Considered this but went for the Prime 4... and very glad I did! Kept my old entry Sb3 for prepping music with Serato but have fully embraced Engine Prime & transfered all music to both SD & flash drive. Adding music is more work in that I download, categorise on laptop, add to Serato, analyse, set cue points/loops & adjust autogain if necessary. Then, open EP & update Serato library, analyse new files individually by dropping onto decks (which sets grid & retains Serato cue points/loops), drag into P4 crates & then save to SD... before backing up onto a USB flash drive. Time consuming but in the flow of my new system but best of all, no fear of any laptop issues/crashes and audio drop outs. Despite a designated & high end DJ Windows laptop which was fully optimised, I still didn't like Windows 10 & how certain updates are forced... especially with all the bodge jobs that Microsoft are dishing up of late. The Denon Prime 4 is robust & a great unit with better technology than the XZ. I am glad I couldn't get the XZ because the back order (with Corona virus) has been pushed back to July 2020... D likely even longer. 4 channels, a 10 inch fantastic touchscreen and laptop-free standalone P4 us a no-brainer. Bye-bye Pioneer.
@@gelatinous6915 yes, I tested Prime 4 in the shop for about 10 minutes and right player freezed 3 times :-( But otherwise love the Prime 4 display, aluminium body, waveforms resolution (also can read much more from Denon waveform colors , than useless Pioneer ones),.

The jogs are perfectly fine for non-turntablists, the fx layout is different not outdated and the crossfader works like every other on a club mixer and can be easily replaced with an InnoFader, but again, this unit is not for scratch DJs, and the XZ still sucks.

That is how their gear is obsolete!
the nexus 2 gear is for clubs and large venues, that's why they overcharge for it. professional gear is always kind of overpriced because the market they cater to is willing to pay the price. sure you can play a fully competent DJ set on a small controller, but nothing beats playing on a full sized mixer and decks even if you are running dj software

I was wondering if you or any of your viewers have had this issue with the XDJ Xz. My Hot cues, for a song, will trigger my four top pads as hot cues. But the bottom four pads will trigger my samples. This only happens on deck 2. Deck one will trigger all eight Hot Cues for a song. But not deck 2. I just purchased my XDJ XZ a couple days ago. I'm pretty sure it's something minor I touched. Does anyone know what I need to do to get my bottom four pads back to hot cues again? Thanks in advance
great review thank you ! the unit has no sampler right ? i currently have a sx3 and use the sampler banks for dj drops etc - whats the work around for this ? if any ? really like the idea of the standalone which is what i am looking to move to - thanks
so basically if you plug in a computer, it will work as expected as a 4 channel unit? no need to look at a laptop screen for loading either so you can just keep it tucked away
Okay.....I'm very confused. This is a 4 channel. I saw you tap shift twice to switch between decks 1 and 3. But we can only use two decks? No virtual switching to make deck 1 deck 3 and deck 2 into deck 4? I'm outgrowing my current set up (which is a RANE ONe) and want the ability to spin 4 decks. Is this the set up for me? If not, what do you recommend?
Great review of this unit. I cant see a small bar or venue NOT getting this. I would love to see this everywhere,, really. Any DJ can use it. that is a big plus
As someone who owns a Prime 2 and an XZ, I don't understand why people have to come out and say that the Prime 4 is better. Pioneer heads love Pioneer. Denon heads love Denon. Just make great mixes, folks!
So how are we looking 10 months later. I'm toying with the idea of this or the prime 4, the freezing issue puts me off the Denon. Or is there any speculation about another similar controller which could incorporate the plus points from the prime. I hate having to make a choice and not being able to get to a dealers for a hands on look
Prime 4 all the way for me, all those freezing issues have been sorted via firmware updates, the streaming capability with Wi-fi connectivity and true 4 channel stand alone whether you’re streaming, using Serato or using usb, SD, Sata…no brainer…
If it’s like any other CDJ or XDJ Ive ever used, you’ll need to analyse your tracks in Rekordbox in Export mode then sync them to your USB drive to get waveforms, instant BPMs and the ability to sync
In order to display tracking wave forms on the display, do the tracks need to be analysed by Rekordbox? Or could I plug a USB straight in (that has not been analysed) and then the XZ will analysed & display waveforms?
