I WAS FRIENDS WITH HER BAPTIST PASTOR FATHER, & ATTENDED HIS CHURCH IN JACKSONVILLE, , & HAD SUNDAY DINNER QUITE A FEW TIME WITH LINDA COOLIDGE SERVING & SITTING AT THEIR TABLE., WHEN SHE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL. PASTOR COOLIDGE WAS THE PASTOR OF MY MARRIAGE IN 1956.
Was she one of the wayward children of a Pastor? Was she ever born again?

Saw them together in a small concert in Lubbock TX soon after their marriage, Rita was pregnant, and they seemed to have it all. It was a beautiful show but perhaps the song tells it all. So sad,

He was very hard on the boose
He cheated on her multiple times. Though she loved him deeply, she couldn't tolerate the behavior. In an interview I saw her do a few years ago, she said she'll always love him. But they just didn't work together. 😢

@@Anita-t4x7i ??? Did you ever read ANYTHING about his life? He agreed with everything she said happened. Did you ever see him in concert in his early days? I did! I first saw him when she was pregnant with their child. The man put on an incredibly entertaining show. But NO ONE including him, would have denied he was drunk as could be that evening! And that was just one of many concerts he did, drunk, high, or both. I've been a huge fan of his since the early '70s, but it's common knowledge that he drank heavily and used drugs in those years! No one denies that!! And ANY long time fan of his knows that. It was only after Rita left him that he finally reevaluated his life. He says he found Jesus, -listen to "Why Me Lord", it describes some of his transformation. And yes, everyone knows eventually he did get his act together, found a new love and made his third marriage work. But, I'm totally baffled as to why you're angry at me? All I said is common knowledge that he's confirmed many times! He never denied anything Rita said as to why they broke up! But if you watch them perform together you can see how they felt. And just because he's had a long wonderful marriage now, doesn't mean Rita still may not hold a tiny piece of his heart. Goodness why are you so angry?? I love his talent, but that doesn't mean I can't accept the flaws he once had!! 🙄 Would you have stayed married to someone who was traveling all over the country, getting drunk and high, and sleeping with any woman who threw herself at him? Heck, he probably doesn't even remember any of their names. And likely not some of the encounters even. To show you how drunk he was at that first concert I saw him in, someone kept shouting from the audience, "Where's Rita?" At that time they had been traveling and performing together for awhile. After the dude in the audience had yelled the question multiple times, Kris stopped, mid-sentence, and gives the guy a level stare, and shouts back at him, "Rita?? Hell, Rita's pregnant!!" Needless to say, everyone in the audience chuckled at that comeback. But basically, yeah, if he was out without her, he was cheating on her! And again, both of them, and other people who knew Kris at the time confirm that! This isn't some figment of Rita's imagination! It's WELL KNOWN! And if you'd been a fan of Kris's for decades like I have you'd know that!! The man's a genius, and at that point in his life was definitely a tortured genius! He was driven to write and perform music! It was what he had to do! But it went against the plan his parents had for his life. His dad was career military, and after college and being a Rhodes Scholar in England, he went into the military, and spent several years having an accomplished career. He had even been assigned to teach English at West Point! But he had a short leave, and in his free time, he swung by Nashville, just to satisfy his curiosity. He'd been writing songs for a long time. Well, once he got to Nashville, he realized that was where his music drive needed him to be! He resigned his commission at West Point, and wrote his parents that he was sorry, but he just had to give music a try. Well, they wrote back to him, and basically told him he was now dead to them! That a musician was not something they wanted in their family! That had to rip him up inside. He had the choice of doing what he knew he was meant to do, or having a relationship with his family. He chose music, or he would have been miserable anyway. Shortly, after all that, his first marriage of several years, and several kids broke up. I've not seen many details on why, but I assume because she, too, didn't want to be with a musician. So then his career gets going, and he meets Rita, and they fall in love! But, he had to still be very tortured inside, because everybody close to him previously had bailed on him! He's never made excuses as to why he drank and used drugs, but I'm sure being kicked out of his family didn't help! I think Rita knew that, plus drinking and drugging are what a lot of the musicians he hung with back then did! And I think she could have maybe tolerated that, but loving him like she did, and having a young baby, she just couldn't tolerate the cheating! And no one, including Kris blamed her for that. In fact he wrote several songs after they split up, that totally said, he took the blame! Hopefully knowing a bit more about his personality and background explains to you, that he was pretty messed up and mixed up during their time together. She got him in a very transitional place in his life. And he's hardly the first person, who hit with sudden success, fame and money makes some very poor choices! But, again, I have no idea why you're so angry at me for giving the reasons for their divorce, that are totally common knowledge to anyone who's followed his life and career, as many of us have! My admiration for his writing, and musical genius, know no bounds, but I'm also quite aware that he did some pretty stupid and thoughtless stuff early in his career! Again, I don't understand your anger at me, for stating facts!!

George Gilkenson - In those days he spent most of his time under the influence of booze, drugs, and other women. Rita left because she couldn’t deal with it anymore. Their daughter was still young at the time (kindergarten).
Rita was too in love with this man to really tolerate him with his infidelities she would have been committing emotional suicide

Not long after this, Rita started taking credit for writing all of Kristofferson's songs.
This just in......Rita now claims that she, not Lennon & McCartney, wrote all the Beatles tunes.
Just the coda to Layla....that's all she's claimed.
@@reynoldsjlee - She sued for it and lost because recording data indicated that Gordon wrote and recorded this two years before Layla was recorded and 18 months before he started dating her.
No..she claims she did not sue for it according to her book. I can't find proof of your claim.
