In total madness, Tori also played scared trying to get an easy red skull against Jen. Then tried to go against Jenna, who she thought was checked out and ended up losing.
CT was the only man on season 37 with a championship to his credit, and none of these boys had the guts to get rid of him. They will sing his praises and/or argue with him for a storyline, but they aren't about no action.
I'm so glad you're calling out Devin. I'm not a fan of him, never have been but even I knew he didn't always play scared. So it surprises me how he was in season 37
It’s a shame I was really starting to like Devin because he was amazing on Double Agents and even at the start of SLA he seemed to be the same. But then just a little bit later it all changed.
I think there are four versions of a scared game that covers each level of fear. Scared Game 1: the THOUGHT of losing an enlimation especially close to a final Scared Game 2: talking a big game but not having any real confidence to back it up Scared Game 3: not taking a shot at a big competitor in fear of the backlash Scared Game 4: criticizing others of playing a scared game while playing a scared game
In battle of the ex’s where Diem and Chris sent in Dunbar and Paula, it had more to do with friendship than actual gameplay. Johnny and Diem were friends. While she was battling cancer, his best friend lived a few doors down from D. So he would visit and make sure she was taking her medication. I forgot where I saw CT say that but yeah, he said he understood. He didn’t like it at the time, but he understood
I'm glad you bought up Dario and Nicole, because I saw that as the biggest coward move in challenge history. Especially since Nicole knew she was stabbing her cousin in the back for third place money 💯😤
Ok my opinion of a scared game is when people never make big moves and always talk a lot and never back it up like fessy josh nany rogan Paulie I love Nelson but the moves he makes isn’t the best moves
Every time I watch total madness I think to myself "if only the first elimination was fessy vs jay we may have never seen fessy again' jay would have beaten fessy. Opportunity missed. Can you imagine if jay took out fessy and CT back to back lol
41:45 Diem didn’t want to pick Johnny and Camila because Johnny was there for Diem outside of the game when it came to her cancer and her illness. He’d visit often, take her to doctors appointments, and do other stuff. They were close and she didn’t want to screw him like that.
I think the Jonna instance was scared gameplay, but she made up for it in All Stars 3 when she openly admitted to being scared of elimination in the past and that she had to steel herself to go into elimination and prove herself which she did end up doing and it helped her a LOT in the final.
This was *super* interesting to listen to because I never really thought about the logistics of a “scared game” with much depth- loved your analysis!!!! 😄
Bananas always says the rookies look to the vets on how to play. which makes me appreciate those players like wes who try to unite the rookies against the vets its needed for the quality of the show. Knowing that wes produces himself i now wonder is this done partly for that reason
Great topic!!! You cover a lot of what I consider a scared game. Scared game is if you’re a rookie and you see that the vets are voting for all rookies…you realize that but don’t do anything but just run with it as long as it’s not you. Another scared game is you (Theresa) rally up everyone in the house to vote for someone and when they do….you burn your vote so you don’t blood in your hand. Another one, you’re on a team, because the numbers of weak players on your team and your ties to the other team you vote off your strong members on your team, destroying your own team and at the same time helping the opposing team. Last one, it’s not really a scared game but weak game mindset….trying to just make the final is a victory instead of not trying to win the season.
I absolutely love you for trying to talk about aspects of the game that others haven't and trying to define these aspects of the game. It's a pioneer move and I'm here for more content like this.
These situations where "scared gameplay" represents "not being the first to break from your formed alliance" feels a bit cheap, because then you're in a whole new "players who've succeeded breaking their alliances" group, which is pretty thin.
As far as the guys in total madness goes, no one played more scared than josh, the guy was constantly saying that he wanted to go into elimination and get his red skull but would back out at the last minute.