How does it sound with playing vinyl on turntables? Is it the same quality as the DJM mixers? I have had issues with sound on the cheaper pioneer controllers like the SX2.
This or prime 4? I have the Rane 72 and my issue is that the line channel limits a bit to soon. Is there a firmware update to fix this? I hope so is driving crazy.
I love my XDJ-XZ so far the problem is I am trying to use it in export mode over ethernet on my 2019 Macbook pro using a USB type C Ethernet adaptor but it does not show as connected after I downloaded the right drivers. Am I doing something wrong?
I’m afraid you’ll need to contact Pioneer DJ support on that. It did work straight away with my (older) MacBook Pro. Are you definitely on the latest Firmware and Rekordbox version? That’s what I’d check first.
Small clubs / bars seem to be going for the Prime4 from what ive seen. 2 Of my local bars recently got Prime4's for their main kit. Ive not used one myself yet but keep hearing good things. And you can drop your reckordbox usb keys in and it just reads them !.
Yes, but is most likely that your beat grids will be off. Engine Prime is not that good. I have sold my Prime4 because of this. I will buy the XZ when they are in stock
Slightly weird question. There is essentially no difference between active and passive speakers. One has amps externally one has amps internally. Makes no difference as far as decks or controllers go. You can plug anything into anything in that sense. So you can run 50w active speakers, 2000w active speakers, or a 10,000w amp rack and passive speakers. Balanced XLR outputs are present so all good.
@@DJ.GoldenGlory I don’t think you understand as no dj mixer or decks have amplifiers. Not sure what you mean. So what is all about this standalone mixer? You’re not making any sense. No mixer or standalone unit is “supported” for massive speakers or active speakers only. That’s your misunderstanding of music gear. Active speakers can be small or massive. So what’s your real question?
@@willpolr i think you don’t understand at all , i have yamaha mixer with amplifier and i connected them to passive speakers, so do you understand my question now??? I don’t think so
@@DJ.GoldenGlory well it’s going to be hard for me to understand until you give me the bloody facts like you just did mate! Ffs. So you have what’s called a POWERED mixer. I definitely understand. I’ve been a DJ for over 30 years and owned a sound system also. I understand. You’re just not very good at asking a bleedin question mate!
Connect the XZ to your laptop via usb or the 'EXTENSION' lan port. Then open the rekordbox software - switch to export mode using the drop-down menu in the top left corner. On the bottom left of the screen a 'link' button should appear. Click that. Now you can either drag tracks onto the deck icons on your pc to load them, or you can hit the rekordbox button on the xz to browse your library ;) Edit: I think you may have to press the 'REKORDBOX' button first on the unit in order for the link button to appear in the software.
Claiming this technology is on par with the nexus 2 a piece of kit released in 2016 is a worry. I'm sure it is nice to play on but pioneer has shown they will never be 'pioneers' again.
There is something important that i think is not clear. The soundcard, so the audio quality, I reed that in the xdj xz is not 24bits/192khz, so the audio quiality of the equipment is not equal to a cdj nexus setup. That is the only thing that keeps me wondering if I wan't to buy it or not.
You can still send audio through channels 3 & 4 from Serato DJ Pro when using standalone, but you won’t have any control unless you switch the unit over to it, one side at a time. So the answer to your question is... kinda... but not really.
@@Mojaxx if you had a usb track playing out on 1 or 2 you cant easily use 3 and 4 for things like Tidal or mass library that you wouldn't load to usb? Thanks for your help and effort!

Hello. I have seen a lot of comments of Pioneer and Denon. Mates not everyone like beer some of us like wine soo it will be always like this. DENON AND PIONEER are like lamborgini and ferrari both are good but in the end both have defects.
