Man I remember when Jesse dropped his first album I was about 8 years old. My boy had that pink gangster suit with the pink guitar to match but it didn’t look fruity it looked gangster. He was definitely my first guitar hero and one of the main reasons I learned to play guitar when I got in my twenties. Jesse is cold. 💯
Yeah his attitude was gangster as well! Prince & Jesse allowed me to pick up the axe too! I was 16 & started my first and called it the Date LOL! We had a calendar on the back of a mirror and hollered out, WHATS THE DATE!? SOMEBODY BRING ME A CALENDAR! OH! WEE-OH-WEOHH! Peace fellow funkateer!
in 1984 I was 12yo, Prince's music and artistry blew me away on top of that my parent were divorcing + the feeling that after all there were other freaks like me, it turned me into an hardcore fan, and I did look down on Jesse's work just because Prince wasn't involved....I changed my mind during the COVID lockdown, plenty of time to listen music....Mr Jesse Johnson is a legit King ...
WHAT REALLY MAKES ME PO!!! THIS IS ONE OF THE BADDEST FUNKIEST GUITARIST WALKIN THE PLANET! AND HAS NEVER BEEN INTERVIEWED IN ANY OF GUITAR PLAYER, GUITAR WORLD, GUITAR TECHNIQUES MAGAZINE'S!!!
Initially, I was thinking the same thing. I can see Prince in Jesse J or maybe it was the other way around. It’s like they both influenced each other. Strange, but seems true. I can see it, I can feel it. Just listen. Do you know what I mean?
@@fabulousrobert6607 You get see the Prince influence. Even the way he groves is Prince-like . When first started playing Prince automatically came to mind.

I took my sister, RIP Fly Fede, to her 1st concert to see Jesse and we had front row seats right off the stage’s entrance. When Jesse was walking up the stairs to the stage, I told him that it was her 1st concert, so he came and performed every solo right in front of her. During one of the songs one of his white Stratocaster’s was having a problem and wasn’t working, so he took it off and slid to her, and like an idiot she gave it to the guitar tech. I told her that he was giving her the guitar, but she was to “Love Struck” to keep it. True story…
Huge fan of Jesse Johnson, one of the baddest guartist out there , yoshi is the spot , I was out there in 2015-2016 for 2 weeks luv the bay area, nothing but love for the west coast .💯💯💯💯💯
??? What is the Minneapolis guitar style?🤔... remember Zapp, Ohio Players, Cameo and the JB's they all played it before Prince and the same time frame... Jesse don't play like Santana/Prince naturally.... but yes you & me both are fans of Jesse and Prince... I'm not trying to be funny with you 🫶✌️✊🙂
Went through 3 car clubs, gerri curls and many girlfriends on his music. Shout out to the Darsun 510, 74-77 Capri and Mini Truck Clubs... Don't even get Me started on the money We spent on clothes...
I think one of my biggest regrets is that some of the best work Jessie and boys did was on the original 7 project. I want him to play those songs live Please check out the trax
The statement that Jesse Johnson was a "Prince wannabe" is highly inaccurate. Prince and Jesse had their own styles: Prince outgoing and flamboyant, Jesse... cool and reserved. I've never seen Jesse jump from speaker stacks or do splits during any of his performances. Prince was primarily a lead guitarist than a rhythm guitarist; however, he was equally proficient with both styles. Jesse was funkier, not necessary better. He would use both techniques, focusing initially on rhythm chords to set the tone for what was yet to come... a searing guitar solo.
There is always going to be a hater around. That's why I didn't even address it, as a matter of fact I am going to block them. That negative energy is not needed. Jesse is so darn cool, it's down right criminal. The fans ❤️ love him, he is just a people person and so down to earth. He will always be loved, because that's what he gives.

ANYHOW, I APPRECIATE YOUR MUSICIANSHIP, MR. JOHNSON...THANK YOU....
I love Jesse Johnson. I saw him perform at the Fillmore in S.F. back in the day as well as with The Time at the Collision in Oakland. He's the real deal for sure, but let's also give it up for DJ Hi Top aka Dr Funk aka Miguel Fonseca a Bay Area Legend. You looking good Homie.❤

I like Jesse but this is a low budget production, looks unrehearsed to, and he keeps fuckin around with his pedals during his solos,he should have already had that together.
Regardless of his guitar chops and everything else, being a showman doesn't seem to be his strength, at least when not being directed by someone else. While the music and his playing is great, in other regards his show and stage presence comes across as quite amateurish.
You are absolutely wrong. Everyone was rocking 😎 with the music. Everyone had a great time as you can see. Just watch the clips. Everyone loves Jesse. The show was awesome 👌, the crowd was astonished.
