- Join me for a Bastille Day party in France! Somewhere between a cocktail party and a grazing dinner party the "Apero Dinatoire" is another way to entertain in France. But can it be done with mostly frozen food?!

Ooh we have Picard in Japan. I was there actually not long ago but I too was suspicious despite so many people recommending them. But you have convinced me Beth! I will give them a try next time. May have to save up for the Tokyo prices but gosh they look delicious! We just had yet another birthday and another Beth's Chocolate Birthday cake yesterday. Wonderful as always!

You've just confirmed all my reasons for loving living in France. They may be bureaucratic in lots of ways, but they certainly know how to enjoy themselves, and especially how to organise big festive communal beanos. Picard is very good, and even every little village has a first class bakery, with patisserie to die for.
So glad the convenience foods worked out. The fireworks were the perfect reward for all your hard work shopping, prepping, serving.

I love Picard! My husband grew up eating lots of their food. My mother in las nickname is madame Picard. We have Picard shortly im Switzerland but sadly they didn’t survive long
I have an island home across from Hilton Head SC and this is how we watch fireworks from the beach…no traffic, just jump on your golf cart afterwards and go home. It truly is the best❤

Love, love, love your videos!!! You are so right. This type of party is still a lot of work. I did it for my Mother in law's 90th birthday, but once everything was served, I was able to enjoy and mingle with our guests. 🎉😅.

Ha! I know I love this house, because we designed it knowing what all the issues are in the LA house! So it's like a second chance to fix all the disfunction in that kitchen and house ha!

In my house we have what we call a Nosher's Run which is basically a collection of store bought snacks and appetizers that we can graze as we like. This reminds me of that but on an upper scale. I like that this is a reminder that you can find some really good store bought foods that save you time, if not always money. Sometimes you can save both. Sometimes it is worth going to the upper end markets to find those special items that your regular markets don't carry.

Yay! Thank you for hosting another party. Although I feel guilty for asking you to host more because of how time consuming they are. It turned out great! Really jealous of how accessible great and quality foods are in France. I enjoyed the video. Excited for more videos from you in France! :)

You are an amazing hostess, and both of your homes are so perfect for entertaining. Orly (spelling?) is a terrific assistant. Your family seems so cohesive and loving. I was in Paris for Bastille Day in 2005 and it was quite the celebration (and super hot that day). After my week in Paris, I joined my sister and her family in the Loire Valley where they were enjoying a house swap with a French family. We loved shopping at Le Clerk, but I don't recall Picard. In Idaho, where I now live, we have long days like you do in France, and we must stay up quite late in order to enjoy the fireworks on the 4th of July. It's kind of hard to get used to!

My husband and I watched fireworks right next to the pentagon this year. Figured it was better than actually trying to get into DC! We were lucky to get a parking spot at all, but it took 3 hours for us to move more than 10 ft trying to get out! 🤣 that beach show looked amazing!

In London you can get Picard frozen food delivered from the grocery store. It is my favourite go to for dinner when having a busy day! I'm sure it's due to the Lycee being down the street.

Great vlog to see as I am having guests for lunch in two weeks and due to back issues can’t stand and cook. Wish I had Picard here to help but think Trader Joe’s and Costco will do.

Apero Dinatoire, my kind of party food! It's like the French equivalent of Chinese Dim Sum. I often do parties full of Trader Joe's Frozen, fresh and prepared foods. So convenient, easy and delicious. I also add a few of my favorite recipes too. If Picard was in my area of the US, I be so all over that place! Thanks for taking us along and of course for sharing your great entertaining ideas and tips.

LOL! Aww so glad you enjoyed it! These summer French vlogs are such a fun little creative vacation for me, from the regular recipe content. Because I can shoot them all with my phone, and edit them on my phone too! Ha! And it's also fun to tell the little stories along with the tips and tricks too! So glad you enjoyed it!
We do love Picard here in France. And you can absolutely trust the frozen pâtisseries too there. My advice: have all of it defrost in the fridge during the day, il will cook quicker and more evenly.
The pain surprise are a nightmare to defrost, put it in the fridge tha day before. My favorite: the accras (abroad section) in the air fryer.
Oh my yes the accras! We buy them at Hyper U as the man fries them up, and then gobble them up on the car ride home ha! They are SO good! Next time will look for the frozen ones at Picard! Yes I bet they are great in the air fryer!!
The fireworks were beautiful! All of that food, it's amazing that it was frozen or refrigerated. I've never seen anything like it. (I live in Southern California too)
I LOVE frozen foods. I think it’s an amazing way to preserve and distribute food. In fact, I like to imagine that one day I’d work for a frozen foods association…. assuming there is such a thing.

Beth, this kind of party is fun and can be done any time if you have a good stack freezer, thank you for sharing your ideas. On the same line, you could try to do one with preserved foods, if you have a pantry with preserved food and some whipped cream in the fridge, you can make a beautiful meal including the dessert. Just one visit to the Carrefour preserved food aisle and you are all set! And, as a side note, could you share with me where you got your dining room table? It is exactly the kind I am looking for. Thank you!
Aww so glad you enjoyed it! We actually had the table custom made because we couldn't find anything this long and we really wanted a table that could seat 16! So it was just easier to have one made to the exact dimensions we wanted :)

Now Picard- Picard is also great to cut on prep time for vegetables , fantastic to make a minestrone without having to wash and dice all the vegetables. And frozen rhubarb for crumbles anytime….I do miss Picard to stock my freezer with basic ingredients. Looking forwards to your next video !

AMAZING and beautiful! You are right about appetizers being more work even when premade and/ or store bought. I much rather serve a simple cheese board, a big lasagna, salad and garlic bread. Cheesecake for dessert and call it a day. It would have helped if everyone brought an appetizer and their own platter. Never let men decide on how to entertain. 🤪 😂 You went thru so much more work!

Right?! I think it is less work and I dare to say less expensive too! But everybody had a great time and it was fun just to try it on for size so that I can say I’ve done it the next time my husband brings up the idea! I have evidence to point to that a dinner party is way easier. Ha ha ha!

Great party Beth! I was hoping you would be posting videos from your beautiful beach house again. And, for the record, there is no such thing as a 'no fuss' party. Ha ha! It was so funny when you gave into temptation and grabbed the fresh grape leaves to adorn the cheese platter and decided to skewer the cheese cubes.