A whole controller for almost the price of a single CDJ? I'm sold. Currently have the DDJ 1000, but want the standalone. I am trying to hold out though until they make this with 4 channel standalone. However Pioneer will probably tack on another $250 per channel. I am a loyal Pioneer fanboy, but they need to learn a few things from Denon.
I like to throw acapellas in some my mixes, and a third and fourth channel are handy for that purpose. Or if you are transitioning between two or three songs in a very short time. Really just depends on DJ style. I'd put that new six channel mixer through the motions if I could afford it lol.
Please help guys, I got my unit today and when I’m mixing a 150 bpm song with a 70 bpm song and press sync it will sync the 70 bpm track to 150 like the other one instead of doing 75bpm..... please help, it’s so annoying :( it should stay at half and not boost the track to the limit. I should also mention that I’m using the unit fully in stand alone mode with just an usb drive
Regarding export mode not working on your Windows machine. This was an issue for me, turns out that AnyDesk was overriding the networking functions of Rekordbox, quitting AnyDesk fixes the problem.
DJcityTV: buys Pioneer Standalone Flagship for $2200 with build in premium software and full support to play the club standard. Also DJcityTV: Uses Serato on it... Why?
dude I know....why the fuck would you buy this to plug a laptop into it? there are tons of awesome serato controllers out there for like...1/4 of the price.
I think when you’re looking at pictures online this and the DDJ-1000 seem like a great idea, and the RX2 looks pretty bad in pictures with its goofy little wheels. But the first (and only) controller I ever bought was the DDJ-1000, and those jog wheels are really stupid. In person it is REALLY obvious that they just put cheap phone screens in the jog wheels and masked off the edges to make it more round. There’s no info on the screens that isn’t already right in front of you (whether you’re talking about the DDJ-1000 or the XZ). They’re not touchscreens so you can’t needle search. There’s just no point. But I really like using 3 decks and it sure would be cool to only need to carry the XZ and one CDJ with you to have 3 decks ... but I just think those screens in the wheels are so silly. And honestly my RX2 is such a big heavy chunk of hardware I really don’t think it’s much more convenient than taking three trips to get CDJs and a mixer ... except then you also need a buncha cables. I guess I really don’t even know how I feel. And that main 7” screen ... well ... it’s nice that it has a real CDJ screen, but then it’s not really the same at all because they’re mashing the UI together to have two tracks on one screen. I wish they’d just make an RX2 which had two 7” CDJ screens instead of one shared one. Then it’d actually feel like regular equipment. And if the XZ had two 7” screens and let you plug in a 3rd CDJ I’d probably own one. But then I’d drop it trying to carry it to my car. So nevermind.

Hi. How do you set the blue waves to appear on XDJ XZ?
Okay.....I'm very confused. This is a 4 channel. I saw you tap shift twice to switch between decks 1 and 3. But we can only use two decks? No virtual switching to make deck 1 deck 3 and deck 2 into deck 4?
I'm outgrowing my current set up (which is a RANE ONe) and want the ability to spin 4 decks. Is this the set up for me? If not, what do you recommend?
Great review of this unit. I cant see a small bar or venue NOT getting this. I would love to see this everywhere,, really. Any DJ can use it. that is a big plus
I am regretting getting the prime 4 a bit, might sell my 1210s and S9 set up to grab this
Why are you regretting it? I’m torn between the Prime 4 or XDJ -XZ
@lickswell2 Very good advice. Never sell top shelf gear.
@lickswell2 agree, the old technics turntables are a special piece of kit!
prime 4 sound harsh...
Will this be close to CD players? I'm thinking on getting 1 for me, but I'm not sure, I have 2 controllers already, 1 DDJ-1000SRT and 1 DDJSZ .
As someone who owns a Prime 2 and an XZ, I don't understand why people have to come out and say that the Prime 4 is better. Pioneer heads love Pioneer. Denon heads love Denon. Just make great mixes, folks!
prime 4 sound harsh
True good comments it’s not about the kit any way it’s about you and your skills, a good DJ can smash any bit of kit!
