The whole “let him lead” shit is so toxic. Dated a guy in college that was raised super religious and had those beliefs. Thing was though, he was shy, timid, indecisive...etc. which is fine! Although, dating a super religious person helped me out a ton. Made me an atheist :)
It IS super toxic, ugh. Dated a guy that, while he wasn't super religious, was raised within really conservative gender roles and was even pushed into the military to "man him up" a bit. He was also shy and awkward, and kept trying to "dominate" the relationship and our decisions despite it really not being in his nature.

The whole "let him open the door for you" thing shook me so hard. My husband and his older brother were mostly raised by their Catholic single mother (their father died when they were somewhat young). When we started dating in college, I came to visit his family over a school break. We were going out to breakfast and I walked up to the door of the restaurant and opened it, holding it for my (future) MIL, hubs, and BIL. She looked HORRIFIED between me and her sons then lightly berated them for not getting to the door first. Might I mention that they didn't get to the door first because they opened (and closed) both us womenfolks' doors (as well as their own). Also, I moved fast because it was January in Buffalo, NY. Sorry, but I ain't waiting around shivering in the cold when I, as an adult, am fully capable of opening and holding a door myself.
Now fast forward a few years, my hubs is totally "corrupted" by me and my "wanting equal rights for every one thing" 😂 However, my BIL, still struggles to not trip over himself to get to a door before me (regardless of if I actually need the help or not; sometimes going so far as to insist on carrying a heavy item AND get the door for me😅).
So yeah, it's a real thing to make sure you let your man open the door for you, regardless of the costs 🙃

Kids are exhausting and a strain on any relationship/marriage- and I say this as a teacher who loves kids and definitely wants to have kids. This christian view of how children are the greatest and only fulfilling thing in a woman's life is so harmful.
Not only that, but children will see themselves as objects of moral and intellectual pleasure, instead of human beings, making them value themselves based on their ability to make people happy. That's what happened to me.
Exactly, Anna and HLDR you are both 100% right in what you've said. I find this girl defined book to be disturbing and twisted. As someone with immense childhood trauma who was raised in a extremely religious (I am not religious) and abusive family, it was really triggering in particular to hear them mention that in their book, among other things. I really appreciate that so many do not agree with Girl Defined!
