Try putting your hands forward just a little bit and swing upward and come down with a steep angle of attack. I tried that and in about just fired up like a rocket ship and I was like 15 feet from the cup.
Last year I put 2 hybrids in my bag to replace my 2I and 3I. And I then went out and spent all of last year hooking my hybrid shots all over the place. I really had NO 180-195 yard shot because I couldn't trust the club...or so I thought. Ball position...ball position and...ball position. I was absolutely playing my hybrids off my left heel (righty) because it never occurred to me to "play them like irons." I can tell you that my basic hybrid swing setup is now one ball width forward of center and I now have a dependable, reliable swing, shot and position for my hybrid clubs.
Took my new clubs to the range today. Never had hybrids before so was a little frustrated. This video helped me and I am going back to the range tomorrow! Thank you.
I used my Hybrid just off the green into shallow 2nd cut. Almost hold it rolled perfect and was on the rim of the cup! It is a awesome club around the Green!
Outstanding video! This year I finally broke down and bought a new set of clubs and got a proper fitting. Purchased Callaway Epic Max woods and graphite shafted Apex irons and a graphite shafted 4 hybrid. The iron setups are plus 1 inch and 3 upright, the hybrid is plus a half inch and the woods regular length and flex. I kept my 3 Cleveland graphite shafted wedges and had them adjusted to pair to the Apex irons. The only club that has been a disappointment for me has been the 4 hybrid. I want to thank you because your video exactly described what I have doing wrong with the hybrid and how I have subsequently limited its use to 190 yard recovery shots. Thanks for the invaluable tips and insights, I have and will continue to apply your suggested swing, ball placement position, and use strategies. Thanks again, great video!
This video is excellent! Someone else suggested sweeping the ball off the ground with a hybrid, but I didn't find that effective. Your advice to hit down on the ball as we do with an iron was the game changer for me. Your other suggestions regarding use around the green, off he tee, narrow fairways are also very useful. Thank you -
Great instruction, easy to understand. I now hit down on all my hybrids and it solved many problems. I don’t use a tee for my hybrids on tee shots because the strikes are not as solid for me for some reason as compared to just hitting it off the ground. I carry a Titleist 910H 24 & 27 degree hybrid. I also use them quite a bit for chipping around the green. If the lie is tight and if using a wedge is questionable, I don’t hesitate to chip with a hybrid and usually it’s a better result anyway.
My set is 3 thru PW...all hybrids. I hit these so much better than I did with my old traditional iron set. I struggle with shots mainly going left, but I hit the ball more solid than I did with traditional irons.
I found your video 3 weeks ago re: Hitting Hybrids. 25 years ago I hit fairway wood pretty well. Now that I am back to playing again over the last 5 years, my odds of hitting a Fairway Wood were zip to none. Ithem but, since I had not been hitting woods, what did I have to loose. I will take 180 and 195 yards all day. Over my last 4 rounds I have had 1 Eagle and 8 Birdies (par 4's & 5's)and taken an average of 7-8 strokes off my game. Confidence is building rapidly. Thanks again for the video.
I love hybrids. You might add how high to tee a hybrid. I may have missed it but if not it would be a good addition. I usually tee mine very low. Thanks. :)
I like using my 3 hybrid when I’ve got 100-170 yards to go but tree limbs are blocking trajectory of my normal iron shot or if limbs are in my swing plane. I treat it like a bump and run putter swing that a lot of people use a 7 or 8 iron on around the green, except the hybrid launches it, even with just a 2’-3’ back swing, and it’s easy to hit squarely with such a short swing. Of course, just like any bump and run shot you have to factor in conditions and slope etc to properly control distance, but it has saved me several times and gotten me on or near several greens I had no business getting close to otherwise.
Perfect timing on this video. I've been frustrated hitting hybrids in the past. Very inconsistent, so I'm thinking I need to switch to a stiffer shaft, as you did. Can you incorporate fairway woods and hybrids into a video about hitting off slopes? I live in a mountainous area and the courses rarely are flat.
I’m very inconsistent with my hybrids and woods I’ll hit a high and far shot then I’ll hit three tops or chunks, I only find success with a shorter swing and brushing the grass as I hit these clubs 🤷♂️ confused is an understatement

Great video with very solid tips. A question for you. I'm a 79 y/o golfer with some back issues and have lost considerable distance. In an effort to regain the distance, I find myself trying to swing harder which as you might expect, causes a lot of other problems. I currently play Titleist AP 1 irons with senior flex shafts. I've been intrigued with s few of the hybrid iron sets (Wilson, Cleveland, Cobra) as a way of gaining some distance but also helping me keep the ball in play. I'm currently a 12.9 hndc but am going in the wrong way. Comments/ideas.
Wayne Kivi thank you for posting. This is why I love golf, no matter our age 79 or 9 we can always improve! As our swing speed goes down the hybrids are a good option. They will make it easier to get the ball up in the air which will provide more distance and make shots into the green easier. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and posting!
Great video explaining hybrids. One question I have is where are the hands at setup? Are the hands over the ball? In front of the ball? Or behind the ball? I couldn't tell on your video.

Good question, are they low and left or just low?
@@USGOLFTVshow Just low....

There never seems to be a desciption on how far away to be from ball and how should weight be distributed.
Great questions, we like to have a little more pressure on the lead foot at address, maybe 60/40 to allow the body to unweight in the backswing without swaying. We also like the hands to fall basically below the shoulders to get you a proper distance from the ball. Here is a quick ball position lesson we did a few years ago to help: ruclips.net/video/t0Dyp7qMa7s/видео.html

@@USGOLFTVshow igot the 425 hybrid and I usually push ball Right handed But now am hitting left !Where should the club be set at .big plus little plus flat lie what confusing 😕
Ball position. For a 5 hybrid?
Similar to a mid iron, just slightly forward of center.
Fittimg is not available in my country. Should i quit golf?
We don’t want anyone to quit golf! Do you know your swing speed? Average score?
@@USGOLFTVshow l am 70 yrs old. Speed around 80 mph. Handicap 20. Score 95 on average
@@karamramyead3818 those are solid scores. Suggest you go with a regular flex shaft with a 21 degree loft. This is a good combination for your swing speed. Hope that helps...
Tee height with different hybrids????
Yep, tee it so the ball is barely above the top of the grass. Good question
Ball position on 4H, 5H and 6H?
Here is a video on ball position ruclips.net/video/PeWAFo0_Qfc/видео.htmlsi=IY0QyMv08JzRaMzd
do you promote a downward swing by leaning shaft forward thanks
mack042 we like a slight forward shaft lean with the irons at impact. Not much of a lean for hybrids...
What about a tight lie on the fairway?
I have tried 5-6 different hybrids mine 6 years golfing. They're not all the same some is too shut at address position and other better out of bad lies rough some not. Smaller head of hybrids are better out getting out deep rough?
yuan yu yes, the smaller heads are better out of the rough. Good point...thanks for adding to the conversation
If I could trust my shots I wouldn't watch RUclips for tips.

golfing in jeans? 😱
Hilarious. Totally the opposite of how you should hit your hybrids. His alignment is right, but the swing path he recommends is totally wrong. Rick Shiels has a much better youtoube channel with great advice on how to hit hybrids correctly.
Eric, appreciate you taking time to comment. Help us understand where we are wrong? Rick is a smart guy and great coach, we have nothing but respect for him and his content. Look forward to hearing from you.
