Bob Uecker was one of the worst players in MLB history. He knew this, so he then decided to transition into becoming the funniest man in all of baseball (and maybe in the history of sports)...

Rest in peace, Bob 💜
as a brewers fan. this hurts
Did him dirty by mentioning him leading the league in passed balls in 67’ without giving the context… he just happened to be the personal catcher for one of the nastiest knuckleballs in MLB history, Phil Niekro
"The way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling and then pick it up." - Bob Uecker.
@@buckhorncortez one of the greatest quotes ever lol
I love the little story he told on how there was a game where both Phil and Joe Niekro were pitching against each other, and their parents were behind homeplate, Bob saw the parents more times than anyone else that day XD
@@frenchfrey65 hahaha I’ve never heard tha one before, that is great!
Actually he was a hell of a defensive catcher but as far as batting he might as well have used a spatula. Ueck had a great line about catching Neikro. Somone asked him how he caught Neikro's knuckle ball. Ueck said it was easy. You just wait 'til it stops rolling and pick it up;
Bob Eucker commentating drunk in the major league movies is worth gold.
Uecker
True, but I have to ask this, Would it be possible to have him be an example of what you CAN do when you say " This is how it will be ! " and then go and so it ?.
Harry Caray would also get two sheets to the wind and announce the Cardinal games like that on occasion.
@@billgrandone3552 i wonder how many are drunk but the glasses are normal so they get away with it up to a point, BAC is BAC, so at this or that button let the cat out of the bag.
@@johnking1896 Well it's really hard to say but I know that Harry Caray had a drinking problem both in St. Louis and Chicago.
And just remember he had .200 in the majors, which means if he played in a Sunday league, he’d be the best player by a mile. He wasn’t bad at baseball. He was just bad at major league baseball.
Hitting 200 now means your the best hitter alive
@@corywilson2007Kyle Schwarber doesn't deserve this shade 😂
😂😂
He won a world series in 1964 as the backup to nobody Else but the Great Tim Mccarver in St. Louis!
@@ShrexyGuy he deserves far worse
I STILL use his “I must be in the front row” and “JUST a bit outside” lines. 😂😂
Juuuuust a bit outside, he tried the corner and missed.
I love using this as an example of how humor isn’t just saying silly things. It’s how you say normal things, or when you say them.
My dad uses this every time he gets a good parking spot 😂
I do too, that’s hilarious!!😂😂
At least once a week.. 😅
Every time I get a good parking spot me, and my entire family will say “that must by my spot in the front row,” in that voice. That line is forever classic.
RIP Mr Baseball, Bob Uecker. Never can be replaced. He will be sorely missed.
THANK YOU FOR PRAISING BOB UECKER, HE IS A NATIONAL TREASURE
A straight up legend. I always feel like us Mets fans are spoiled with Howie but I feel like Bob playing Harry Doyle in Major League made a lot of 90’s kid like myself who root for other teams love him so much.
Howie is not a great announcer like the (UKE)!!! NO WAY ,NO HOW!!! He's worlds away from any howie whose just in it fo
r himself and to get into the Hall of Fame for that LAMEL announcing he does!!! UKE all the way!!!! Earl of ElBarrio,NYC,NY. 5/11/24. 10:16AM
I would say I was spoiled. Born in 77 but 83 is when I first remember hearing Bob on the radio. All the way until this past October. 41 years. I was spoiled as f@ck
"Every player knows when its time to retire. For me, it was the day I walked into the clubhouse and the manager said 'no visitors allowed"
That Miller Lite commercial was legendary.
You're in the wrong seat buddy. I must be in the Front Roooow.😂
Love this man. Mr. Baseball
Wisconsin loves you for this video!!!! We LOVE OUR EUKE. Literally everytime the brewers get close to a pennant the t shirts and fans and even team start chanting WIN IT FOR THE EUKE
I didn't think Bob Gibson was capable of smiling while wearing a uniform. The man was a cold-blooded assassin.
Definitely a revelation for me too!
