Literally should have had deck 3/4 switches and a slightly bigger screen and it would have been damn near perfect. I have no clue why they made this without that.
One note - kindly sent to me by the guys at Crossfader (go watch their really detailed first look too) - you can change to decks 3 and 4 in Rekordbox via a shift function. So that’s good news. EDIT: This is when using Rekordbox in Performance mode. Standalone playback is always restricted to 2 decks only
Wait what??? This has not been made clear on any of the other reviews I’ve seen, defo a bonus for those who want to upgrade to this with an eye to adding a third CDJ later but want three or four deck capability out of the box.. if I’m reading this correctly?

But still it does seem that if you are connected via Rekordbox you can still use the screen on the unit and the platter display to select tunes and monitor info. So aside from the laptop being connected and using the shift button it would be like a standalone controller experience - again, as a contingency for those who cannot add another unit for a while. Or am i off here. Even better if it was possible to use the export mode connection so you could just close the laptop. I checked out the review from Crossfader that Mojaxx mentioned above and its clear that at once you are connected via Rekordbox you can use the screen on the unit and the platter display to select tunes and monitor info and can not have to look at the laptop at all and use the shift to switch decks on the player. Not sure about that. Denon's software is still catching up; along with their mixer section on the Prime 4. This new Pioneer mixer section is top notch. Both have pros and cons I guess. I hope in 2020 both companies make next-level standalones with all the bells and whistles. I want a standalone so bad but neither one is completely blowing me away right now.
well, heard the rumors about a standalone ddj 1000 very early, looks great from the outside but it´s by far not what i expected. I did wait quite a long time for the standalone version but I will now go ahead and get the ddj 1000, way cheaper and still very close to a cdj+djm setup. and it even has a full standalone mixer. pretty sad to see that pioneer did something like that with the denon prime 4 existing. But at least you get full size jogs and pioneer effects

Can two djs use this running Serato of their laptops? From the looks of it I only saw one USB input. If I was at a gig with another DJ can we run our sets back to back seamlessly without having to completely stop the music and change over from one laptop to the other?
Can you use Rekordbox Hotcues on Denon Prime 4? I mean will they even show up upon loading since the HotCues are made in a Pioneer software? If not I cannot use Denon and must stick with Pioneer cause I am not going to Re-organize Hot Cues in thousands of songs in my library.
agreed, it's built like a tank compared to the prime 4, which feels like a toy...also people underestimate how important it is for some people to have full sized mechanical jog wheels...guaranteed 3% of the people complaining about the 2 usb vs 4 mixer channels can aptly mix more than 2 tracks at a time anyway. This is basically an nx2 setup for 5 grand less, people should be rejoicing...but whatevs...excited to get mine.
Soooo whats the differneces between this and the rx2 besides being able to hook up cdjs in 2 extra channels that u cant use standalone? I was really hoping this would push the market of what denon and reloop and rane are doing and makes all the big dogs steps thier games up and give use some amazing dj gear but this seems like a really watered down response to the prime 4. They could have at least match the prime 4 feature for feature rather than give us less for more money. I was excited for the product quality war but this is just a lazy effort
As an RX2 user I have to say I was let down when I found out it wasn’t 4 channel standalone, as I would’ve definitely upgraded if it were. With that in mind though, I understand that if pioneer would’ve made this a full 4 channel standalone system, they would’ve killed their CDJ/DJM sales.
Numark should come out with Ns74 now is perfect timing. Ns74 with standalone features, new dashboard with touchscreen plus inboard effects will be amazing. Gator plastic type case will be cool to reduced weight for ns74 with gator arm for laptop.
I just bought this controller, Ive always used turntables, and Cdj nexus. But I bought this so if they want me to play at someone small, I can just bring this and usb sticks, i don't play with laptops. I have a question regarding the 4 deck option when using rekordbox/serato. Say you want to do a triple drop as follows: Deck 1: Track = 100 BPM | Pitch = 0% Deck 2: Track = 110 BPM | Pitch = ~-9.9% to match to 100 BPM Deck 3: Track = 100 BPM | Pitch = 0% I'd beatmatch Deck 1 with Deck 3 both with the pitch control at 0%, then I'd switch to deck 2 using the shift button and adjust the pitch control to -9.9%. Now if I want to slightly adjust deck 1 and switch back to Deck 1, will the bpm immediatly switch to 91 instead of 100 because the pitch slider is down at -9.9% for deck2?