Thanks for the great review once again. Do the quality of the jog wheels and knobs feels very different from the DDJ-1000?
What kind of problems did you run into using external effects?
So how are we looking 10 months later. I'm toying with the idea of this or the prime 4, the freezing issue puts me off the Denon.
Or is there any speculation about another similar controller which could incorporate the plus points from the prime.
I hate having to make a choice and not being able to get to a dealers for a hands on look
I've had the XZ for three weeks and love it, full size jogs and FLAC file support along with excellent sound quality
Prime 4 all the way for me, all those freezing issues have been sorted via firmware updates, the streaming capability with Wi-fi connectivity and true 4 channel stand alone whether you’re streaming, using Serato or using usb, SD, Sata…no brainer…
I just picked up this unit, how do I get my waveform in the main window?
If it’s like any other CDJ or XDJ Ive ever used, you’ll need to analyse your tracks in Rekordbox in Export mode then sync them to your USB drive to get waveforms, instant BPMs and the ability to sync
In order to display tracking wave forms on the display, do the tracks need to be analysed by Rekordbox? Or could I plug a USB straight in (that has not been analysed) and then the XZ will analysed & display waveforms?
Must be done via rekord box first otherwise only when the track is saved info
How does it sound with playing vinyl on turntables? Is it the same quality as the DJM mixers? I have had issues with sound on the cheaper pioneer controllers like the SX2.
Very good question. I would also be Interested in the answer.
does the unit have effects such as reverb on mic, I present Karaoke as well as DJ and need reverb on some occasions.
Does this controller read serato files on usb as well . cheers
So you can only switch to decks 3 and 4 if you have a laptop plugged in with serato / rekord box? No way to use 3 AND 4 WITH usbs?
Stupid question but what do i have to do to use this beast's 3rd and 4th channels? OTHER THAN plugging in a CDJ which i cant afford
Vinyl Turntables
This helped a ton, thank you!
Dear How do I stop the music from starting when I press hotcue?
The actual best controller was the pioneer ddj-S1 make a review on it even if its like 10 years old
Ddj t1
YES!
Can you separate the filter sounds 1 dec say echo 2 deck filter on the knob
This or prime 4? I have the Rane 72 and my issue is that the line channel limits a bit to soon. Is there a firmware update to fix this? I hope so is driving crazy.
Prime 4
prime 4 sound harsh
Prime 4
I love my XDJ-XZ so far the problem is I am trying to use it in export mode over ethernet on my 2019 Macbook pro using a USB type C Ethernet adaptor but it does not show as connected after I downloaded the right drivers. Am I doing something wrong?
I’m afraid you’ll need to contact Pioneer DJ support on that. It did work straight away with my (older) MacBook Pro. Are you definitely on the latest Firmware and Rekordbox version? That’s what I’d check first.
@@Mojaxx I am running the latest rekordbox software and have the latest Macos I will check my firmware and contact Pioneer DJ support
@@RPalmieri I use Serato, so if i get a Prime4 i will be using it with Serato anyway. I dont really want to change platforms.
Ramon Palmieri no its not, i have had sc5000s, it was all fine
@@ricorusso9458 And I have had the Prime4 and it was off a lot. So different experience
Ramon Palmieri hm... i mainly play techno and house music. It even could relay on the settings.
Is the stand alone mixer supported for massive speakers or it should run over active speakers only
Slightly weird question.
@@willpolr yeah i know what’s the difference between speakers, its all about this stand aloje mixer which it doesn’t have amplifier,
@@DJ.GoldenGlory I don’t think you understand as no dj mixer or decks have amplifiers.
You’re just not very good at asking a bleedin question mate!
i’m trying so hard to figure out how to do the export mode thing with my computer he explains at 5:40 does anyone know how to do it???
Connect the XZ to your laptop via usb or the 'EXTENSION' lan port. Then open the rekordbox software - switch to export mode using the drop-down menu in the top left corner. On the bottom left of the screen a 'link' button should appear. Click that.
