  • In this video, I walk through how to reinstall an ECU which has been remapped and clear the fault codes caused by the new map.
    The remap was done by the guys at Wiz Performance in the UK, and I had the newly flashed ECU back within 3 days of sending it out!
    The main perks of the new map on the XSR are:
    Less engine braking (feels like about one gear above), making cornering feel a lot more controlled;
    Smoother throttle roll on after coming off the gas (jerky action gone), especially apparent in the lower gears;
    More linear acceleration through the mid range, with more power due to the fuelling being corrected;
    The code reader I used was a Can OBD 2 (MS309) which had a Yamaha plug spliced onto it - this was available to buy from Wiz Performance along with the map.
    Thanks for watching, and if you want to see more how to videos, tours, projects and much more, click subscribe, or head over to my Instagram @ballamoto.
    Ride Safe!

    Great and usefull vid man. As you said the engine braking is too hard in this bike and very jerky trhortle in first gears... too prone to wheelys 😨😨
    I guess with these remaps you Yamy is less yumpy and smoother... First time i take the xsr the front wheel was floating in the air😜😜 Thanks again bro

    Hi man, what prompted you to get the ECU remapped? It’s something I wouldn’t have even been aware of prior to seeing this video.

    • @ballamoto
      @ballamoto  3 года назад +1

      Mainly the snatchy throttle at low RPM, and the huuuuuge engine braking (as well as upgrading the exhaust, and so should really remap the fuel to air ratio)... So I started reading up on it, and the map came up. The guys developing the map had the same idea, that the throttle response just wasn't perfect, so they fixed it. And man did they fix it. What a difference!

      @@ballamoto wow, I wouldn’t have even thought/known that would be electronically controlled...I would’ve completely assumed that it was a mechanical characteristic. Cheers for the reply dude, insightful 👌🏻

    • @ballamoto
      @ballamoto  3 года назад +1

      @@TheDanpearcedp no worries! Same here at first. But it's called a decel cut. And because its fuel injection, not a carburettor, they control how much fuel trickles in when you close the throttle, and if it cuts completely then its all down to the engine characteristics, which on the xsr gives heavy engine braking. Whereas with the map, they change timing of the injectors shutting off, allowing a smoother deceleration.
      Clever stuff! Same with the snatchy throttle at low RPM. It's so worth it.
      When I roll off the throttle, it feels like I'm a gear up from standard, which is a lot smoother! But then obviously when I hit the gas, all the power is instantly there still!

    Hey I’m thinking of doing this to my XSR soon. Back when you had your ECU flash did you also disconnect the O2 sensor or do any air box mods? Just wondering if it was simply ECU remapping that gave the smoother throttle response you mentioned :)

    • @ballamoto
      @ballamoto  2 года назад +1

      Just the map (with aftermarket exhaust). No mods to Air box, and no need to remove the O2 sensor as I believe they disable it in the map 🤔 could be wrong, but either way it can be left in place

    Do you know if the warranty gets removed if I do this? Got a 2020 just bought it so not sure yet. I had Akrapovic fitted by Yamaha themselves and they said the warranty won’t be affected by just swapping the exhaust via them. He also said I wouldn’t need a retune at all as the bike adapts, only a few cases where they have had to do a remap/tune. The mt07/xsr700 are a bit twitchy though but gotten used to it so maybe in the future this could be a great option 😁

    • @ballamoto
      @ballamoto  4 года назад +1

      A lot of people ask this. I believe technically it will void the warrenty - however, you may be able to flash it back to standard if necessary. I know the place I used (Wiz Performance) will do future alterations for free if you cover postage of the ECU!
      The Akras are yamaha approved without remapping, but as mentioned, the map is to more sort out the twitchy throttle etc.
      I would have a chat with the dealer, and the tuners to get an idea of how it will affect warranty.
      But I highly recommend! It's like a new bike!

    • @Skuglyft
      @Skuglyft 4 года назад

      BallaMOTO Thanks! I will definitely have a chat with them if they can sort something out perhaps and also ask about the warranty if I do it via another company. A smoother throttle would make this bike a 10/10 😁

      @@ballamoto Thanks mate. Much appreciated.
      2 questions, after having gone to their site:
      1. Is the process that you take the ECU out, pay wizperformance, they ship you a bag or something and you ship the ECU to them, and they ship it back to you, flashed?
      2. Do I have to specify something? The site says either they do a Standard-Full Exhaust or for Standard-SlipOn. I will be keeping the stock exhaust, so should I select their Standard-FullExhaust or...?
      I basically will want to just make the throttle less snatchy and less annoying (needing less clutch feathering) at low revs.

      @@fahdiqbal2221 to answer your questions:
      1) the process is that you pay, and then just ship off the ECU to them (no need to wait for a bag) with a note with your order number, and then they will send it beck very quickly. I would recommend sending special delivery so it's insured up to £500, and also select special delivery for the return.
      2) I would email them to ask, and then if they can do a map with the stock exhaust, just select the option they suggest, and include a note reminding them when you send it off! 👍
