Thanks for such a great video packed with great advice and money saving and meal planning strategies. I just found your channel recently and like how you “connect the dots” by taking us shopping and making decisions in a realistic and practical way, showing how the clearance items were only a good deal for you if …… and then said why some were not.
@@susanbrenner900 thank you so much! I used to spend a lot on sale items until I realized things were going bad before I could use them 😬 Now I try to only take what we really need and it’s definitely helped me stay under budget.
I used to shop at Walmart but started going to Vons several years ago because I admitted to myself that I spent too much money outside of the food aisles at Walmart. I really like Vons now and don’t spend much at all, I just watch the sales. If I’m in Walmart for something else I’ll pick up a few food items but it’s 95% Vons for me now.
Your family sounds like mine when it comes to Christmas gifts - my daughter still talks about getting her "very own" jar of pickles when she was 7. I think it was a bigger hit than the toy pony.
People outside of CA keep saying that since Ralph’s must be cheaper since Kroger is cheaper where they are, not realizing that Ralphs in CA has never been a cheaper store.
I love shopping the clearance meats. The Monday after Thanksgiving was great. Everyone had been buying turkey so the store had too much of other cuts of meat
lol, the initial ad went straight to a shot of Wawa’s entrance… I thought this was a gas station grocery challenge at first😂.. could be interesting! Where my husband grew up there was a small diner and a gas station/ convenience store, and that was it, within a 15 mile radius
Added to say… I think this is what a large portion of the united states deals with in terms of getting groceries. Food deserts are so common. I think this fits into your niche as well!
I really appreciate your videos! I think Von's might be part of the Safeway corp, and Ralph's is under the Kroger umbrella. I bought a 15.5 lb turkey before Thanksgiving at Grocery Outlet...spend $35.00 and pay $3.99 for the turkey. My son cut it in half after it was thawed and we cooked both halves. We froze one cooked turkey breast. ... so far, turkey florentine soup, ... I bought too much heavy cream and needed to use it. Turkey wraps and sandwiches. Frozen cooked turkey for pot pie, stir fry, enchiladas, sandwiches. Our GO doesn't always have the best prices but I had to spend $35.00.. I was going to get that bird for our friends-giving! I walked every aisle at least 4 times to find items that I know we use and were lower than any other store and did good. I've now added GO to my stores list.
Thank you even living here on the East Coast this is helpful because I have a Shaw's market which is an affiliate of Albertson's the sales look the same

I think I need help! I love your videos and ideas! I went to Walmart southern California and I felt like it was so expensive! I did not feel like there were any deals. We live down the street from Ralph’s so that is my go to store. When I use the ads, coupons in the app and the mail coupons I feel like they have the best prices. When I go to Aldi, I feel like they don’t have everything I need. So I will have to go to a 2nd store. I’m a teacher, by the end of the day I’m tired and grocery shopping is not may favorite thing to do. I will keep watching you for more great ideas. 😊
It’s interesting how WalMart pricing can vary from region to region or city to city. I used to live in Kansas City and my WalMart was not the best prices but Aldi was. Now I live in SW Missouri and Walmart is best, followed by Dolllar General store brands then Aldi coming in 3rd. I keep a price list, checking the item prices online and the per oz costs of things I always buy.
@@susanbrenner900that is so true! Prices are out of control right now. Hopefully the will go down soon. I am going to make a list like you said to compare prices. ❤
@@KelliJensen-pk1tp oh wow! Thats so interesting! I feel like the sales are definitely the way to go! I don’t feel like our Walmart prices are that great either, except for a few items.
I find that Kroger is higher priced. Some items aren't too bad. Clearance and sales can be good. It's hit or miss. I have one next to a Meijer. I'll get the occasional good sale item. Most of my shopping is at Meijer. I use the apps and compare for both. I have a stocked pantry. I mostly buy staples that I need to get w stockup sales as needed.
Great video and discounts, but please be CAREFUL with WASABI POUDER. Don't feed that to your kids!! Try a tiny bit because IT'S HOT. Some people might be allergic to it like me and get in shock and breathing problems. Some can eat it like ketchup. But i know a couple of people who get ill. I used to make and eat Thai spicy curries so it's not that I can't stand heat. I hope you will enjoy it.
@@pigletsbank437 oh wow! Thank you for the tip! I definitely don’t give it my kiddos. They don’t care for spice much. My husband and I use it sparingly since it’s SO hot!
@LauraLegge than be wise and use it not to ofthen, like once a month or so, because you can build up an allergic reaction fairly quick. The more you get of one thing, the more it can trigger a reaction.
Our expensive grocery store in town is the BEST on meat clearance!! You just have to watch for it and not be tempted by the overpriced things LORD JESUS is KING of kings and LORD of lords!
What can they do? Tell the farmers not to pay the people who plant, harvest and pack the food? Tell the unionized workers at the cereal plant they only get federal minimum wage? The investors that they get no dividends? The grocery company, the store employees and the truckers that they get a permanent pay cut? Also controlling the weather so there are no freezes or droughts? I could go on but you see the problem. The best the incoming administration seems to have to offer is 25% tariffs on foods imported from Canada and Mexico. That is not going to help prices. If you can, grow some of your own food. That really isn't cheap either but for some items it can be. Also, a bread machine can be your best friend, even if you only use it to make the dough and bake traditionally.
"The government" cannot control food and consumer goods prices, nor should they. What we buy in the stores is the final destination for goods that have been harvested, manufactured and imported. Employees need to be paid a decent wage. Farmers need to buy supplies and hire employees. Union workers deserve fair wages. Investors help corporations stay in business and grow and want their dividends. The federal minimum wage needs to be increased and some states need to increase their wage laws. Prices are not going to go down and shouldn't because deinflation is worse that inflation. In fact, prices are going up because corporations, small businesses, manufacturing plants, farmers, etc., are getting ready for promised tariffs, and other promises, which *will* increase prices of everything we buy. Laura has excellent advice. Watch her and follow her practices.
@@tamaraliscia3408 exactly. I put it negatively, to show that aspect and you've put the positive spin on, as positive as is possible. Between the two we have it covered. If only more people saw it. If it's devastating over the next year, year and a half the voters will have an opportunity to make changes during the midterm elections. And with luck a more reasonable candidate, from either party, who understands the needs of most of us will become president in 4 years. Fingers crossed on that one.