Now you can either drag tracks onto the deck icons on your pc to load them, or you can hit the rekordbox button on the xz to browse your library ;)
Edit: I think you may have to press the 'REKORDBOX' button first on the unit in order for the link button to appear in the software.
how could you add samples on the banks?
Claiming this technology is on par with the nexus 2 a piece of kit released in 2016 is a worry.
I'm sure it is nice to play on but pioneer has shown they will never be 'pioneers' again.
this is a third of the price those were released at tho
There is something important that i think is not clear. The soundcard, so the audio quality, I reed that in the xdj xz is not 24bits/192khz, so the audio quiality of the equipment is not equal to a cdj nexus setup. That is the only thing that keeps me wondering if I wan't to buy it or not.
Does this work with a turntable to play vinyl for channel 3 and 4?
yes
Can you run Rekordbox on 1 and 2 while running Serato on 3 and 4 simultaneously?
You can still send audio through channels 3 & 4 from Serato DJ Pro when using standalone, but you won’t have any control unless you switch the unit over to it, one side at a time. So the answer to your question is... kinda... but not really.
@@Mojaxx if you had a usb track playing out on 1 or 2 you cant easily use 3 and 4 for things like Tidal or mass library that you wouldn't load to usb?
Thanks for your help and effort!
How did you send return the efx through Ethernet ?
So, to be clear, can I use 4 channels at once if I use a USB stick and Rekorbox on my laptop?
Its 2 channels standalone and 4 channels as a controller
@@VictorKibalchich thanks but that's no clearer to me! I specifically want to use 2 channels in Rekordbox link mode via laptop & USB cable and 2 channels via USB plugged into the XZ. Is this possible?
@@sneakBeats1 all at the same time? No, not possible. But why would you want to? If you're gonna have a laptop, just use Rekordbox. In fact, just get a DDJ1000 and save yourself some money!
@@VictorKibalchich not a bad shout! I love my RX2 cos it's given me access to DJM effects and the like, but 2 channels is just too limiting... Gonna look closer at the DDJ1000 now... Cheers
Is there a stand-alone that you can run 4 channels on?
serious question, best bang for the buck, this xdj-xz or the xdj-rx2 ??
XZ
pretty good unit, but prime 4 is way better and cheaper
does sound better than the prime4... and the smooth switchover to software to hardware...but the prime4 is still a winner in my book
how did you get the waveforms on the display??? mine for some reason will not do it.
Do u use record box to analyze your tracks first?
How could I change 44.100 to 48.000 hz to record?
What laptop model is that?
hey is this set good for new comer to djying ?
if youre a beginner beginner id recommend getting the ddj sb3 it's great for entry level
Solid review. Would you say the phono preamps are decent or overall great on this unit? Thank you!
Hello. I have seen a lot of comments of Pioneer and Denon. Mates not everyone like beer some of us like wine soo it will be always like this. DENON AND PIONEER are like lamborgini and ferrari both are good but in the end both have defects.
Well said. But I support the superior underdog to bring more competition and variation into the booths. Monopolists suck.
I like it I upgraded my DDJ 1000 to it I would never need a four stand-alone deck I'm happy with what I got
Can you add in two vinyl turntables?
yes
So this won't work with an rmx1000 then ?
No, there’s a send but no return
Is 9:10 a bug?
Regarding export mode not working on your Windows machine. This was an issue for me, turns out that AnyDesk was overriding the networking functions of Rekordbox, quitting AnyDesk fixes the problem.
i love sx3 and sz2 is best
good feedback reducer.
can u add cdj's to it?
Obviously
Looks wicked, I just wish they’d have Traktor to work with this.
Good stuff, but is it as good as dota 2?
DJcityTV: buys Pioneer Standalone Flagship for $2200 with build in premium software and full support to play the club standard.
Also DJcityTV: Uses Serato on it...
Why?
dude I know....why the fuck would you buy this to plug a laptop into it? there are tons of awesome serato controllers out there for like...1/4 of the price.
Because it’s a review of all of the functions. Including serato.
So nevermind.
lol. Yep, 2 screens would be nice.
