China Kweess wtf yes she 100% can!! She’s famous for it. Mariah is the one getting old and loosing her whistle register. Ariana grande is one of only a couple people in the music industry that doesn’t need auto-tune and is natural.

China Kweess yeah she can but she chooses not to do it a lot because she doesn’t want to ruin her voice like Mariah did. She does do high falsettos most of the time because she is responsible with her vocal chords.

This video is one of the better videos to explain the whistle technique and I will tell you why: It's a common a misconception that whistle notes have to be "super high". It's the technique and the timbre that truly establishes if it's whistle. Anything in the 5-7 octave range can be a whistle. It can also overlap with head voice(falsetto) and VERY rarely chest voice. But those are usually on the lower ends of the octaves with chest voice tapping out around 5 and head voice around 6. Whistle goes beyond that to 7, the highest octaves the piano can play.
I can sing a the same note in my head and chest voice, but the timbre will be different. The same applies to my head voice and whistle register. I think what a lot of people expected was for her to sing a lot of notes in the 7th register. However, it isn't practical for most beginning to use this technique to emulate the 7th register until proper technique is obtained.
Most vocal teachers will have you expand your lower range before expanding your higher range. There are exceptions, of course, but typically starting in your tessitura (the range most comfortable) you warm up going up about mid way to the top of your register, then warm up going downwards, expanding your diaphragm and lowering your jaw while approaching the notes from "above". Most of us, myself included, have the habit of reaching towards notes, which commonly leads to falling under the pitch or flat. Approaching your lower notes from above not only helps with intonation, but it also warms the vocal chords up. At this time, you warm up going past the mid range and into upper registers.
If your throat hurts, you're breathing from your chest and most likely pinching your throat closed. You want your stomach(diaphragm) to expand and have a mostly vertical approach when singing. This will allow better control and comfort.
If you're breathing from your diaphragm correctly, your throat shouldn't hurt but it will feel as though you did some ab workouts.
    I hope this helps.

The whistle register is really meant for our fight and flight response. It’s a defense mechanism that we’re all born with. Children use it all the time when they are playing or if they hurt themselves.

    • @mencot89

yes after i started meddling with whistle register i cant stop but listen when kids are screaming 😂😂 it's literally a scream but controlled. i cant really do it though. im trying but i have problem with straining. i can get to D6 on a really good day. otherwise i tend to push from my throat. i can feel like there's a whole other space i can use when i do it correctly. just that no sound come out. ive read it takes time for vocal cords to come together and produce sound like it should, idk when for me lmao

Watching videos like this, and practising almost every minute everyday will surely make you able to do whistles (flageoletto) yourselves. She's correct in holding your breath. It helps to contain enough air supply to support the creation whistle as well as it set the larynx in a relax state. She is also correct on not putting pressure to your vocal cords in attempting to reach those high notes. I committed those mistakes through my practices and got extreme swelling on the soft palette area.
But try to train yourself to be comfortable in singing through your pharyngeal/soft palette section (that is, the area at the back of our mouth). Then produce the sound in this roof section by making the roof of your mouth a dome-like space, through which resonance can be produced. Then channel the sound through this roof-section (soft palette) toward the sides of your nose (I mean, to feel the vibration there; or somewhat feeling the sound is released in the sides of the nose). With this, you'll feel the sound is produced from the back, arches along the roof section (not sure if above or below of the soft palette), and released through the sides of the nose.
You may also try to channel the sound in the area between the eyebrows, simultaneously in your cheeks's muscles right beneath the eyes. Since whistle register is also called super head voice, its sound is undoubtedly produced right at the higher sections of our very heads.
With this I can reach D7-A7 but can't always hold the notes to produce music a la Mariah Carey. Sometimes I do, but rarely. And I can't predict what note exactly will be produced. I just measure them through a note reading app.
But what I noticed is that I have a blank spot, that is, I can reach C6-F#6, sometime G6 (thru resonance in the soft palette) and D7-A7 (resonating in the nose and cheeks). I only produce A6-Bb6 by accident. And able to hit D8 by a chance, but gave me a slicing sensation in my throat; so never did that again.
Hope this can help others who are curious how to do whistle tones, as I was two years ago.
For now, I just keep on practicing it -- not every minute though, but every day.

That's actually not true. Due to the immense pressure of the note, it will be easier to keep in tune once you can control it.

Johnny Cuff stop? I love doing it, you shouldn't say rhat I love making my voice range longer and I love singing. You can't just say "stop" I mean it's true some people can hit it and such. But wanting to learn isn't bad. If you learn a whistle tone of really just a really high note you can control yur voice better, it is a nice skill, and you can earn many things from it. Don't put people don't, I'm sorry but this comment is ridiculous and unnecessary.

Try learning through inhale. I struggled for years tying to learn. Whistle voice is the only one that really goes both inhale, and exhale... Exhale sounds better, but inhale can get you there.

Thank you Thank you THANK YOU for explaining how to train the Whistle Register! I saw other great singers but you are the first who could explain it really good. Its a secret, that we have to use very less air but when I look at whistle Singers you can see that they are all relaxed in singing.
I know it will takes time before it sounds good, but until then I practice it with closed mouth. Its working great and I am sure that my neighbours are happy about it too ;)
I am looking forward to have in the future the opportunity to sing with Whistle Voice :)

You just practice, I’ve always had good pitch and whistles too and for me I didn’t really need to practice that much but yeah I would just say practice on a piano/keyboard if u don’t have one then go online search like keyboard notes or something and just hear the note and without scooping try to hit the note first try, like don’t start a bit lower but just do it not like aaaaaaaaaaa more like a a a a a a a if u get what I mean

It does really work when I was in my studies I stopped while I was student teaching and went back to it . It works. I looked at many whistle tone singing videos and this was the greatest being I am a vocal instructor. You can further the study by using siren sounds , and this time of the year use a witches cackle too. this stretches the vocal chords ability to stretch the notes. practice makes perfect. Thanks Faye.

yeah its super head voice, stopping most of your breath is the OPPOSITE of whistle, whistle is given its power with air while super head voice doesnt need air, shv cant reach the same height as whistle (which naturally lies in the 7th octave) shv is used for the sixth octave (and SOMETIMES the 7th octave but it doesnt sound good)

It means you are contracting your throat and swallowing muscles and adding unecessary tension. You need to develop a neutral larynx and a decent supported head voice to try whistling.

    • @christoferfrez1795
      @christoferfrez1795 8 лет назад +1

Chloe Lynn I don't think you're singing whistle if it stops there. E6 usually is where the head voice stops for a female so I think you're just singing really high head voice. I don't think the maker of this video is singing whistle either cause it doesn't sound like that when Mariah does it. It's supposed to sound like a literal whistle, like a bird singing. The thing with whistle register is that it's a disconnected register, it doesn't feel like falsetto/head voice at all.

Believe me you'll want to rip out your fucking vocal chords because your definitely going to get frustrated. Just do lots of warm ups, drink honey, drink room temperature water, steam yourself do whatever you can to keep your voice healthy and keep practicing! I'm still working on it but you really CAN do whatever you set your mind to. Trust me I'm not there yet, but I'm making progress so I'm sure you will too. Dont give up!

Figured this out when I was 8 years old by mistake. Then lost it (or didn't try) after puberty. 20 years later I had to relearn it to access the notes I had lost from my falsetto. Never taught, just had to figure out a way to sing higher notes. As a 35 year old man, I can hit every note on a guitar, as a smoker.
