 blade. Think I may pick the K390 version up as well.
That wire clip needs to used more...Tenacious, YES PLEASE!! Looks like a useful knife for the size. Spyderco does a great job with useful real estate! Good walk around
Actually that knife steel does good with small thin behind the edge knives. It’s a beautiful thing seeing Spyderco making all these in regular production runs so we’ll see many of them and that’s great for the price.
Been tempted by the Dragonfly in the past. Might have to pick up one of these although every Seki City Spyderco I’ve had had (had had?) centering issues.
I have wanted to try a dragonfly for some time and just haven't added it yet. So, great look at it. Would be a cool little lunch food prep knife. Thanks.
thanks for comparing the bugout to dragonfly2 sizes, i edc a bugout but was looking for something a little smaller an this fits the bill, thanks again..
Hey, appreciate you checking out the review. Bugout is a great EDC, love mine, but agreed, when I need something a bit smaller the Dragonfly is a great choice. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
Thanx for the great review and just got this knife as it's like my 5th dragonfly. Really liking this blade material as it reminds me of another one the chaparral. Take care.
Thanks for checking out the review and the kind words! Yeah the K390 steel on this Dragonfly is pretty cool... mine has definitely started to develop a natural patina. All the best!
No...no one even comes close to the steel variants of Spyderco! By the way, I played the "beast of a steel" game...having a hard time focusing on the keyboard...lol!! Thanks for sharing brother!!
Have and love this knife, it’s been my edc since I got it! Just ordered the spiderco stretch straight back in k390. Excited should be a great elk quartering blade!
I bought the Ladybug in K390 today. Love it for carry in a suit pocket. My local seller was pre-sold for the entire Dragonfly order (but I still have a ZDP Dragonfly).
...Aaand for those of us that actually use even our small knives and like them to stay sharp for long periods between sharpenings.... K390 is a high wear resistance steel. While it has decent toughness, it's definitely not the toughest steel option available by any means. For a true hard use knife I'd prefer Cruwear, which I have in several of my larger knives. But for edge retention, gimme K390 all day long.
Looks pretty good and I usually hate FRN but that didn't look bad. Should be a fun backup. Just don't usually pay that much for backup knife. Great review. I don't think I have ever seen a stainless tool steel.
I got the delica version and found it holds a toothy edge really well . I was actually surprised how fast it lost its smooth Keen edge. Anyone else notice this?
Clean your blades, Brad! You wouldn’t want people to get the wrong idea and think you actually use your knives! 😂 awesome review as always. I have the ladybug in k390, and was actually looking into the dragonfly or the delica in k390. I don’t know about that lanyard hole on the dragonfly.... really like the balde shape though! Thanks again, Bud!
Lol, yeah I need get some cleaning done! I'm enjoying this little Dragonfly, don't have anything else in K390 so I'm liking that. Let me know if yoy pick one of these or the Delica up! Thanks for checking it out!
hey buddy, i keep meaning to pick me up a dragonfly then the money goes on another spydie. but i am gonna get one as i don't mind a small spyderco collection even if there not all used. i think i'm gonna grab the green g10 one though as to me it's gorgeous and better looking, and vg10 for opening the mail is cool.👍
That's a great point, though I would say this knife is $100, not exactly entry level for a lot of folks, but definitely cheaper than trying to get a PM2 or something in a steel like this. Appreciate you checking out the review and commenting!!
@@mildmannerededc yep, totally agree. $100 is a lot, but it's cheaper than buying a big boy knife in a fancy steel and not being happy with some aspect of it (oh, like maybe the corrosion resistance?). Thanks for the quality content, sir!
That’s not why lol lots of people just want a small decent knife . I’d never carry anything bigger than a dragonfly. Don’t need to for what I’m cutting
Interesting little knife, especially with that steel. Unfortunately at that price I would normally lean toward a handful of knife. Besides I have about 2 dozen knives now and my wife wants to know "why do you need so many?" LOL!
Hey do you know the HRC of the new Seki line of K390 knives? I have the Delica in K390 but I can't find out the HRC of them. I don't want to keep bugging Sal on the forums as I ask him too many. If I can't find out I'll have to go there and just ask him.
Unfortunately I do not, sorry. It doesn't seem to be posted anywhere on retail or Spyderco sites, at least that I can find. I have to imagine it's gonna be more than sufficient for any EDC needs, Spyderco usually treats their steel pretty well. Let me know if you find out!
@@mildmannerededc Thanks, that's the same result as me then haha, I've looked everywhere. I just wanted to know so that I have a correct reference point when talking about its edge retention in future videos. Looks like I'm going to have to go ask Sal and the guys over ont he forums, I'll let you know what I find out buddy, take care and thanks.
Forgot to mention the price, duh! $98 at most retailers. Also, you can play a drinking game with the number of times I say "beast of a steal," so there's that.
I think this is the most underrated knife out there. Anyone wanting a light weight EDC would be crazy not to pickup one of these.
What? I’m only supposed to get one?
Got both the wharncliffe and the leaf shape blades. One in v10. Great little knives very happy with them.
Always wanted a dragonfly just never picked one up. Cool to see the steel upgrade. Great review 👍