I honestly hate that they didn't add any b2b features for laptop DJs (although I am mostly on USB sticks). For such a big and expensive unit Pioneer sort of missed the mark. The Prime 4 is the total package, minus a few things such as linking external players and the Master EQ which is cool, but can otherwise do a whole hell of a lot more at a more affordable price.
Prime 4 for is a toy for amateurs who has all the time in the world to wait for the next update that will make it work as expected, and who can spend an unimaginable amount of time to get the preparations for your music done, working and ready to play, without a number of different things that will make your collections unplayable. I bought in to the hype and spend the $1800 dollar on the P 4, and I've never gone from hyped up to angry and disappointed so fast in my entire 51 year old life. What a piece of s**t. When you realize it doesn't have the basic expected functions that you need to play, and have relied on since the first cd-players came out in the early 90's, and then discover that the 10'' screen shows less info in browse mode than the old first gen CDJ-2000, have the worst Jog wheel you've ever experienced, has hidden commands to switch waveform layout you need RUclips to find out how to do, has the worst software ever made for preparing music... and to really hit you in your face when you realize that the whole effect sections is disabled for all and every external player you hook up, except for the filter (how generous...) ...and you had to wait 3 months to even get your hands on that $1800 brick. And yes, I watched and read every review made, including MOJAXX, before I put my order in and no one mentioned anything about any of those draw backs. Despite I only used it long enough to discover I can't use it, took $400 off the new price, it took me + 3 months to get rid of it, and it wasn't even in stock or on the shelves yet. The hype wasn't as big as I thought it was, obviously. A colleague of mine got the XDJ-XZ yesterday and used it on his first gig with it a couple of hours later. That's how it's supposed to work with new tools made for pro use. For us they're money makers, period! MOJAXX said it, centerpiece. It's exactly how this will work. Out of the box it's like any Nexus/NXS2 2 player/4 ch mixer setup that's in 98% of all DJ booths already, and with almost the same connectivity as a stand-alone mixer, different DJ's can hook up anything they need to perform, without loosing the functionality of the mixer. That's the exact roll of a centerpiece in a DJ booth.
I have 2 xdj1000mk2 and a djm 450, I got it with the intention of replicating a club setup at home but I want 4 channels (or at least 3) and I don't ever plan on dropping 6k+ for a Nexus setup. Should I wait for pioneer to drop something new considering they just got bought out or sell my 450 and one xdj and get this?
3:45 Any XZ user please help, my friend recently got a XDJ XZ and while trying it I noticed that Tracks from the USB weren't getting displayed in larger format (it was fine with serato & rekordbox ) I thought the interaction would be easy and direct, I am not a pro Pioneer User. I tried looking for solutions but failed . Suggesting him a firmware update but Seems like we are missing something easy.
So it's a 1/2 in 1. Really annoyed as they were so bloody close with this one, But no they had to go the Apple & EA route. "Oh, you want all of the features? Here buy these to add to it." With this, I've made the move to Prime 4, Couldn't be happier.
The comments in this thread are weird, I think a lot of you obviously don't care about the following: -build quality -full sized jogs -quality software -pro-style layout and functionality -better mixer FX, and EQs -ability to link with other pro gear For these reasons and the price (it is 5 grand cheaper than an nx2 setup) I have already pre-ordered this controller which I have waited YEARS to come out.
Hi, can I ask you something . I love all this DJ equipment, all the players, and i want to bye some of these. I ask, is it possible on some of these dj players to autoplay all songs in the usb, with auto adjust and sync tempo on fixed value, auto mix crossfade like 4 sec mix time, and use the player like ordinary mp3 player ? I am not DJ but I am crazy about these players and want to play at home.
Is there any practical difference between the master eq and an Isolator like those made by Bozure or featured on the Rane MP2015? could this be used in an expressive way while mixing? Great review as always
I wondered the same initially, but it's not a full cut - and there's no option to make it so in the settings either. So you could use it in that way up to a point, but it's not the same as a proper isolator.
I got my hands on a Prime 4 at Guitar Center the other day finally...holy crap what a joke...the thing is a toy. Build quality obviously doesn't matter to some people...let alone size (the thing is a controller for ants imo). For those of us who are used to performing live on an nx2 setup (which should be a lot of us if you're more than a hobbiest) this controller is the answer...and a very affordable one at that.
@@darsure3006 That's not what I've heard. Across the board it has had praise. Engine Prime is it's only short fall. This unit only offers half of what the Prime does for less money.... You couldn't be more wrong.

