    Instead of buying books, visit your local public library! Libraries are wonderful and fun places and little Oliver will love the children's programming. You'll want to raise him to be a lifelong public library user, so no time like the present! I read a lot and get ALL my books from our local library. And yes, I'm a librarian. 😂

    You mentioned buying clothes for who we used to be. One of the most helpful things I ever heard, regarding downsizing, purging, becoming minimalist or saving money, was don't indulge the idealistic version of yourself. We all have a vision of what we'd be and how we'd live if life didn't get in our way. I've parted with so many of the tangible items tied to that vision of myself. All the supplies for crafts I never got around to doing, the cooking and baking (especially holiday) items I didn't use. Sure, I want to make sweet, meaningful gifts and yummy Christmas treats. There was that video in my head of me being so, so creative and not stressed by those crafty commitments. Reality tends to be much different. Kids, work, community, church.......yeah, nobody is getting Croquembouche from me for Christmas. Or probably ever. I try to be mindful of who I am, what season of life I am in, to just be present and to attend to those current needs and maybe a few wants. I don't have room for all the paraphernalia the ideal me would need in my life, my house OR my brain.

      Hi thank you so much for sharing this. I really appreciated your words and honestly I needed to read these words today. It's so easy for me to get into a fantasy world when I look at influencers on social media that dress trendy and I have been guilty of buying these items then realizing it's not the "real me". I what you said was so good, about not indulging in the idealistic version of myself. This year my goal is mindfulness to think more about purchases and also think if this is the real me or a "fantasy me". 😊

    Low buy year 2025 with spouse and toddler♡Reasons: 1.Tired of always wanting more and not being content. 2. Exhausted of always shopping in-person or online so much/dissociation. 3.Putting too much importance on things. 4.Comparing too much/ seeking approval.
    5. Delay gratification and dopamine hits. 6.Impulse buys, guilt, returns/declutter. 7.Pay off the brand new truck sooner than expected (only debt) (2nd vehicle is paid off). 8. Build our savings higher. And i made a rules of yes and no for myself and got a budget app. Thank you

    At the beginning of 2024, I made a list of 24 things I wasn't going to buy. I kept track of my fails. It wasn't great, it wasn't horrible, but it definitely made me much more aware! Books and candles were on my list last year, I did well on the books until recently, but not going to beat myself up over it. I have a list of 25 for 2025, but I'm also aiming for buying way less and only shopping in thrift stores for fun shopping. No more candles!

    I gave up buying seasonal decor (aka clutter items). Simplicity for me. I want a space I don't have to curate as if I'm a merchandiser working a department store window every month. That stuff just piles up over time, costs $$$$ that is better used elsewhere, and less stuff/clutter is better, I find.

    I’m with you on not buying new baby clothes with the only exception being a few basics. Most of my baby’s wardrobe is secondhand except for a few Burt’s Bees Baby sleepers (they’re the best, I shop their clearance sales, and the only ones long enough for her). We bought most of her wardrobe for the first year before she was born because I knew I would want to stay out of thrift stores until cold and flu season was over, so we really don’t need much of anything. What I have needed I got on ThredUp or Burt’s Bees Baby.

    You have really inspired me over the years to purchase less and use up what I have. A few years ago I decided to use up all my journals before I purchased any new ones. I have only had to buy a couple when I run out. And then when I get them gifted to me, I don’t have to go and get new ones! I can keep the gifted ones in a space so when I use one up, I can grab some from my stock. And I only purchase a new one when I NEED a new one. I journal almost every day so it’s so hard for me to pass up on a cute journal, but it’s really helped me not to have extra clutter or spend too much money in that area.

    • @MusikGirl23
      @MusikGirl23 19 дней назад

      YES! I probably have 20 journals of various sizes to go through before I’d have to buy any more. I also journal almost every day and use them for my to-do lids but I definitely need to use a number of them before buying anymore. Even dollarama ones add up!

    This year I spent so much money on ordering Instacart and take outs. I had a baby on February and it was just easy clicking it with a button. Next year, now that my baby will be a year on February I want to spend more time home cooking and going myself to buy the food.
    I also like the idea of not buying any make up until I use up what I already have. 😊

    I have been taking my kids to the library since they were babies to dry to help them to develop a fondness for reading. This was also a way for me to save money on buying books, which I noticed were so expensive 😭 every book is now $10 and more. Now, this is just a fun practice and we learn about even more free community events!
    Reading all these comments gives me hope that libraries are going to be go-to spots for kids and teens again. Please visit your local libraries! The more you check out books, the more they need they see. They can get more funding for new books, programs, events, etc.

