    Great explanation. But I could not fully comprehend why do we have to maintain scavenge cooling water difference to 5 degrees ?

      That 5 degree difference shows the cooling is perfect. And there is no scaling in tubes in inner part and the heat transfer is efficient. Even at low SW temperature if your in/out vv are full open and still there difference between in/out is less than 5degC that means there is scaling in tubes and if the engine will run at high load the cooler won't be able to cope up with the temperature. Also 5 degC difference is necessary to facilitate the Cooling as much as we can. Because once the air is compressed in T/C the cooling is done to make the air dense. And there by reducing the work done. The isothermal PV to the power 1 curve is the curve in which the work done is lowest. We are trying to achieve that. Also if the air is not dense the SCAV temp is high your combustion will be improper. Since higher air temperature will reduce its densisty. Thereby high temp = Less dense air = less air. So the air to fuel ratio will be improper leading to improper fuel combustion.

      VIASHAKH we don't have the damper in real. That diagram is only for the purpose of explaining how surging takes place. Basically by damper it's showing resistance. Resistance can be due to air filter, choked air cooler, dirty scavenge air passages, dirty econimiser.
