      Same. When I'm with close friends I'm able to talk louder and my voice is often low(so low that sometimes I do a vocal fry :"| ), but when I'm talking to just random people, it's softer and I strain to go low and loud. But, I sing Alto AND Mezzo Soprano comfortably, soo...

      it is tough to explain the natural voice thing. but trust me! maybe the way you talk ISN'T your natural voice. maybe you talk more nasally or you push your tone too much or you stay very quiet and almost whisper. i would suggest a GOOD vocal teacher. i wished i could recommend you someone, but i only know my own, and i doubt you are able to go to her :(
      honestly, find a good teacher. someone who will help you find your true voice, no style or anything. my teacher is an opera singer, but she sings with her natural voice. i sing pop/ballad songs and she teaches me to sing naturally. you can sing ANY genre with this technique! search for someone like that. trust me, you CAN.

    I have never taken signing training. I used to perform in High school and I was approached to record sings with 2 writers and my own teachers but they always told me to learn to read music and to perfect my voice. That was 20 years ago or more. I still sing at home but just recently have had the desire to perform again. I want to thank you for what you do. I will be following your channel. I never knew what my natural voice was since I would imitate the artists and at times it was hard but I would practice hard to get to their voice but now I will use my own. Thank you!

  • @mysterybug1

    I very accomplished professional singer was asked what was most important in learning to sing. She said, to sing, first you need to learn how to speak. I took her to mean that the singing voice is a natural extension of the speaking voice. You seem to be saying much the same thing. But perhaps she also meant that we may have to overcome faults in our speaking voice, breathing, posture etc. before we could use our speaking voice as the foundation of our singing voice. I thought it was a profoundly important thing to say, but never got to hear the whole story. Thank you Freya for all your lessons. I find them very helpful.

    my voice depends on my emotions :/

    • @squidneythesquid2487
      @squidneythesquid2487 5 лет назад +12

      Singing, especially in theatre _should_ be affected by emotions too, obviously not to a point where no one can understand or hear, but I would never cry in something like Les Miserables, for example, if they were just perfect unemotional notes, you shouldn’t have to be able to speak the language to understand the emotions behind a song. Like in a lot of opera, I can feel the emotions and passion behind the voices, but I can’t speak Italian.

    I've actually been having huge issues with how I feel about my natural voice. My natural voice isn't the style I like, and it kills me. I keep trying to alter it, but my vocals start hurting. This at least helped me recognise the problem, and I'm really thankful for that. I know this video can be really helpful for a lot of people, I even know people that I think would get something out of watching it. Sadly, I still doubt I'll be able to appreciate my natural voice...

    Also, it would really help to have your lessons NUMBERED, not so everyone will always go through them in order, but just so we will know when your are referring to "next Friday," etc. Great approach Freya, so sincere and authentic feeling though sometimes a little too much talking and repetition rathe than examples, exercises, something to DO other than listen. Just my idea, don't mean to be critical. Overall you are one of, if not THE best vocal coach I have encountered. Will probably subscribe but have already paid for another one, which is good too, so will come to you later.

      Nyx Glame tongue is in your throat. Try sticking your tongue out of your mouth and singing for a while. Then try to sing with your tongue back in your mouth.
      And be conscience of if your tongue tries to creep back or stays behind your teeth. Also stop trying to sing low. Your probably trying to sound deeper than you are.

    Thanks for the good advice. It confirms what I discovered recently, I do my best when I sing music in the range and tempo that is suited to my voice. I can sing some bass, but not super low and the same goes for high notes. It is best to sing in the range of our voice. I also do not have a vehicle and get around by bike, including hauling groceries home. My cardiovascular strength is great, and I can sing longer wihout strain and can hold notes as long as some professional singers. My tip is get in good cardiovascular and muscle condition to help improve your singing.

There are certain times when i'm speaking where i do go as high as my singing voice though. Is my speaking voice just too low? Or have i been singing wrong my whole life ;~;

    • @viviennetobassa7111
      @viviennetobassa7111 7 лет назад +15

      I've noted a lot of people who are dominant soprano think or hear themselves with a low voice because they hear the tone from their relaxed larynx but really are just speaking in the bottom end of that range which is using head voice. I recently watched Mariah Carey interview demonstrating whistle register and describing her speaking voice as low, but as she spoke, it was still at bottom end of high register. This doesn't mean that singers can't sing wider range and six octaves with the two extra whistle and fry registers... But their balance point is where their natural voice is and this will also drop with maturity. From the comments you make about when you try to sing low or in your low speaking voice it sounds as if you are trying to sing mixed or chest voice from head voice register. Often when we are kids, culturally as women and for other reasons we learn singing techniques that require us to use the classical intonation of voice which is great for developing pitch, breathing etc. but for women at least it focuses on head voice. If you are naturally lower you may have just learned, deliberately or unconsciously to sing in higher register.

    This is so real. I wasn't formally trained and I took lessons wherever I could randomly find so I went from a male opera singer to another male opera singer to a female who finally told me to sing mezzo soprano cause my range is just darker and lower. Been a long haul

    During puberty, do you think my voice can be completely different after since I'm 14?

    • @wyattduford2338
      @wyattduford2338 8 лет назад +8

      It really depends sometimes it will change only a little and other times it changes a lot.

      it can stay the same if you practice..for me I practice anime songs everyday...and I can sing close to the same range of a female's high pitch

      yeah puberty can cause changes, obviously if you're a guy it can be quite dramatic, for girls it can be subtle or dramatic depending on the person. The biggest thing I noticed after puberty (as a woman) was that the higher notes were more difficult for me. Your voice also continues to change and mature as you age gradually. My voice is lower and richer at 36 than it was in my twenties.