Also, it offers half how? 98% of the DJs out there don't actually ever mix more than 2 tracks competently...outside of that this is basically an nx2 setup...the mixer is better than the mixer in the prime 4, the jog wheels are a no-contest, the beat pads are bigger, and the FX are better. Sorry but I don't think I'm wrong at all. Do you play out a lot? When I play out there is almost always an nx2 setup there, and this controller is basically the same thing but for thousands less. @@apexpredator_jku I've played both pioneer and denon kit a lot and I can say that the denon build quality is just as good, if not better, than the pionneer stuff. Not saying that pioneer is bad, it's not, but the denon stuff just offers a lot more for much less money. Just try It out yourself and you'll love it. The only thing that's holding it back is engine prime but they are working on that and it's improved a lot over the last couple of years. I really believe that denon is gonna become the new industry standard if pioneer doesn't finally start improving their products.
I’m not sure if it would be a waste upgrading to the xz but it would definitely be a waste getting the rx2 when you already have the original. There’s not enough extra features on the rx2 to make it worth your while.
I have the RX2 ….so jump to the XZ if not for only the 7" platters and the master out EQ and the option to connect cdj , etc. I have played around on prime 4 it feels very cheep compared to pioneer. yes I would like a bigger screen but the prime 4 screen crap and even the way it is attatched is crap.
@@alancahill1 agreed on the prime 4, it feels like a toy...I would say the biggest difference between this and the rx2 is the full sized jog wheels...for me that is a HUGE deal so I'm defo going XZ
Hi One really important question for me. Is there any possibility to connect Pioneer RMX 1000 station to XDJ-XZ in same way like for example to DJM 900NXS2 ?? I would like to take full advantage of its possibilities.
In a word no. For it to be fully functional you need a send/return. There's a way you can run it over the master but this means you're effecting both tracks at once rather than being able to isolate it to one channel. Not good at all. limits it very much.
@vito G my buddy has the rx2 he loves it you could never go wrong with either. I’m yet to read about the functionality regarding 4 decks on serato other than that though I believe this controller is better
There is something important that i think is not clear. The soundcard, so the audio quality, I reed that in the xdj xz is not 24bits/192khz, so the audio quiality of the equipment is not equal to a cdj nexus setup. That is the only thing that keeps me wondering if I wan't to buy it or not.
I'm pretty sure it has Deck 3+4 switches on the touchscreen somewhere if running via rekordbox DJ - so it should function as a typical 4 channel controller that way
I appreciate this was a quick look, but this just doesn’t seem exciting. The Denon Prime stuff has been out a few years now and I’d still pick that over this. Even the Prime4 seems more exciting, even if this has slightly better features
I agree it's really dumb to bury it like that. If you want to just throw in some scratching in an otherwise traditional mix it's really nice to be able to change the curve whenever you want easily. I guess you can just use the line faders to mix and keep the fader set to cut mode if you know you'll be doing it.
this is the big deciding factor for me...because the denon sc5000Ms + x1800 bundle are on sale for $1000 off right now, I'm actually going to try them first and see how much I like them, might not go with the XZ after all, if only due to the fact that the xfader is not interchangeable...nor is it magvel...which is absolutely baffling...I could even cope with the 2 channels thing, but the crappy xfader on such a nice controller is really a shame
Exactly, if you’re going to buy this unit only to use the 2 channels standalone and the other 2 with a laptop. Then you’re better off buying the SRT or 1000. If you already own cdjs, instead of buying a djm 900 mixer, you’re better off buying this unit .
@@Alex121sm1 I use both CDJs(recordbox USB) in club and Serato at times, I like the option to get my USB access at home, so this works for me, no chance Im buying a full CDJ setup so this is best for me.

I'd beatmatch Deck 1 with Deck 3 both with the pitch control at 0%, then I'd switch to deck 2 using the shift button and adjust the pitch control to -9.9%. Now if I want to slightly adjust deck 1 and switch back to Deck 1, will the bpm immediatly switch to 91 instead of 100 because the pitch slider is down at -9.9% for deck2?

I tried looking for solutions but failed . Suggesting him a firmware update but Seems like we are missing something easy.
pardon the stupid question but what model is that techniques turntable where your scratching?
hi , would these pioneer xdj-xz support and play usb 3.1 256gb or 512gb like sandisk or kingston usb
If I plug a USB Drive in to the XZ, can I access the tunes on connected CDJ2000s? Providing they are linked of course.
