My dad introduced me to the absolute brilliance that is Gerry Rafferty when I was just a kid. I listen to him daily. This is one of my favourite songs. The journey his songs take you on...my heart aches that he left us so early in his life. I get it, tho. I've delved onto all the works that are available. He plays in my life all the time and I am utterly floored at his exceptional music. Thank you, Dave the Hedgehog. Gerry will never be forgotten in my heart, soul, and bones.
The epitome of why I love Rafferty! Every song he has is filled with solid vocals, embodies the perfect example of an epic jam session, and always tells a great story. I’m new to his music, but I’ve yet to find a song of his that I’ve not wanted to sit and listen to over and over! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Wow.im 58 now.won this album and breakfast in America on wls radio.that started my rock n roll life.i still have those albums to this day.gerry was great.miss you.
A Fantastic Song And Album . :-) . . . . R.I.P Mr. Gerry Rafferty . . . .Thank You For You Being You, And For Your Wonderful Music, Guitar And Bass Playing, And Your Fantastic Singing . . . . . . Cheers .
Looks like someone put a big old concert style tremelo harp in Hugh's hands and said fake it...a harp which would never bend notes like that. Most likely a Hohner Marine band ten hole diatonic was played by Paul Jones...your workman harp of the time.
Paul Jones (born Paul Pond, 24 February 1942)[1] is an English singer, actor, harmonica player, radio personality and television presenter. He presented The Blues Show on BBC Radio 2 for thirty-two years.
I’m 66 this year. Back when City to City, the album, was advice someone whispered in my ear, as a must listen to piece of work, maybe ‘78, I fell in love with that LP. I just purchased a CD and have jammed in my car to it. I read that during recording, everyone left their desks to listen in to this musical genius. Gone waaayyy to soon. Goodnight Gerry😘
2023 forty five years after its release its sounds as good today as it did then. Well crafted album Gerry

This album is good from start to finish.
With a voice like that, you don't have to make a big fuzz on the stage.
We'll always miss you Gerry, you are one of the absolute greats, see you down Baker street one day!!😀
A voice like velvet, and songwriting like no one else.... sadly missed

Only got into Gerry recently, mans a genius tho, City to City, Night Owl, Snakes and Ladders, superb albums
I love this song, a memory of my teenage period.
The video shows Hugh Murphy on harmonica, but it was actually Paul Jones (ex Manfred Mann singer) who played on the original recording.

Even top of the pops would not stoop that low to have a tou train while a singer sings a song.
Great song. But whose idea was it to put the Lionel train set out there? lmao
Who is the harmonica player?
Paul Jones (born Paul Pond, 24 February 1942)[1] is an English singer, actor, harmonica player, radio personality and television presenter. He presented The Blues Show on BBC Radio 2 for thirty-two years.
It's actually Hugh Murphy,Gerrys close friend and producer.
Paul Jones played on the album.
You can find this song and many others at www.GouweOuweMuziek.nl !
Great song! Read He drank himself to death!
Life is not for beginners ......
terrible video --- having a talent like Gerry Rafferty standing up there without a band, lip-synching to the song.
Raelspark yep, my thoughts exactly
I ignore the video and just enjoy the music!