I agree with your choices but I'd also add 1) Tyler Duckworth in The Deul, I mean it was his first season and when it was his turn to pick anyone he picked his Real World castmate, Johnny Bananas, who was playing his 1st season as well. 2) The Ruins, Kenny played a scared game throughout it as well, he refused to put himself in elimination but made his Friend, Johnny Bananas go into the last elimination against Dunbar. 3)Cuthroat Paula, Johnny Bananas, and Brad all played scared games throught this season for multiple reasons 4) Rivals 2: Johnny Bananas and Frank played a scared game Paula played great game but totally played a total scared game when it came down to the last womens elimination Diem played a scared game as well when it came down to the last womens elimination. Bc originally she told CT and Wes if she goes into elimination she wanted to go against the best team to eliminate them from the Final, however when the possibility that Paula and Emily could be chosen as her opponents she backtracks to Wes and CT and admits she said that but she never thought Paula and Emily would be an option so her reasoning di6esnt apply now. Which is why in my opinion it was scared gameplay bc you cant say something and then say I didnt mean that and then get pissed off at the people who are doing what u originally wanted them to do. 4) johnny Bananas pretty much plays a scared game every season he was in since the beginning of the Island however his worst showing if it had to have been battle of the Exes 2 or the Vendettas season
On the last main season of the Challenge... everyone played a scared game besides Amanda and CT. It made me stop watching the show and I just watched Angle Cake review and recap for that whole season.

I think a scared game is hard to recall off-hand but in my mind it's when a player is coasting and doesn't aim to make any kind of move that could better their position. This usually happens a lot with "numbers" players who aren't the leading mind of their alliance, Leroy has definitely been there before in the past for example. Being scared in general and playing a scared game isn't the same thing.
It all comes to expectations, what u think u can achieve and what happens during the game, I will always the best game tactic I ever saw in this Challenges was Devyn in free agents, she knew where her strengths where and what she was lacking, so all she wanted to do is reach that final and finish it no matter what and get the money, which she did by playing the game right and making good decisions. Now let's take Leroy for example every season he went on he had a shot a winning the game but instead he would get lost in the politics and BS of his friend (especially in vendetta where he basically where hoping Cara Maria would give him a free pass instead of Kyle), but when he decided to actually play the game seriously instead of relying on seconds hands out he outclassed everyone in Double Agent if not for CT he could have won the all thing. This is why is so refreshing seeing someone like Tyson play he knows he can dominate but instead of being too afraid to stand out he goes after the best result for himself first, in the end of the day the best play is to win cause even alliances can betray each other
normally Id be like you didn't choose to step up to this or choose to face this person as scared but one thing I do find to be a scared game was Amanda picking to face Tori in the last elimination in spies lies and allies and not Nany. Amanda knew that Nany was the weakest among the women there yet she decided to pick the best woman there in Tori cause she's so hooked on friendship from what I recall and that to me is scared
Well I mean she was the only one on this season who called out the person she had a problem with, she knew she was gonna lose, n still called out tori when she could’ve called out nany the weaker player. Idk if it was just her ego or she genuinely didn’t gaf atp but it wasn’t a scared game move
@@kaleebbarrett4953 she still had a shot in the final unlike Nany and plus I bet that she would probably do well there like Devin if she did pick to face Nany in the elimination
Well I know Amanda had to be back home a certain day from filming cause of custody issues with her son and if she wasn’t back in time she would’ve had to go to court. And Amanda was already cutting her time close cause of filming being delayed due to nam testing positive for Covid while filming and she made it basically til the end.

One moment that I consider a "scared move" was in Final Reckoning with Kam. She pulled off a big move getting everyone to burn votes on each other, however her targets were the rookies of the house (Da'Vonne Jozea Angela & Faith), who had no alliances besides to each other and Angela with Bananas. They were already targets, especially Da'Vonne and Jozea, since they kept returning from the redemption house. So what was the point of that? All four of them were gonna keep getting chosen for eliminations until they went home, and neither pair were dominating challenges.