I did get him of laugh one time at the baseball writers dinner. I got to go with my Dads friends when I was in college to the 67 and 68. Met Gibby, Lou Brock, and Curt Flood, People had a chance to go up to the head table and shake hands and say hello. That season Harry Caray was still the announcer for the Cardinals but he was in the hospital after breaking his leg when a car hit him after he left the Chase Park Plaza. For the whole season Harry kept talking about his purple martin birds and the bird house he erected in the yard to kill mosquitoes. When games were slow Jack Buck who did color commentary would get Harry going about his birds and he could go on for several innings about them. So I pocketed two leg bones from the cornish hens they served for dinner and pulled them out to give to Gibby , Brock, and Flood saying as I did so " I really miss not having Harry here, please give him these and tell him I wish that he was here because his purple martins were delicious. That should get him out of bed. All three of them started laughing. Later the three of them were standing behind me as we waited for valet parking and one of them said that I was a funny kid and they would be sure to tell Harry;
Only Uek could bring that out in Bob Gibson... A truly fearsome sight on the mound
Watched them many times in the early 60's. Remember getting tickets for an epic game pitting Gibson against Koufax, I'm the only Dodger fan in a family of Cardinal rooters. So this could be bad for me either way. Koufax got knocked out in the third inning and i was taking a lot of heat. Then Gibson got yanked one inning later. Dodgers won in 10 inning 8-7 on Norm Larker's single and the ride home was very, very quiet.
@@billgrandone3552 That's a great memory to be cherished, Bill... And the reason why it's the Great American Pastime...
Ueker is the best
Thing that ever happened to baseball.
“Just a bit outside.” 😂😂
Gets me every time.
Norm Macdonald's and Artie Lange stories on him are some of the funniest stuff ever.
“That Artie fukin Klein”
@@xandercrews4729 that fker must be running short on material
Bob didn’t like Artie’s story.
Thank you for doing this video. Being an 80s kid you pretty much just know him for funny Miller Lite commercials, late night tv, announcing, and movies. Thats hilarious about him claiming to play for the Marquette baseball team 😂😂
My heart breaks. But remembering him, I can’t help but chuckle, laugh and walk away smiling for the many memories he gave us. May you truly rest in peace, Mr. Baseball.
Hes a man who's love of baseball itself never faded. It's the main reason he's so great as an announcer. The man truly loves the game and it is in every word he speaks
That's a truly awesome video. Major League is still one of my favorites. 'Ball 4, ball 8, ball 12' he was classic in that movie.
To me, Bob had Betty White status even though maybe not as well known. I mean, how can you NOT like Bob Uecker or Betty White? RIP to both of these wonderful people!
Nothing is better than listening to Uke call a game on the radio
One of the best at self depreciating humor
He has made being a Brewer fan feel like the best thing. Sure, they've never won it all, but having Uke calling my team's games during my entire life has been amazing, and I wouldn't trade him for all the rings.
That baseball Hall of Fame speech he gave is probably one of the best ever given in Cooperstown. Had the guys sitting behind him practically falling out of their seats. It's basically the closest we ever got to a stand-up special by Bob.
His hall of Fame speech is worth watching if you have a few spare minutes. Had people crying with laughter
18 mins of pure comedy gold.
I listened to Mr. Baseball do a game on radio a couple of years ago because I couldn't find a Cubs channel. He was one of the best announcers I'd ever heard. He never said one negative word about the Cubs or any of their players. He's a class act and definitely one of the best announcers ever.
Love that you included Norm doing his Uecker impression and Belvedere story. You don't often see Letterman laughing so hard he can't catch his breath.
Bob Uecker is one of the funniest men alive.
Bob is a true ambassador of baseball. Just a great guy. I grew up an hour from County Stadium and Miller Park (We all still call it that here). He loves to fish on Lake Michigan and is friendly to fans that he comes across. Class act.
As a Brewers fan, Bob Uckler doing play-by-play is as good as winning any World Series Trophy
I just saw this after writing something similar here, and we are so lucky to have him.
Ummm well
Well you guys can’t win a postseason series in the national league since Selig moved you there in the 90s.
@@robertmusgrave92362018
We need to get him a ring though. Gotta do it for Ueck
This 90 year old Wisconsin sports announcer still calls baseball games the old fashioned way
why was there always a bite taken out of one of these?
His face while getting choked by Andre is one of the greatest slapsitick moments ever
RIP. Baseball will never be the same.
When speaking about catching a knuckleball pitcher Bob said it was no problem, after the pitch gets by you you just chase it till it stops rolling, then you just pick it up
Really great video. Bob Eucker is hilarious and the Brewers are lucky to have such a great personality in the booth.
my wife’s grandfather was a scout for the Brewers since their inception till the mid 1990s when he passed. He knew Bob Eucker pretty well during his time as my wife recalls he was a pretty unique individual.
