In my opinion Red Dead's water physics are the ones that can be seen the most, due to it being a game mostly based on its design and graphics Also, its third person, so its a lot more noticeable than other games
True, the animations help a great deal too. The fact that it's 3rd person isn't all. Because Rockstar's animation team on RDR2 are absolute masters of their craft, you really feel the weight of the water the deeper you go. Even on your horse, notice how the horse steps higher and higher the deeper you go. You slow down gradually, too. It's so impressive. This video didn't fully do it justice. It's pure eye candy when viewing a long cascading stream. It's even better on PC, with the water physics setting on the 2nd highest. Highest causes massive FPS drops, even on the best rigs, sadly.

@@cvspvr That's not realistic at all. I never liked the water effect in R* games because how unrealistic it is. The simulation is good, but the water layer looks...i don't know, too condensed. The only game in this list i think has the most realistic water is Watch dogs.

i think its a tie between crysis 3 and metro exodus for me. RDR2 has good water physics generally but has no smaller ripple detail, i believe that both crysis 3 and metro exodus fill these gaps.
Subnautica 2014 was Early Access. Release version is dec 2018. - Early Access means the game is not ready yet, including graphics. Steam page shows 2018 because this.

Cyberpunk 2077's water is the same as GTA 3's water only reflective and transparent but the behaviour is the same. Only big difference is V can swim whereas Claude can’t swim and vehicles sink in cyberpunk whereas they float in GTA 3.

In my book, Farcry/Crysis are the benchmark for gaming beauty. All jokes aside, how often do you go to any water in CP2077? I played the whole story twice and interacted with water only a few times. It's really not that important. No boating, no diving, no fishing; water is there mostly as a mapdesign obstacle to navigate around. CDPR had problems with development and bad marketing decisions already, I think "realistic water" was at the very bottom of their 'to do' list.
Just because you barely visit it, doesn't mean it can be in such a terrible state. Also, just like you said, theres nothing to do in water, which means theres a very missed opportunity there, its a game that came out in 2021, and like this video shows, many of this games have barely anything to do in water, but they still did it just right. "Not visiting it" its just an excuse, they were just lazy. They didn't care about details, which are something that people appreciate, cuz its like that last "chef kiss" you add to the food. And even if that wasn't the case, the main gameplay isn't a masterpiece.
LOL! Cyberpunk has no water physics. RDR2 is pretty impressive, cause the water at the surface is actually pushed and isn't given a ripple texture that 90% of games do.

Developers of cyberpunk 1977 were too lazy to add water, instead they added a reflective plain on the ground which has some wave animations.