There are a lot of phrases/sayings that get thrown around in The Challenge house too loosely. Playing a "Scared Game", I think, means different things to different people, & people use it to fit their own narrative. I think people say "scared" when they mean "smart or cautious". Like when Sarah & Jordan threw Johnny & Nany into the last elimination of Ex's 2. Wtf did he expect her to do??!! It was literally the last strategic move of the game. They worked together the whole season, did what they could for each other, & eventually you have to put yourself in the best possible position to win. That's not playing "SACRED", it's playing "SMART". And even if you don't agree w/that do you really think, rolls reversed, they wouldn't have thrown Jordan & Sarah in??? There's NOTHING Johnny wouldn't do to any castmate, or anyone else for that matter, to win. I have no doubt Johnny would step over his own mother to win if he had to. He's a sociopath & has no soul.... Anyway, done ranting. That's my take on "SCARED" game play
You should consider a scare game/play is kaycee and fessy constantly saying they can’t trust amber b because they kept saying her name into elimination and they were scared that when amber b had power that she would vote them in and she never did and she also never anything to show she was not trustworthy if anything amber b was wanting to be in an alliance with them but kaycee and fessy were both still salty that amber b became a champ on her rookie season and they couldn’t so to me they play scared thinking amber b would throw them in if she had power but never did
Finally someone acknowledging that Gabby putting herself in against one of her few allies left, would have been so cold. Nobody would trust her after that. Was silly the reaction she got. 🤷♀️🤷♀️
I love this video! Thank you for finally putting a definition to 'playing a scared game' 😀 I always find it so funny that challengers will throw out that comment about OTHER people, but never own up to it themselves! (Although, I guess the exception would be Rogen saying, "Our team is playing a somewhat scared game, myself included.") Also, love your bright shirt in this video! 😁
I think the major difference between Dario in Rivals 3 and Devin is that Devin as the emerald cell legitimately had a chance to win the whole thing. (Under the assumption that the final would be in teams) They dominated majority of the dailies so you could assume they had a great shot if it continued. Dario on the other hand knew damn well he and Nicole stood no chance so I don’t think it’s scared to accept reality as it is
And you’re totally right about Jordan v Johnny. They always replay Jordan flipping the cards, never Johnny at the top with Jordan at the bottom. The loss is history. The flipping of the cards is iconic. (Thanks to design, this helped Jordan a lot considering it was technical a “dumb” move)
Unpopular opinion: Theresa made a slick smart move. Would've went perfect had Devyn not told on her. Who cares if the others were mad, Laurel was the only one in that house she had reason to fear and she almost cleanly skated out of her crosshairs.
I haven’t finished watching yet so idk if you mention it but my biggest call for scared playing is FESI CALLING NELLY TO THE ELIMINATION. What a scared P***Y move!
To me a part of a scared game is not making moves you know will benefit you just because you don’t want anyone in the dominant alliance to not like you emphasis on not like you because you know you’re getting voted in by them eventually
i have to disagree, Paulie was afraid of kyle. He hid behind cara for not going into elimination. He also only steps up when security is present. If you look at the clips he looks around for security. So Pauline is fake to me. Now if it was a puzzle or something none physical I would agree.
I dont think all of the men for The Gauntlet were scared because several I believe it was CT and Bananas were continuously saying that he should go in.
In regards to the Tony/Bananas vs ammo elimination. I think the quote from Challenge USA of “taking a shit at someone by calling out their ally” applies here. Make Bananas weaker by taking out his Scottie Pippin who is more likely to lose to Ammo. Not perfect gameplay as anything can happen in an elimination but I get the thinking there
Not surprised to see Fessy here; he’s not very smart, he made one of the worst moves in Big Brother history in his season and nothing has changed since he’s been on the challenge lol
The thing with Paulie I don't think it was scared gameplay because if you would have thought about it had Paulie went out there and won he wouldn't have gotten any credit for it simply people talking shit about how he only won because Kyle was already injured at the time. So yes I think he made the right choice.
I will say this before I watch the video completely I don't think anyone who doesn't want to go into an elimination playing a scared game because then every single person will be on this at some point. It's normal for no one to want to go into an elimination simply because they are always at risk of going home. Now if they are already in the elimination ring is a different story.
All of Bananas minions played a scared game against Wes all the time. Zach, Leroy, Jordan, Johnny Reilly. They just did whatever Bananas wanted and ganged up on Wes.
