- James bought his XSR700 six months ago and hasn’t looked back, making a few modifications along the way including an Akropovich MT07 exhaust and wrapping the tank. His previous bikes had the same unreliable trait, so with his new Yamaha XSR700 he managed to do a long-awaited motorcycle trip to The Scottish Highlands and has a fair few plans for customising the bike in the New Year.

kidding me? the bucket lights make the bike a unique and retro appeal. i luv it to death
Yeah! That was the whole point to differentiate XSR from mt07. How this dude doesn't know that
So how about an update video for this?
I’m Probably the only one who actually likes the headlight haha
Even in its current state, the bike looks really sharp. I look forward to seeing your modifications. Have fun, man!
Best bike of the bunch on this channel ironically
Nice bike...and proper enthusiasm too! Steve
Man, that exhaust sounds great.
One of best looking headlights ever, but its just my opinion. I wouldn't change it. Great lookong bike. Regards from Poland
I agree, I think the stock headlight housing really balances out the proportions of the bike. Those stubby ones kind of make it look too bulky with all the engine parts and electronics in the middle. If you could remove the entire section around the airbox in the middle, I think a stubby headlight would be fine
That last outake was the cherry on top, thanks!
Dan just had to try and embarrass me! - James
I got the anniversary edition and it's absolutely beautiful! My only complaints are the suspensions which are too soft. Btw I fall in love with it every time I look at it and drive it
Great Choice! The anniversary edition is in my opinion the best model! - James
I absolutely love the headlight really don't understand tge hate. I think its part of what makes it feel so unuiqe. A modern take on a classic vibe
me to
This is always been my dream bike.
Finally James! Been waiting for this video since we met. I owned this bike for the first 11,000 miles. It's looking greater and your plans sound excellent. An awesome bike but don't miss it much with my MT09 Acro set up!
Good to see youngsters on bikes , not many doing it these days respect. And by the way your right about the Highlands first ride for me 15 and again at 18 . And I'm from London so no traffic 52 now gong to do it again next year.
I’ve got this bike too, my first bike! And I’m aiming to do Scotland as soon as it’s sunny next year.
I wish I could afford an exhaust! It’s the next big thing on my list of wants, after tail tidy and seat!
I love that Bucket headlight on mine! makes it look retro!
Hey mate, from an XSR owner, dont get the adaptive headlight. It really doesn't work. It doesn't flash up when you are in the corner. but when you come to a full stop during night time, you just ended up flashing the guy in front of you.
I had an old XSR400 in Chili (I'm yank/Brit) and loved it's sound. Have an '03 Triumph Daytona 955i (triple) but could be swayed back with a XSR900.
I've have a 2007 Triumph Daytona 675 and I want to make the move to the Yamaha XSR900 ha. Its a sweet bike!
Great looking bike.
I got the adaptive LED headlight kit from Motodemic for my XSR900 and very happy with it.
Enjoy the ride!
Love your bike James, and I’m with you on blacking it all out! Thank you.
Real clean looking bike man!
Thanks, hopefully you'll see it again in six months time with a slicker look. - James
Can't wait to see with upgrades
Wicked bike man. I'd have this instead of my husqvarna 701 but the 701 is very affordable for my budget right now.
Why
Beautiful bike! I have a 2015 SR400 slightly customised and was ready to give it as down payment for a 2019 XSR700 but I simply couldn't get rid of it.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the XSR700 without selling my beloved SR400.
Yamaha recalled xsr700J,MT07JC, XSR700JC DUE to bolt chain Gard contact the driver chain break which could lead to accident.
I really like what you've done with it.
Game over dude, game over.
Nice looking and sounding bike James, I like both the yellow and the black variants of this bike. Looking at your bike I would say you have plastic wrapped it, great idea as you can at least pull it off afterwards with no damage to the original factory finish.
I would love to tour Scotland but the Mrs isn't keen, Im sure I will do it someday. Ride safe out there!
Show her images of Glencoe, Inverary and Rest and Be Thankful, they're sure to convince her! - James
Excellent video! I have almost the same bike history as James so maybe not a coincidence looking at the XSR700 right now. 🤓
Great motorcycle no way you could go wrong. 👍🏼
Love Yamaha.. this bike will
Look sick when it’s done.. ✌🏻🇨🇦
A+ on the sound
I like the bucket headlight.
Cool guy and cool bike. Why do you remind me of Zorg from Fifth Element! :)
Zero stones.... Zero crates! - James (Zorg)
@@BikeShedMotoCo Ha.
Hair and shoes go perfect with the bike... Nothing bad with it, just thinking out loud...
Love the roar
Love the ride part! Would be great If we could hear the sound more on each video, instead of just a couple revs
That thing sounds awesome. Vroom vroom.
Nice bike, nice pipe!
After fully building a streetfighter and doing a supermoto conversion on a dual sport...I just want to buy something and mostly leave it alone.
Cool idea to change all non black parts. I did it with my bicycle, I took black titanum screws. It's stronger and a little, but really only little bit lighter.
I think the front light is not that bad tho.
my next bike
Good sound and looks good
Beautiful bike. 👍🏽
Very nice..Cheers mate..
Great machine mate!
Near perfect sound ! Nice
Excellent motorcycle
Had mine for nearly two years now and love it. The Evotech tail tidy is a worthy bit of kit but make sure you mount the indicators in the forward position, I made the mistake of putting them next to the number plate which looked terrible. I fitted the Yamaha heated grips too which make it more usable in the winter and they look like stock. The shock really is terrible too...
Hi - can you take a passenger comfortable on this bike ? looks quite short .. thx
I've got the Evotech tail tidy on my XSR900 and it's a nice piece.
How did you get the black forktubes?