Love your reviews bro, good job 👏
Can someone explain why I can't use my XDJ XZ as a standalone even if the tracks got already analyzed by Rekordbox??
So it's a 1/2 in 1. Really annoyed as they were so bloody close with this one, But no they had to go the Apple & EA route. "Oh, you want all of the features? Here buy these to add to it." With this, I've made the move to Prime 4, Couldn't be happier.
In 10 years time pioneer be making the XXJ-XX
I'm looking forward to the xdj-xxx
I would appreciate if you could make a video with the XDJ-XZ & DJS-1000 Sampler hooked together and using @ least 3 channel in Standalone mode ;-)
how did you get the dj city logo in the middle of the platter displays?
Add album art to your songs.
Do you think it’s possible to midi map a button to make it possible to switch from deck 1,2 to deck 3,4?
The comments in this thread are weird, I think a lot of you obviously don't care about the following:
-build quality
-full sized jogs
-quality software
-pro-style layout and functionality
-better mixer FX, and EQs
-ability to link with other pro gear
For these reasons and the price (it is 5 grand cheaper than an nx2 setup) I have already pre-ordered this controller which I have waited YEARS to come out.
Nice review. So no Sample pads? Seems a tad bit strange, especially for future Serato users who maybe be used to other controllers or SP1 for example
@DJcityTV. . . Can this controller record your mixes internally? Just asking in general
With a usb stick yes.
Mojaxx Ah I thought that might be the case, could be a handy tool nonetheless! Cheers
Am I wrong in thinking the extension port could also be used for the DJS-1k?? One could have 4 decks running and then the DJS via the aux in??
Quite possibly. That integration is something I’ll have to investigate thoroughly.
Do the feet adjust or they just for aesthetics just it just sit on the base of unit
Hey Mo, would be awesome if the Master EQ‘s could be handled like Isolaters EQ‘s on analouge Rotary Mixers.
Denon Prime 4 all the way.
@@hyperfocus4866 'not what I've heard' lol...I've owned a ddj-sz and I have actually played on a prime 4...so I think it's actually you who are dead wrong and basing your bullshit opinion on hearsay, seeing as how you've never even played on one.
Prime 4 just doesn't have the build quality.
@@darsure3006 damn near 2020 and Pioneer fanboys still regurgitating the same Denon bashing BS...I feel like I'm reading DJforum threads from 2004...Pioneer fanboys still can't come to terms that Pioneer is no longer the "industry standard" they once were.
The same person reviewing this kit is the same person that praised the build quality of the Prime 4 yet you want to call out others for "hearsay".
Can you use effects apps on a iPad for instance connected through the usb?
Fantastic Unit. I live Doing with Pioneer gears.
I have the first xdj-rx and ive been thinking of upgrading
You guys think would be a waste of money? Should i just get an rx 2?
I’m not sure if it would be a waste upgrading to the xz but it would definitely be a waste getting the rx2 when you already have the original. There’s not enough extra features on the rx2 to make it worth your while.
It would be a waste if you brought anyone of these when you can get a prime 4 if u don't already have one ijs
Rx2 bro!!
@@alancahill1 agreed on the prime 4, it feels like a toy...I would say the biggest difference between this and the rx2 is the full sized jog wheels...for me that is a HUGE deal so I'm defo going XZ
What's the best way to connect a DJS1000 to this unit for full integration?
Hi
One really important question for me.
@@bgstemcd Thanks A lot
why do my track start directly when I load it to a deck? do you know how I can change that ? thx
Also , your quick thoughts on .. im torn between xdj rx2 to this ?.
@vito G my buddy has the rx2 he loves it you could never go wrong with either. I’m yet to read about the functionality regarding 4 decks on serato other than that though I believe this controller is better
they should have started with the layer button on the CDJ3000 so when they release an all in one standalone, they can make it a standalone 4 channels.
How do you customize the artwork in the center display, I’m having trouble getting that to change on a CDJ1000
Im using rekordbox, guessing thats the only way to get it to work
Also have LiveDJ, DJayPRO2, Sereto
@@brandongoeckner6602 how did you get an XZ already? if retail can you tell me who has them already?
Can the effects be used on the phone channels? Cheers
I think it has the same soundcard as the ddj 1000
@@signsofthetimes886 I think is a bit better, i read is 96khz/24bits, the ddj1000 i think is 48khz/24bits
@@joaquinbenabentos they're both 24bit/44.1khz according to sweetwater.com
Ultimate controller, real nice
When will you do a full review on the DDJ-800?