RIP Mr.. Baseball. Edit: And Happy Birthday!
As a lifelong Brewers fan who's never gone a season without hearing Bob's voice on the radio, baseball, and even Summer as a whole will never be the same. I'm sad the Crew was never able to bring home a World Series for him, but the outpouring of love from the whole baseball community and beyond has made this loss a bit less painful. RIP to one of the greats.
I came up to bat in the 9th inning with our team down and two outs, I look over to the opponent’s dugout, and they were already in street clothes.
I’m a Milwaukee fan who loves to listen to Uecker on the radio. At 90, his voice is still strong, his memory great, and the stories are golden!
I remember buying a book that Bob put out back in 1983. It was so hilarious I almost put myself in concussion protocol from banging my against the headboard of my bed. I must admit that I do a pretty good job in impersonating his Harry Doyle character from Major League. Bob Uecker, baseball and comedy is definitely a winning combination! 😅
I've never seen anything this bizarre, and I've seen Mr. Belvedere naked. Whoo!
If I had to build a Rushmore of baseball announcers, there are three voices that are guaranteed and a fourth that could be one of many (depending on the day). The three that I would definitely enshrine are Dave Niehuas (original voice of the Seattle Mariners), the incomparable Vin Scully, and Bob Uecker. They were all special to the audiences that heard them during the years. Bob was one of the reasons I wanted to get into broadcasting (haven't tried it yet) because he was such a character that I felt confident being myself on the air. Thank you for giving Bob Uecker the spotlight he deserves, and great content as always.
*Harry Caray* has entered the chat
Harry man. You forgot Harry! Hey Hey
Jon Miller: Am I a joke to you?
@@matrixphijr don't get me wrong, i like me some Jon Miller, but we have Boog Sciambi in that spot now and he's crushing it. I'm spoiled as a Cubs fan for getting him six days a week and the understated legend Pat Hughes on the radio.
@@qfmarsh64 If this was the Cubs announcers Rushmore then you'd have a point, but the greatest of all MLB announcers of all time is well above Jon Sciambi and even Harry Caray.
"Tonight's post-game show brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it!"
RIP Bob. Thanks for the memories
5:21 "I must be on the front row!" and then he's shown up in the worst seats. Us Brewers fans would always call the cheapest seats the "Uecker Seats" and some of us still do!
'Juuuust a bit outside.'...best Uecker quote!!
I don't think I've ever met anyone that doesn't like Bob Uecker. He's just an amazing man and extremely talented. He was always in excellent physical condition as well. Imagine working in radio/television for 50 "DAYS" without a contract? This man has done it for 50 years. LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!
"Well, Bob and I are holding hands."
I bet Jon Bois loves this guy.
He played a note in the symphony!
Bob Uecker is a living legend in Wisconsin, we are lucky to have him.
Get up, get up, get outta here, GONE. WHAT A F'N LEGEND!
Bob is a national treasure
I love this guy, plus major league is my favorite baseball movie and he is so funny acting in it
As a Milwaukee fan, I still try to tune in to some home games on 620AM!
Bob has been a part of my entire life. We love him in Wisconsin.
His Futurama cameo was one of the funniest in the shows history. "Month old franks, the hot dogs with experience" 😊
I remember as a kid, "He missed the tag!!!!!"...
No one who knows anything about baseball can help but smile when the name Bob Uecker is uttered. Personally I laugh from the gut.
"Didn't finish high school, enlisting in the army at the age of 20".. WHAT
Bob Eucker is still alive? That's awesome! I am pleased to hear that. He is a very funny guy.
A close 2nd for humorous baseball commentators: Mike Krukow, TV analyst for the San Francisco Giants... his tagline of " Grab Some Pine Meat " for strikeouts is just a sample of his humor
Rest in Peace Mr. Baseball. Even as a Mets fan, Uecker was and still is my favorite broadcaster in sports. Me and my friend who love Major League just quote Harry Doyle all the time. Finding out Uecker ad libbed the lines shows his wit and delivery are comedic genius. I respect all the greats of baseball announcing but Uecker will always be the Voice of Baseball to me.
The only one that could tell a baseball story as good as Uke was Joe Garagiola
R.I.P. Bob
RIP Bob, you'll always be missed
Called the front office, bingo lol
As a Cubs fan, I genuinely approve. BOB is a friggin' LEGEND and the MAN! ❤
I didn't know I needed this in my life. Ty very much for the content.