    Myself and the kids have too many clothes, we thrift and bought a lot ,so we do not need to buy any or shoes. Dishes a s bakeware, I bought things I love and don't need more. Blankets. New gifts, we want to focus and thrifted gifts this year to reuse what's out there. Decor, I could actually declutter as i purchased more vintage decor and love it better. No need for books I have about 60 to get through.

    I will cut back on my Amazon purchases. I will admit that I am guilty of purchasing something from there that I haven’t saved up for. I tend to cook my own meals, and make my own snacks (fruit and nuts), so I will continue that starting Jan. 2025. My goal is to have a low-buy year. I would like to start my online savings buckets back up, and put some money towards each bucket bi-weekly. I will focus on writing my budget bi-weekly so that I can see how much I can contribute into each account. I am also focused on getting out of debt.

    My husband and I agreed that we needed to tighten our finances this year especially after buying a new car. 😅 One main thing we noticed was we also got comfortable and started to order out a lot, also before we used to split meals when going out with friends ans lately we have each had our own meal. It adds up quickly! So we decided to cook out meals from home and only go out to eat 2 times a month. 1 of his choice 1 of my choice. If we do get invited to go out with friends on rare occasions we agreed we would split a meal. 😊
    Your video inspired me to make my own no buy list for 2025! Thank you!

    I’m definitly buying books next year, I did get a Kindle on my birthday so I will buy more books on that instead of physical copies. I always do a no spend in the beginning of the year from january to february or march depending on how long it takes to declutter the house and use up food from our pantry, fridge and freezer. I really enjoy doing this every new year. I always try to not buy candles, tea and notebooks but the struggle is real 😅 I’m only allowed to buy when there is an actual need. I did buy some lovely christmas tea from Yogitea the other day when I ran out. I do keep a wishlist for items I think I need and usually ask for those items for my birthday and christmas. I find writing it down really helps if there is a shopping itch.

    I felt God challenge me to give up Netflix for a season, as I was binge watching, it was just too easy. I replaced it with reading, and joined my library. I love reading but was distracted by Netflix. I wanted to read Christmas books, but don’t see the point in buying them. I took screenshots of the books in my local supermarket and managed to find them all in the library. Three done, three to go, costs me 85p to borrow as they had to be put be brought in from another library, but so worth it.

      You can melt them down on your stovetop using a double boiler. Just use 1 deep dish frying pan filled halfway with water 2 raw wax candles without coverings can be placed in a second, smaller pot and melted down. If it’s already in a jar there’s no need for the second pot, but the heat should be lower. Use thick thread (3 threads tied together) and chopsticks to make sure it’s centered. Put in freezer until solid.

      Thanks! The strategy was all thanks to Lorrie Greta Hillard, a brilliant financial advisor. She helped me create a personalized budgeting plan, track my expenses, and prioritize savings effectively. Her expertise made all the difference in reaching my financial goals!

    I am the exact same with books - I want to read more but struggle to find the time to fit it in! I am very much hoping to read the books I’ve accumulated over the last couple of years. Same with lip balm/gloss, etc. I have way too many and feel guilty as I know I won’t be able to finish them all before they expire 😢 but I will at least not purchase any more.

    Not exactly not buying but I have been reducing the random stock of lotions and soaps that I have been just carrying from apartment to apartment for years finally finishing some of the lotions and no longer have a whole shampoo conditioner set just sitting on the shelf being passed over

    There are websites where you can stream audiobooks in perfect quality for free if you know where to look. You can stream them or download them to listen to them later.
    I see that you use tea bags to make your tea, there are lovely sieves (?) you can get that you can use forever instead :) The bags are very convenient tho, especially when travelling.

      It really just depends on the category. For example, I’m not planning to buy any plants in the upcoming year. But with some of them it’s just not practical for me not to buy anything at all, like baby clothes. My child has to be able to wear something 😅

    • @Chloe_335
      @Chloe_335 Месяц назад +2

    not buying baby clothing will be a hard one for me 😅 mostly because they outgrow so quickly so i’m constantly having to buy his normal wear clothes every other month!