Picked up Dragonfly 2 Wharnie in K390 off the secondary market... Very excited 😁!
Right on! That Wharnie speaks to me! Enjoy and thanks for watching!
I just ordered one. Very excited. How sharp out of the box was it?
Awesome! Typical razor sharp from Spyderco out of the box. Enjoy!

Well said! Really appreciate you watching and commenting. All the best.
Been tempted by the Dragonfly in the past. Might have to pick up one of these although every Seki City Spyderco I’ve had had (had had?) centering issues.
I've handled several, but this is the first one I owned. To be honest, it was mostly the steel that tempted me. Thanks for watching!
I have wanted to try a dragonfly for some time and just haven't added it yet. So, great look at it. Would be a cool little lunch food prep knife. Thanks.
KnivesFAST get one you won't regret it.

It's not in K390 but I love my Dragonfly nonetheless, in this case size doesn't matter 😂
Have and love this knife, it’s been my edc since I got it! Just ordered the spiderco stretch straight back in k390. Excited should be a great elk quartering blade!
Right on! Enjoy the Stretch, hard to argue with this k390 series. Thanks for watching!

A hot spot?! It’s a 2” blade! What hard work are ya doin with this lil package opener?

Awesome my favorite knife company very cerebral palsy friendly great video dude
I love the color of the handle. Great video
It's a cool color for sure. Thanks for watching Jade, much appreciated.
Hahahaha I typed my comment right before the Chuck Norris cutaway! Such a glorious clip!
Always gotta stay for the Chuck!
Nice review!
Nice thing is when it's a pain to sharpen the steel you can send it back to spyderco to make them sharpen it. 😉👍
I've a manbug in zdp189 for hard use, this is a beast.lol. atb paddy
Got that one in the pd#1
I got the delica version and found it holds a toothy edge really well . I was actually surprised how fast it lost its smooth Keen edge. Anyone else notice this?
Hard to say without trying a different edge beyond factory edge at different angles or grits

I like a lanyard on a Dragonfly. It extends the grip.
Makes sense. I'm not a lanyard guy, but that's the beauty of the hobby, everybody EDCs their own way. Thanks for checking out the review!

The main reason Spyderco makes these entry level knives with these awesome steels is so we can try out the steels on the cheap.
That's a great point, though I would say this knife is $100, not exactly entry level for a lot of folks, but definitely cheaper than trying to get a PM2 or something in a steel like this. Appreciate you checking out the review and commenting!!

Is the vg10 just as prone to corrosion as this one?
Not at all. I had one for many years.

Just my size...but I don’t really like the lock back. I di Ike your music however, who was that?
I'm generally with you on lock backs... this one doesn't bother me I think because it's so small.
I take the clip off and carry in my 5th pocket. No problem.
It's priced at around £130 in the UK - that's ~£170USD. I'd love one, but that price is brutal
Just got a used K390 Pingo for £60 on the secondary market, and it's very similar in overall size to the Dragonfly. Sorted!
i hope you can insert a brief video clip of Biff Tannen when the moment is just right in a future video. i dont care about the McFly family
Lol! I'll see what I can do.
Forgot to mention the price, duh! $98 at most retailers. Also, you can play a drinking game with the number of times I say "beast of a steal," so there's that.
A mild what now?
Uh.... Bark River. Bark River has more steel/handle variants than ANYONE. Ever.
I dig it man but since it ain't orange you best send it here ;)
I am not a deep carry person
Just force a patina