Growing up in Wisconsin with Uecker on the radio, he is an institution. Having heard a lot of baseball teams radio broadcasts across the country, there is no one like him. We are lucky to have him. A lot of years, particularly in the 90s, the team was so dreadful. But we still tuned in to hear Uecker. Its true, he never runs down the players or the team. He is funny, knowledgeable, and engaging. Uecker only does home games now. If you have the MLB app and a subscription, i encourage you to give a Brewers game a listen.
Learning that Bob is still alive makes the world a better place!!
I love the line Bob grab a bat and stop this rally. At one time i thought that DH meant Doesn't Hit.
When the Brewers won a playoff game they gave him a share of the money and he donated it to charity.
Class!
Artie Lange's Bob Uecker stories will make you love Uecker even more than you already do.
I love Eucker, and this video is a nice introduction to him. I think simply making the title "The Funniest Baseball Player of All Time" and using the picture of him playing a tuba in front of the bleachers in the World Series might get you some more viewers! his age and longevity are a great part of the story but the most captivating part is just his personality.
.200 in the Show is .200 higher than 99.9% of the world population. He’s a stud.
Love that guy. Just a bit outside, hahaha
I love Bob!! Man i cant believe he's 90!! He was a big part of my childhood. From watching him on wrestling mr belvedere and him in the movie major league
This thumbnail is a great look for Uecker. Looks like the Chevy chase of baseball announcing
Yes Bob Uecker is amazing. One of the funniest people ever and definitely the funniest broadcaster ever.
even decades before the section dedicated to him, having "bob Uecker" seats was a Milwaukee kinda way of saying you have bad seats to not just brewers games but just about anything (the irony ofc being the brewers played in what looks like a minor league park where every seat was good into the 2000s, the stadium used in Major League).
The Brewers actually played Originally in Milwaukee County Stadium, which was built for The Milwaukee Braves. It held over 50,000 and was a Great Baseball Stadium ( even the Green Bay Packers played there for a long time) for its time, not a Minor League Stadium. The Movie Major League was actually filmed in Milwaukee County Stadium...
@@jmweed1861 yeah dude, that’s what I’m saying. Great stadium, so good even the worst seats weren’t that bad (hence my minor league comparison). I sat 7 rows behind the plate there. Great times. Didn’t the packers used to play 3 games a year there?
As a Mets fan I have to say that Uke is a national treasure. I wish we had him on with Kiner, Murphy, and Nelson... what a lineup that would have been...
Can you imagine Tim & Bob on the same team?!?! Tim is a hell of a personality too
"Just a bit outside."
wasn’t expecting a norm appearance, but happy to see him here
The soundtrack just gave me a flood of memories thank you
''Juuuuuuust a bit outside''... legend. I still use that line when someone screws up. Nowadays i just get blank stares tho. Kids these days...
Bob Uecker made a comedy career out of using humility as a comedy construct. He was genius. He dialed in to human insecurities and made them adorable.
I remember the 1980s Detroit Tigers game radio play by play announcers Ernie Harwell and Al Kaline, who at some point in their later career started to get on each other's nerves personally, and would get into little bickering matches on the radio with each other. It was both sad yet humorous.
Bob Brewer announced baseball like it was a game instead of a war. He was a popular member of the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was once a bright minor league prospect but got buried behind Torre & McCarver! Funny as heck & a true survivor since the early 60's.
The man made it to MLB. Period.
When inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame he said he should of gotten in on his baseball stats instead of his broadcasting career.
Mr. Belvedere, Major League, Bob Uecker has been a consistently funny presence since before my time, Mr. Belvedere is as far back as my memory lets me see. He's a legend and we're lucky to have him and his work
Didn’t know a lot about his story pre announcing loved the video man
From Milwaukee Wisconsin, we love you Bob.
Been quite a ride. Loved him on the air & he went everywhere.
He has one more World Series ring than I do...or Ernie Banks for that matter...Cool guy!
Uecker is still well regarded here in Atlanta many years later. Catching for Phil Niekro was no easy task with the Knuckleball 😂
I love this man so much! We need to win him a World Series before.... you know
Bigger than baseball. Love him.
He could still call a better game piss drunk than Joe Buck ever could!
I, for one, would pay to hear Joe Buck call games piss drunk.
and has.. many times !!! LOL
Whenever I see a video or picture of him, my heart jumps into my throat and I think "Oh god, he died and people are doing retrospectives."
