your right steve i'm in ohio and when this album came out 'the radio d j played in full with out stopping so guys like me could record it . and that was 2:30 am i never understood why he did not blow to the top..
+Steven R I'm Swiss and he's a reference to me and several of my friends who love funk. So he's even appreciated in Europe. :) We also looovvveee Morris Day and the Time!
LMAO! There is NOTHING underrated about him. He was hand-picked by Prince to play guitar in The Time, ended up being Prince's right-hand man and running The Time once Morris checked out, had his own band and couple hits, and has been world famous as a guitarist for the last 40 plus years. Now with a resume like that, either you don't know what underrated means, or you're doing what most people on RUclips do: OVERUSING the word underrated.
@@Igaveyoumyfakename Damn, you know how to break it down. I'm a Jesse fan, so I agree with everything you said. He's a major talent as a guitarist, and the driving force behind the funky sound of The Time. I guess I was referring to him as a commercial success on his own and name recognition beyond us old school fanatics. He deserved more success in a broad, commercial sense. But I think so much of that is based on personality and the connections in the music industry. With The Time, no one could upstage Morris Day. The act Jesse produced Ta Mara & The Seen was a major venture that also deserved more commercial success. "Everybody Dance" brought the crowd to the dance floor in the 80s, and to this day, I pound that song til I almost blow my speakers. I wish the Ta Mara project had continued with greater success. . . . but I agree with you, Jesse is one of the best in the world.
Jesse has always been a outstanding guitar player he never get the credit he deserves you look at some of guitar rankings in guitar magazine he is never mentioned and Nile Rogers either.
I love Jesse's expression as he plays the guitar. Its as if he's letting the guitar speak for itself. He's letting the funk land where it may. I loves it.
Man! This cat was my idol back in the day. I wore my hair like his and even rocked a pink guitar. I always felt that he never got the credit that he truly deserves. Keep doin' your thing Jesse!!!
And here I was thinking I was the only HUGE Jessie Johnson fans in America. I'm not a musician. I've been more an athlete, and sometime thug for most of my life, and I look the part. But I just somehow connected with this dude's whole vibe; the music, the image and style, even the dance moves back in the day. Still the man.
Jesse got funky with the guitar, maan takes me back, love that Minneapolis and Michigan sound. Back in the 80s this was the sound that ruled the radio waves.
+Raymond Thompson kanye west is a fucking JOKE! That idiot has NO talent- he just rips off samples from other people and incorporates them into his own sloppy shit. He won't be remembered for anything good in 20-30 years.
I'm 54, retired Army and soldiers in the barracks didn't like his ALBUM cover until i played this song. 11B 1985-2009 11Z Retired 2nd Bat 503rd Abn. 173rd ABN
Jesse Johnson plays Guitar on D'Angelo's 2014 Album, "Black Messiah." He also toured in D'Angelo's band, "The Vanguard." This was a few years after Jesse reunited with the original members of The Time as "The Original 7ven" in 2011 for their album "Condensate" (as their 30 year Reunion). At the time, Prince wouldn't let them use the name "The Time," so they renamed themselves.
Loved it! That's what I called some serious funk. I heard it all on the Tom Joyner show. Would be nice to show Steve Harvey a funky jam or too. Always got love for Jesse. Thanx bro.
+Michael Prescott, Jr. 4 sho !!!!!!!! as a matter of fact I think he should put out a CD with all of his songs/hits with just him singing acapella and just playing the damn guitar ! because if he did it would be the 1st CD that I'd bought in the last 10 years !
One of the best Jesse keep it going been a fan since you first showed up before the BET days and the Time Do more concerts in Cali you have way more fans than you know. Especially in the Oakland San Francisco Bay Area RB RB
Just checked this site out today. Very cutting edge, infomative, inovative. Not to mention, the quality of musicianship that's featured. Goodluck & much sucess w/ programing, featured talant. D.Brown S.A. Cali.
Man Jesse killed it! He knows how to entertain, work the crowd and the sound is fresh. He is a true bluesman. Very underrated 💯
Oh ueah that taging horde of party people is just rating out of his hands very weak version of voodoo chile

Jesse Johnson, beyond any shadow of a doubt, is in the pantheon of guitar players that I got mad respect for.
Jesse's always been underrated.
