Thanks mate I just inherited a 2004 Ford Transit diesel and am not service savvy but your video has helped a pleb like me very much. Loved your easy going commentary too as I could completely comprehend what you were conveying. Cheers.
Firstly make the fuel filter is full to the top you may have to remove it for this. After a few turns of the engine it should hopefully fire up. Failing this crack open one of the injectors and crank the engine over until clear diesel runs through, do thus with all the injectors. I hope you get it started. And thanks for watching
When changing the fuel filter, fill the new filter with fresh fuel and it will start first time. The problem with the Air filter getting wet is common , what happends is the rubber seal at the top of the engine bay is not long enough and poorly designed. When it rains this seal directs the water to the ends one side is directely over the air box which has a poor seal. another tip is to look around the inner wing area where the airbox is located and see if theres any fabric sound insulation and the same on the other side. if there is get rid of it as this gets water logged and will rot out your inner wings, anougher bad Ford design.
Thanks, I've had both issues you mentioned, you may have spotted my other vid changing the front wing, I put a strong polythene bag over the air box and it seems to have been good since.
Hi is that small bottle where the button is for the fuel primer meant to be completely full of fuel ive been pushing the primer button but it's not drawing any more fuel into it my van cuts out and will only restart when I use easy start thanks.
@@madvr69 hi I ended up fitting a new fuel filter and it was fine after that my fuel gauge was reading wrong and ran empty that's when the air got into it there's a little bleeding nipping thing at the bottom of the fuel filter if you turn it you might be able to hear the air escape and then diesel will start to drip out
When someone has tightened the oil filter too much, it can be difficult to get the filter off, I had a similar problem with mine, 27Nm is just over nipped up, so why do people think it needs tightening to death? I was watching your video to see if I'll need to bleed the injectors after changing the fuel filter, I guess I will lol And clean the crap off the scuttle panel, leaves etc, as that can sometimes cause water to get in the filter housing, happens a lot on Vauxhall Vivaro/Renault Traffic/Nissan Primastar, on thise it drips down onto the injectors, making them impossible to get out, nice design eh. My air filter was similar to yours, but worse, it was the worst air filter I've ever seen, it had mould growing on it, lol Good video, my only comment would be to have shown the changing of the fuel filter, but that's because I wanted to see what problems you incurred. Thanks.
Thanks for your comment. My filming and editing is very poor, I really don't know why I didn't show the issue with the filter, probably covered in diesel and swearing a lot. The important thing is to make sure the new filter is properly filled up.
@@michelod.i.y.5202 Ha ha, I thought it might have been because of the swearing :) I want to upload a video my mate took of me doing the rear brake calipers on his Primastar, but I'm shit at editing, so you're better than me, I've not done the video editing yet lol
Great video mate, I purchased a cheap transit with no history last year and serviced it first thing when I got it. My air filter looked like yours but way worse, like an animal was inside dont think it was ever changed! Oil change every year and fluids topped up and these things can run for ages!
I Just crack open the nut where the fuel line joins the injector and turn the engine over until the diesel runs through without any air bubbles. I do this with all four starting at no.4.
@@michelod.i.y.5202 Hi Michelo, do you mean turn the engine over, like starting electronically and watching until fuel comes out? I am a beginner and I replaced the fuel filter. first time it started but then 2nd time it didn't. I also hear nothing is attempting as well. can you give e detailed description step by step? And how do I know all air is taken out?
@@leonvissers7021 first and foremost insure the new filter is full of new fuel. Then attempt to start the vehicle as you normally do. If this fails then start the bleeding process. Basically you are only slightly undoing the nut on the fuel line that goes into the top of the engine. Using the key turn the engine over until the air is expelled. Then retighten attempt to start the engine as normal, if this fails move on to the next line going into the cylinder.

Great video, clear commentary. Thanks so much for making this. Subbed too
Thanks, very much appreciated, more vids coming soon. Happy 2022.
nice guy .... interesting video
Hello how did you remove the air lock please. Have the same system. Keeps cutting out
Firstly make the fuel filter is full to the top you may have to remove it for this. After a few turns of the engine it should hopefully fire up. Nice video mate, just one question.. how did you remove and put back the fuel filter?, it can’t be seen in the video
Thanks for watching, to remove you simply pull it off. Turn the filter about 90 degrees to the right and it should then pull off.
When changing the fuel filter, fill the new filter with fresh fuel and it will start first time. The problem with the Air filter getting wet is common , what happends is the rubber seal at the top of the engine bay is not long enough and poorly designed. I want to know how U pick out the diesel filter ?
On mine it's about I 90 degree turn to the right and then pulls off. Thanks for watching.
Hi is that small bottle where the button is for the fuel primer meant to be completely full of fuel ive been pushing the primer button but it's not drawing any more fuel into it my van cuts out and will only restart when I use easy start thanks.
Just fill the filter full of diesel first hopefully this should do the trick
I tried pressing the button couldn't seem to work out it's purpose
Thanks for the reply ill give it a shot tomorrow thanks

How do you avoid airlock when replacing the diesel filter?
I found as long as you fill the new filter with fresh diesel before re-fitting, it seems to do the trick.
@@michelod.i.y.5202 Do you fill it to the top or only half way?

Since changing the air filter, I rapped the housing with a heavy duty plastic and it's been bone dry.

Perhaps the previous owner soked the air filter to save buying a new one?

theoretically your bleeding the fuel line, similar to bleeding brake lines.