Can I use and iPad Pro with record box to control all 4 channels?
Is there screen-lagging? Like the RX2 sometimes seems to be having...
Right? Mine does the same. I was hoping a firmware update would fix it but nothing so far...
I'm pretty sure it has Deck 3+4 switches on the touchscreen somewhere if running via rekordbox DJ - so it should function as a typical 4 channel controller that way
dubble press shift apparently
I think id still go with the SRT since i use serrate mainly.
jog wheels are 8 in not 7 in
What is better the xdj - xz vs rzx pioneers flagship
All I can say is really pioneer
Is Serato DJ working on it yet?
I appreciate this was a quick look, but this just doesn’t seem exciting. The Denon Prime stuff has been out a few years now and I’d still pick that over this. Even the Prime4 seems more exciting, even if this has slightly better features
2.200€!? Just get a prime 4
The only thing i like about this controller are the jog wheels but yes i'll take the denon it's a pity i don't DJ anymore
IAM selling my s8 for the Denon.
Michael I switched from an s4 to the Prime 4 as well, can only recommend it!
@@peterpeter5214 sold the moment I looked into it Peter...IAM impressed thank you.
I agree!! Prime 4 it is
pioneer. getting over!
Is this a hint at what the XDJ-2000 Nexus x will look like?
that will never ever ever ever ever be a thing. Think about it for two seconds, an nx2 setup costs 5 grand more than this
Dar Sure thus why I am in the market for an Denon DJ SC5000m.
I'm throwing my nexus 2 and buying this masterpiece
Really ?! 😱
Same
so will this have 4 deck support for serato dj ?
It has
can you zoom in on waveforms on this?
You can with the browser nob
When playing off laptop ..can u use 4 channels?
Yes. Tap Shift button to switch between the channels.
BAGUS BANGET MANTAP. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Dvs only on channels 1 and 2 makes no sense, this setup with pair of turntables makes the jog wheels useless
Does it work with VIRTUAL DJ ??
Denon Prime 4 is the winner here! Way more bang 4 the buck!
I miss the Sampler function of the pad.
Is it is stand alone?? Add two more external decks you have 4 Channels no computer? Is that right?
Leigh Janes no only 2 stand alone decks 😕
Rico Russo is the two external inputs cannot be used with two more CDJs while using channel 1 and 2 in stand alone? That can’t be right surly?
Leigh Janes channel 3&4 you can use with external gear. The sequence is 3,1,2,4 like mostly used in EU
I dont know if its possible to use stand alone and external @ the same time but it would be ridiculuos 🙈
Leigh Janes as far as i could see on pictures it must be possible
I've heard of inferior products being cheaper but Pioneer have it the other way around 🤣🤣🤣
I thought I was the only one who noticed that lol
Not sure I see the point of having the option to add vinyl decks but not be able to use them alongside the CDJ's.
i change crossfader curve all the time they should have put a nob on the front
I agree it's really dumb to bury it like that. If you want to just throw in some scratching in an otherwise traditional mix it's really nice to be able to change the curve whenever you want easily. I guess you can just use the line faders to mix and keep the fader set to cut mode if you know you'll be doing it.
no magvell fader?? why??
this is the big deciding factor for me...because the denon sc5000Ms + x1800 bundle are on sale for $1000 off right now, I'm actually going to try them first and see how much I like them, might not go with the XZ after all, if only due to the fact that the xfader is not interchangeable...nor is it magvel...which is absolutely baffling...I could even cope with the 2 channels thing, but the crappy xfader on such a nice controller is really a shame
Actually kinda glad I didn't go for the 1000 SRT, this looks nice.
If you spin with ur laptop the 1000 srt is a better choice. Cheaper & 4 channel use at once
@@Alex121sm1 The 1000 isn't a standalone controller. It requires a laptop to work. If you already own CDJs, why would you buy this?
Jupiter Son thanks for telling me something I already knew 😂 I own the ddj 1000.
Pioneer still flogging a dead horse as usual. No new features, just the same again and again...
Denon will take over hopefully
It's kinda ridiculous that even XDJ-RR (~1/2 the price) can do 2 ch stand-alone and 4 ch in RB control mode
but this can run on recordbox and serato...ive got a traktor s8 is a wicked machine but I don't often use all 4 channels...I mix dnb by the way
@@hogard2992i can't wait
