It's been a treat listening to Uecker most of my 34 years of life. I still watch the Brew Crew games on mute and put on the radio broadcast as I watch. I remember in the 90s older guys taking radios to County Stadium to listen to Ueck and watching the live game. Lol
we all have an aunt Linda who still has that damn dial-up modem.. .... this is a GREAT tribute you created - I only hope Bob himself can watch it one day. or at least someone who knows the guy.
I bought Bob’s autobiography when it was released in the spring-summer of 1983. I was laughing so hard at some of the stories from this book that I very nearly put myself in concussion protocol! Another great video on one of the game’s best characters ever!
Fond memories of being in the Army with a couple buddies from Minnesota and Wisconsin. We played Uecker (not too be confused with Eucre the card game). Just another excuse to get fuckin hammered, really. But the rules were some of the best I ever remember in any game at all. Listen to a Brewers game and every time Uke was bullshitting have a beer, every time he fucked up a players name swill a brewski, double if it was a player on the Brewers.. If he started his talk and pause thing you just kept drinking till he found the end of it finally. A lot more rules and all funny as hell. Been a lot of years, but really great times listening to that guy. He's a damn national treasure. Great video, thanks man.
Thanks for sharing this hilarious story, Dave! And we all thank you for your service. Given the even-keeled nature of all our past and present O's broadcasters, it's kind of refreshing to see such a wild dude behind the mic. Don't figure there will ever be a Jim Palmer drinking game, still love the guy, though.
@MiLB Hatbilly I certainly hammered a many with Thorny. No drinking game, really just try and keep up with our drunk uncle Gary! I miss Gary Thorne so much. Our radio guys aren't bad these days (excepting Melanie, she fuckin kills me) but they don't really have that classic baseball thing.. And I listen to nearly every game from the radio app. Pirate one to watch every now and again, but almost entirely radio. Started out with mostly radio shows with my Grampaw, and the habit stuck. P.S. don't thank me, I came on home, bud.
Artie Lange tells some great Ueck stories. One is when he was with in the booth with him and Bob was doing play-by-play when he spotted a woman who, shall we say, was well-endowed, and he kept calling the game but without missing a beat, pressed the cough button (that cuts the sound): "Count is two balls, one strike ... (hits the cough button) ... check out the cans on that broad (releases button) ... fastball hits the outside corner, strike two."
Bob Uecker is what you get when a person never sees any negative consequences for their silly bullshit. I say that only with jealousy and love for the man. He's a great reminder that the game is supposed to be fun and that life can be fun too if you don't take it too seriously. Another great video. Thank you.
For those who haven't watched Uecker's HOF speech, you should look it up. It's 40+ minutes of classic Uecker storytelling hilarity. Your ribs and cheeks will be sore by the end of it. He really is a class act. You can also catch a lot of his Tonight Show appearances on this platform too.
Somebody get the Delorean warmed up. Imagine living in a world where you can just be like, "Yeah, I'm a baseball player, what's up?" ... Nobody checks your references or LinkedIn, and you're soon on an MLB team with a lifelong career in baseball. Uecker is a special soul, but still crazy to contemplate.
The uncolored oleo is a real thing. Dairy farmers got laws passed forbidding margarine makers from dying their product yellow, so it would look disgusting on the table. You can look it up.

You're a part of a special fanbase, for sure, Pablo! I'd definitely be tuning in on the radio, too. I wish him many more years in the booth.
Do you have strategy to pair radio (always ahead) with TV without a DVR? I haven't been able to figure it out.
Way to go man I love BOB JUST A BIT OUT SIDE NEVER GETS OLD A FOR EVER FUNNY IN MY BOOK
By far, the best thing Bud Selig ever did.

He watched it .

Another excellent vid. Keep ‘em coming (at your convenience)
Thank you very much! I aim to upload every other weekend, but life inevitably happens sometimes.

Master of the cough button! Two very different conversations going on seamlessly at the same time.
I'd like to get with that trollop
Great spotlight 🍻

Yeah, there most definitely is a theme of him getting by with literally everything, when all others would see consequences.

Hatbilly greatness!! + Uecker

"Aunt Linda's dial-up" 😂😂😂

It would be a big time scandal these days. Given his complete lack of pedigree as a player, he was actually pretty damn good!
Goat.
Every time we find a good parking spot I always say, "We got in the front roowww."
Looking back, I'm pretty sure one of my high school baseball coaches spoke exclusively in Ueck quotes from Major League. 🤣

I know this is legit, but still LOL'd that this is a legit comment on a baseball history piece. ... More Uecker magic.
Thanks for sharing! I'm sure that joke hits way better in his native land where everyone knows the history of the dairy industry.
2023….Men telling us they are Women and Loving It are the Stars of Beer Commercials.
He looks like Biden, but funnier and smarter.
