+Ringa Sailo No one trained her to do whistle. She said in an interview, that it was something that she discovered and just played around with it, and she said that it's just always been a part of her voice.
RUclips Passerby I'm sorry that's partly true but her mom is a classical opera singer and heard her speaking and playing around in whistle and trained her to better utilize control that part of her voice..
Justin your voice and vocal range are absolutely unbelievable! I hope your students are aware of how blessed they are to have you as their voice coach. I'm grateful for all the valuable information you share with us here on RUclips. Thank you!
How had I never come across this channel before? His skills, his knowledge, his didactics, his personality, and his confidence are so amazing that I felt the need to subscribe.
I've tried a million other explanations to hit the whistle range, this video is the only way that ever explained it to where I could do it. You're brilliant.
This is the BEST video on RUclips about the whistle register. He has a pedagogical understanding of how to truly sing in whistle. Every other video on RUclips is either squealing or flageolet. Whistle is completely disconnected from the other registers! Thank you, sir!!! I would also add that singing in whistle is like being double jointed. You either have it or you don't.
Yes. He is really kind in person, too. Have you heard Justin's range and how different he can make his voice sound: ruclips.net/video/tnSSp3R9Wd8v/видео.htmle
DAYUM. I didn't know you could whistle. Not only that, you can also pull off those very low notes on the piano. What kind of vocal range have you got mate? That shouldn't even be legal 😤😤😤

This video taught me to do it even before I finished watching it. Highest note I've reached so far is Bb6 while the note which I found the easiest to sustain is a G6 note. Holy cow this guy is a genius! Thank you for this, Sir!
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching I noticed a few things 5 days after I've learned it. I can hit higher notes with the inhale phonation compared to the exhale one. Highest note using inhale phonation is a Bb6 note while I can only hit an Eb6 with exhale phonation. Is it normal? And also, my falsetto and head voice seem to be messed up because it is harder for me to control it now. It now instantly skips to the 6th octave making me miss the 5th octave notes. I can still hit those notes with falsetto and head voice, but now with so much effort to lower my voice. I lost the resonance of my head voice. Please tell me if it is normal because it is bothering me. Will wait for your reply. Thanks!
I've never had leonardo di caprio look at me in the eye while chirping like a bird and sounding fantastic at the same time. In a more serious note, this will help me get those notes from Dimash Kudaibergen's Sos d'un terrien en detresse. I wish Justin reviewed Dimash u.U
At first I was like who's this guy and should I trust him... but by the end you realize okay he's a genius. Subscribe and watch every episode ever haha
Inhale phonation!!!!! Thank u so much. I finally did it! I’m so in shock rn. It didn’t even strain my throat. I don’t know how to thank u this awesome.
I’ve always been able to sing Mariah Carey/Minnie Riperton level whistle range (I’m a professional and amateur singer and musician). I have vocal nodules (like Carey) and I sing through them (though I always warm ur properly and keep my instrument in good shape), but this was really an eye opening video for me, even so. Thanks so much for sharing it!
OMG🙀 Justin you're a genius! You make it so easy, simple & practical to do. I tried it for the first time and I did it!!! Do u know how that made me feel??? Amazingly Good🤩👍🤩 Thank you so much for this very special gift, tons of blessings to you!
This was incredibly helpful. I accidentally discovered this inhaled whistle technique many years ago when I was playing around with my vocal cords when I was getting into voice acting techniques. I didn't start learning how to sing yet, so I didn't recognize it as a whistle note, or that there was such a dynamic. This video was incredibly helpful, because I already knew how to do it, and I got it immediately, lol. It's like magic. I hadn't ever thought about using the same technique and reversing the airflow to an exhale. That's so simple and ingenious. The tricky part now is to integrate this register with the soprano register so that the whistle sounds beautiful and resonant, rather than squeaky. Dimash Kudaibergen has mastered this technique to a point where he uses his voice like an instrument (watch his Diva Dance at his Bastau solo concert to see what I mean), and he also does this in his original music Screaming. His performance of Diva Dance also showcases his flawless technique in register transitions. They're absolutely seamless and beautiful!
I want to learn this so I can sing Queen of the Night when my high F is hit or miss and tends to hurt if I try to use it too much. I didn't know there were opera singers that use whistle notes in some of the more extreme arias, but I learned something new today!
Cool! We'd recommend doing some Flageolet work instead of Whistle! Here's more info for you: “Flageolet Explained - Expand Your Vocal Range!” - Ep. 36 Quick Singing Tips Ep. 113 "Expand Your Vocal Range" - Voice Lessons To The World Ep. 111 "Singers: Practice THIS!" - Voice Lessons To The World Keep up the great work! :D -NYVC
I'm a soprano and I recently discovered I could naturally whistle up to an A6. The thing is I'm not able to control my whistles that well, because as I'm new to exploring this part of my register, I'm afraid I may not be doing it the right way and so I could be potentially damaging my chords. Hope this vídeo helps me get better at it❤❤
Oh my goodness, that series of instructions with inhale phonation is gold! I've been trying to access the whistle register on and off for a few years now (mostly off because it always felt tiring and I never got anything more than air and a veeeeery high but faint sound). Second attempt, and I made a clear, high sound I knew I've never felt produced that way before. Thank you!
Thank you so much i was breathing out when whistling and i can barely hit 6th octave. I accidentally hit a Bb7 suddenly after learning to whistle while inhaling. You explain everything in simplest way and in most detail. Best vocal coach channel.
Hundreds and hundreds of performances by Maria Carey using whistle voice and all I keep seeing are comments about that dang Imagine song by Ariana Grande... Smh.

AND btw you look like the young DiCaprio ... as you already know, I guess. I send you all the best from Munich and hope to meet you someday somewhere. Stephanie
I went through 5 different videos on whistle voice and this was the only one that actually got me somewhere and helped me produce my first whistle. Props to you!

Hi Leigh! Try playing around with how much "force" you're using. Often singers will try very hard, use a ton of breath, and tense up a lot when trying this. Consider different amounts of breath and try being gentler. That can help! Good luck! -NYVC
Seriously! I’ve been trying for 2 weeks. I have to sing an E6 and my teacher wants me to try to develop my whistle range so I’ve been watching so many videos and couldn’t get higher than a C6 and I had no idea if I was even doing it right. After watching this I realized I can relatively easily get to a G6 while inhaling sometimes. I still haven’t managed much while exhaling but I’m happy there’s at least a sound. I was kind of hesitant at first but just based on how it feels it seems pretty much like the feeling I’m supposed to be going for and it doesn’t feel very straining which I was kind of worried about. I do feel like I need a bit more air than exhaling but I think I might just not be strong enough yet. I’m very excited though, I don’t know how difficult it will be to change to exhaling but I still have a long way to go in controlling the inhaling so hopefully the muscle memory will help.
Then again, another part of me wants to say that I do it just because I can; it’s very instinctive. It can sound squeaky, but it can also sound crystalline. It is a sort of range expander though.
Not used much, but a serious high when you do it. Only done it in practices, once or twice. Fun as heck. Going low, low, lowwwww is fun too, but no where near the rush of the whistle.