For me a scared game/player is when someone isn’t taking the shot for THEIR game instead they choose to stick to the house and when they they are given a golden opportunity to take that big move and they chicken out
Also what I wish each season has it that you @ least have tot win an elimination to earn a spot in a final. Ik this is basically the skull twist but with not skulls. I am just tired of people floating to the end *cough Nany cough* . I need these people to prove themselves
Rivals III was my first season I ever watched of the challenge and as a huge Cory fan, I hated wth a passion Dario and Nichole for the bs they pulled at the end, trading up just to maybe come in 3rd( which they couldn’t even do 💀😂)
That’s why Jordan is a lot better competitor than Paulie while what Jordan did wasn’t smart it did prove that he wasn’t all talk that he will back it while what paulie did was considered smart (even though it didn’t mattered because he choked before the final like he always does) this just cemented and proved that paulie is all talk and won’t back it up
Idk if I’m biased but I don’t think CT was playing a scared game in WOTW2. He was part of CMs alliance, and even if he would have gone down there, he would have won. His play in recent years is ALWAYS to go with the flow, or the numbers, or whatever vote that weeks tribunal or power couple is asking (see double agents, always voted for who the DA wanted the house to vote for). That plus the CM/Paulie alliance secured him till the end where he always then completes his power move of the season. It’s not scared because he has nothing to prove. He doesn’t make himself a target because he’s enough of a target on his own. Disappearing is his thing now.
DRAG DEVIN. I was so annoyed with him when he went after Tori. That was such BS. Dee was such a disappointment. She really had a lot going for her but she wanted to be on Rogan the whole time. CT was disappointment on season 34 as well. I wish he made better moves early on. I am glad that he did decide to save Tori in that elimination. And it's always Fuck Fessy.
I think its unfair that MTV isnt clear about the Finals being run by teams or individuals. I think players would take more risks getting rid of people if they could plan it out til the end.
Don’t ever bad mouth CT. if only rookies are left I click off. There are only a few Rookies worth watching. The Queens of scared are the disgusting Kailah, Beth, Amanda and Jemme. There are a few more. Booooo Yes Devin is the scared guy. He is only puzzle worthy.
The truth is that because of this tactic; CT, Bananas, Wes & Jordan have thrived in this era. Jamie, Hunter, Turbo and Rogan are the only males to have won since Exes.😓 For the females: Ashley (twice) Kaycee and… DEE🤬 are the only ones to have succeeded in recent memory.
The Teresa not voting laurel thing is so annoying! Spearhead the votes to make it happen. It is a smart move to try to get laurel out! I can respect that. BUT where it falls apart for me is just not saying her name! Everyone else already voted so Teresa wouldn’t have been the sole target of laurel. Devyn probably wouldn’t have said it was Teresa’s plan if Teresa had just said laurels name! But instead she didn’t want the blood on her hands and lost to laurel in the end. So dumb lol
There is no such thing as a scared game they are trying to go to the final to win a prize. The objective is to stay out of elimination or win eliminations. Then get to the final and win the cash. I believe in playing smart or dumb but not scared.
dickmatized is my fav new phrase, but yeah dee and rogan together were so insufferable. I dont care for the drama side of the show but i especially dont give a fuck about weird love triangle relationship nonsense
I soft disagree on your point about not seeing an elimination. while the smart move is to avoid eliminations people purposely playing middle of the road not being last or first imo is a scared game. dont bother coming on a competition game show if youre not gonna try and compete
Just watching thismmakes me think of how much time has changed you csnt even refrence someone as fat because its to much to say .. thats why the world is weak ...

I agree
Thank you for finally putting a definition to 'playing a scared game' 😀
I always find it so funny that challengers will throw out that comment about OTHER people, but never own up to it themselves! (Although, I guess the exception would be Rogen saying, "Our team is playing a somewhat scared game, myself included.")
Also, love your bright shirt in this video! 😁
I will like to say that the whole cast of season 39 are playing a scared game
Omg that’s my Reddit post bahahah , thanks for including it in the video!!! 😂
For Dirty 30 they didn't know about the Redemption House at the moment Nelson decided to pick Tony to go against Ammo.
What if The Gauntlet 3 final rules applied to Cutthroat. Cara, Laurel & Luke would've lost in they finished first.
#1 scared game player in challenge history is Jemmye. Never wants to go into elimination, tries to skate thru every season
The fear in those big frog eyes is real.
I haven’t finished watching yet so idk if you mention it but my biggest call for scared playing is FESI CALLING NELLY TO THE ELIMINATION. What a scared P***Y move!
