I was only 15 when this came out, year my father died, mom checked out. Realized I was on my own. Like a sling shot I’m back on that beach listening on my Sony Walkman. As hard as it was, I’d go back. I want that girl, I loved this song, it brought me calm in a chaotic time. It still love this song . 💕
Wow! I'm sure this song brings up alot of different feelings. Bless You. You are a very emotionally strong individual because you still here and standing in your truth. Bless You!
I was 18 years old when this song came out! The entire album was nice! I love some Jessie Johnson! He can play that guitar! They were all very talented! Jessie, I see all the love for hot pink 💗 💕 💓!
Damn it man I'm 52 and love music so much, I can't believe I just found this Man!!!! This is so freaking smooth. I'll be playing this over and over for a couple of days I can already tell,
It’s truly a sad song about wanting someone so much you would allow yourself to be treated like dirt... been there and I love the song but I don’t wanna go back...
Wow....I remember when this came out 🥺 there are times when I have to turn off the songs from this time when they come on, because I yearn so much to be back there in that moment of carefree youth and promise, ..the nostalgia sometimes is so overwhelming that I get very emotional....so much so that I have to stop the music and take a walk outside to settle my emotions, and clear my head. If some magical being came to me and said " Hey!...I have a time machine I can make you that kid again and bring you back to 1983. All you have to do is give up everything you have now"... (and I have a LOT) the only thing that would prevent me from jumping in that machine are my kids.... (I cannot imagine life without them)...Other than that, I absolutely would give it all up.
When Jesse dropped his first album, I immediately bought it and played it everyday. In particular, “I Want My Girl.” That song was my favorite track on the LP…then the video came out and my brain melted. It was so cool and felt so much like the times we were living in. Jesse’s pink stylings influenced me then and now. I am still looking for the “throwback portal,” so I can relive those moments in real time. The 80s forever!
I want my girl to, my daughter had passed away in 2013; her mother had revealed to me and my daughter that I was was her biological father and she had kept the truth about it because she had feared that the man who had been a father to our daughter would might have walked out on them. It revealed to me in 2006. I was a big fan of the Minneapolis Sound (Lead by Prince and the Time). But that track I had miss. After her tragic auto accident on her back to Kansas City, after she had visit to LA (Where she had finally met most of her of my family and her brother and sisters), I heard this song on the radio. And broke down and cried for many days. That's what this song means to me.😪😣😱😪😭.
your story brought tears to my eyes but I'm glad you at least got to spend 7 years with her.im kinda on the opposite end of your story.i know my daughter is not my daughter but she still is my daughter.i don't know if I should ever tell her or what.your story makes me want to mention it .peace and love to you my brother.may she rest in peace
There was so much talent that came from that Minneapolis crew under Prince. Alexander O Neal was my favorite and so was Morris and his crew. They used to play this on the BIG DM Sumter/ Columbia S.C. back when I was in the Navy stationed out of Charleston. Those were the days!!!
Lol@The Big DM...I used to make/record mix tapes and slow jams off of that radio station back in the 80s. This was one of my favorite songs, too, back then and I remember recording it from the Love Power Hour that DM used to have at night!! Shout out to Chucktown, the Metro and Sumter, too!!😊
Beautiful song. The simplicity in the production, although dates it to the early to mid 80s, gives the song a purity and directness expressed in the lyrics. And a really nicely produced video, wouldn't we all want Jesse to release this officially on a collection remasters and restored? How great was Black American music before gangsta thug rappers... ahhh... Beautiful video. Super slick threads too Jesse .::Modernaire
Morris Day grew up in the projects, very low income, yet he enunciates and comports himself like he attended boarding school with the rich kids. Same with Diana Ross and too many others to count. Thanks for spoiling my day with a reminder of the trashy tattoo culture of hiphop that has replaced a once-beautiful culture.
I was 10 yrs old when this came out. I remember seeing all these teenage girls wearing "Jesse Johnson's Revue" T-shirts. I mean white, black, latino...everybody! Im like " who is this Jesse guy?" Lord....let me tell you.....when first saw THOSE EYES....Baby!!! That was it! ❤ JESSSSSAYY!!!! Ummmph, ummph, umph 😂
An absolutely exceptional song. This guy is so utterly ridiculous, so incredibly dynamic, his flow is awesome, the rhythm is sick, a truly beautiful song.
Omg! I remember this when i was a kid it brings back memories Miss that Minneapolis sound.Jessie was in Prince's group The Time .Jessie even sounds like Prince.💋
I love this song so much. Saw this video in 1985 from U68, a tiny cable whoknowswhat channel. I adore this song. The Prince influence is so strong, and that's what I love, too. Such an amazing track. Anything that man touched was simply marvelous. Loved Jesse's song on the Pretty in Pink soundtrack. God, I miss the 80s.
BK Lulu You brought back memories. I remember seeing this video on channel U68 too. We had to turn the channel knob to U. Then the other to 68. If you didn’t have cable at that time to watch music videos. U68 was the alternative. Thanks for the memories on this one. 👍🏾
Thing about it was Jessie is a Gemini just like Prince so he knew how to have his own style of sound! You may think it sounds like Prince because he was in his camp but Jesse actually came to the purple Clan from St Louis and had his own sound and style before he met mr. Prince
Hey, I remember watching U68 as a kid (Harlem World represent!). A much more diverse range of music videos than MTV at the time. But this video slipped my radar. I saw a lot of other cool ones back then from Prince to David Bowie to George Michael (#RIP all 3).
When I was little and saw Jesse Johnson videos or looked at his album covers (my dad was a big fan), I really thought Prince and Jesse was the same person--his skin was just darker sometimes for some reason (and when it was lighter, his music was louder lol). 😄
Hey Jesse, I’m still listening in 4/7/2024. I just love your music ❤️