Not Drew calling out CT by first name. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Not perfect gameplay as anything can happen in an elimination but I get the thinking there
A note on Total Madness: the Banana/Rogan blindside was putting Dee in against Mattie.
Thereza, fussy, even tho Kenny was a pretty good challenger always played a scared game too
we need dirty 40 for season 40 but before that happens we need cutthroat 2 and rival 4 season
It's a video about "scared" and he's wearing a courage the cowardly dog shirt lmao.
Paulie played a smart game on wotw 1, he learned from Jordan not to throw yourself into the elimination
I think there’s people that make scared moves (avoiding certain eliminations for example) and playing an entire scared game (what Devin did)
First thing I saw when I clicked this video was how good you look...pink looks good on you man 👨 loving it
I will say this before I watch the video completely I don't think anyone who doesn't want to go into an elimination playing a scared game because then every single person will be on this at some point. It's normal for no one to want to go into an elimination simply because they are always at risk of going home.
Now if they are already in the elimination ring is a different story.
Rogan gave Bananas permission to throw Dee in against Mattie not Jenny.
“Ernest Scared Stupid” gave me major nightmares and I 🤮 in the theaters Hahhaha
All of Bananas minions played a scared game against Wes all the time. Zach, Leroy, Jordan, Johnny Reilly. They just did whatever Bananas wanted and ganged up on Wes.
Jordan beefed with wes and bananas
For me a scared game/player is when someone isn’t taking the shot for THEIR game instead they choose to stick to the house and when they they are given a golden opportunity to take that big move and they chicken out
Also what I wish each season has it that you @ least have tot win an elimination to earn a spot in a final. Ik this is basically the skull twist but with not skulls. I am just tired of people floating to the end *cough Nany cough* . I need these people to prove themselves
Can you please do like an essay on your favorite challengers or like who you think is the best of the best
Rivals III was my first season I ever watched of the challenge and as a huge Cory fan, I hated wth a passion Dario and Nichole for the bs they pulled at the end, trading up just to maybe come in 3rd( which they couldn’t even do 💀😂)
great video
I think doing a least scared list would be entertaining
Don't get me started on the CT and Diem move. Ty and Emily were extremely strong, they could have taken out Johnny and bananas honestly.
To me the biggest crybaby in the game was Johnny Bananas he was always playing a scared game in every season he was in
And idk how sending jay in 3x isn’t scared but cautious. 1 or 2 times fine, get the rookie treatment. But a third time?? Like get the dam skull!
Can we also note, if Wes had seen more eliminations and been taken out in AS3, Brad would have 100% won this season.
No matter what Drew says we have now confirmed that he is a Paulie apologist. lol.
The truth is that because of this tactic; CT, Bananas, Wes & Jordan have thrived in this era. Jamie, Hunter, Turbo and Rogan are the only males to have won since Exes.😓
For the females: Ashley (twice) Kaycee and… DEE🤬 are the only ones to have succeeded in recent memory.
Rogan on war of the worlds 2
It would be harder to find a person who doesn’t play a scared game
Anyone who isnt playing to win, is playing a scared game.
Pauline(yes that’s spelt correctly )is all talk I hope we don’t see her again
Theresa
That Theresa move was incredibly dumb. I think she was trying to save face honestly.
I soft disagree on your point about not seeing an elimination. while the smart move is to avoid eliminations people purposely playing middle of the road not being last or first imo is a scared game. dont bother coming on a competition game show if youre not gonna try and compete
the challenge multiverse.
I hate the idea thst medical DQ dopm you to not be able to win
I don’t want someone new if they are from the Survivor group except Desi and Chris. The rest Bye.
Why don't you go on the Challenge since you want to understand it so bad? 💀🤔
That’s all the challenge is today 😂
Justice for Jay!!!
Just watching thismmakes me think of how much time has changed you csnt even refrence someone as fat because its to much to say .. thats why the world is weak ...
PAULA
I’ve always found CT to be playing a scared game
The challenge USA doesn't play scared.
Devin = 🐈🐓
36 & 37 were such poor seasons competition and format wise. Easiest money CT has ever won in his life.