What an awesome video. Love the bike. Thinking of getting one for my first motorbike. Would you recommend for or against this idea? Also where did you get that tail light? It's one of the nicest ones i've seen (in my opinion) but not sure where to look.
If I were you I would start on something a bit smaller and more forgiving!
Beutiful bike..
The XSR 700 is getting to be the most chopped up New Bike ever !!
Yes but insurance is invalid
Great review 👍🏼
those boots are really gothic
Awesome!
Can you customise it to make it possible to change the spark plugs in less 2 hours....
Hey Bike Shed! Update please. Thanks. .
There's a benefit to buying new or nearly new.
Heck yeah man, coool bike
Oh my gosh James NICE bike how tall are you and you can flat foot the bike while seated. I'm in the process of shopping for a rethro bike cafe something like that..thanks in advance
Thanks Para - I'm 6ft
@ 6:36 car park at Rest and Be Thankful, not far from me. Not a fan of all black, although my Honda CB400SF flat tracker is matt black with yellow twin shocks. It needs a subtle bit of vivid colour.
I did test ride the Yamaha XSR700, but it didn't suit me, I found the MT07 a better ride even though they both share the same engine.
Rest and Be Thankful is really one of my favourite places after Glencoe and the Argyle Forest! Give the XSR900 a go too, it's not as soulful as the twin of the xsr700, but boy is it quick!!! - James
Great stuff. Would love it if you would add links (in the description) to the parts you mentioned. I have an xsr900 but having trouble finding an adaptive headlight. Perhaps the 700 is the same size...
Nice bike. But no center stand. Pipes under the engine. How do you lift it to change tires?
so , where is the final?
Great review now get back to Corry, Sinead's missing you!
I put full m4 exhaust dna air box mod power commander and vortex sprocket dropped a tooth in front up two in rear it didn’t decrease top end at all but really woke it up 0 -100 mph my sons gsxs zuki 750 just can keep up it power whellies well just in case anyone considering mods
Yamaha recalled xsr700J,MT07JC, XSR700JC DUE to bolt chain Gard contact the driver chain break
which could lead to accident. 🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕
Hi, I would like to hear your views, or the shed in general, how it compares to the sv650 in handling an performance
I can't seem to make up my mind .
Front tyre is directional? Wrong way
Normal rider: Buys the bike, wow everything is amazing!! And rides on for years.
James: Buys the bike, its a good bike I like it, but I am going to change this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd this.
It's becoming apparent that I'm the only one who likes the big round headlight. How do you feel this bike would be for a new first time rider?
Great, it's a fun, precise tool that has enough grunt to keep you happy, but not too much that you'll do something stupid. Just watch it in lower gears, it likes to wheelie - James
Great looking bike! Can't wait to see all the modifications you do to it. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I'm 5'5 and a little worried that tiptoeing will be too overwhelming.
I have the exact same bike and I'm around the same height as you, I personally think it's manageable. You'll at least feel comfortable with one foot down. Best thing to do is find a local dealership and sit on it.
Thanks @@Elliot00000 One foot is plenty in my book. I'll def check them out at my local dealer. Thanks for your input.
I'm 6ft and can flat foot it happily. - James
5’5 here, I have to really really stretch to tip toe both because the seat is wide but one foot down is great, and the pegs stay out of the way
Hey bro, I'm wondering where you picked up those radiator covers? I can't find them anywhere.
They're Yamaha Catalogue you can find them here - www.yamaha-motor.eu/gb/en/products/motorcycles/sport-heritage/xsr700/accessories/
Could you please tell me or put a link for this prototype seat?
I really like it, would love to order it once available.
Cognitomoto is coming with part for this bike, I am sure there product are gona be gorgeous.

How messed up is it that you have to beware of your bikes livery so it won't be stolen? People just can't keep their hands off other people's things
It's really quite sad isn't it! London is a serious problem, Police need more budget, reassurance and support to deploy their powers. - James
Id have this over an MT07
Any plans on relocating the ignition like Ross did? I'd really love a video on how to do that. Not exactly sure how to remove the ignition module on my MT07....
Hey guys, is the XSR900 Abarth is a good buy?
Thanks.
Artur Have heard it is maybe the most uncomfortable bike ever, suppose you could change the handle bars but might as well just buy the stock XSR900.
I wish watch a video regarding how it looks nowadays!
The bike looks great (other than that awful rear light) and it sounds amazing. In my opinion, I think the other mods mentioned (blacking it out, changing the headlight etc) would ruin it.
Yea I'd actually swap back to stock tail light and just tidy up the rear end with a regular eliminator kid that fits right under the mudguard. Totally blacking out the entire bike makes it look like the bike is trying too hard and it loses that depth and sense of material contrasts. Headlight is subjective, but I prefer the larger bucket style, so that the bike doesn't look too compact and fat. Whenever I see bikes that are overly short in front and rear, it just looks poorly proportioned and unbalanced. Kawazaki Z bikes suffer a bit from that
Where can I get those radiator side guards with the Japan flag on them?
Switched out ! Do you mean swopped or changed ?
Hey. Anyone know the brand or have a link to the tail light replacement on this bike?
The bike is nice, but where did you find those boots?
How's it looking now?
update vid ???
What is the color of the wrap you used? Is it satin or matte?
Does James have a channel where he posted the ride on the Scottish Highlands? That place looks fantastic and great bike too
Hi Ashwin, no I don't sorry, but do go ride it! It's a fantastic place, my family live there and the roads, scenery and clean air are fantastic. - James
I love this exhaust but I can’t find it
Is there a video of an update of all the mods?
Obviously Basically ofcourse
Does he have his front tire on the wrong way? It's set up to channel water in instead of out like the rear. Sweet ride btw
It's on the correct way, and it channels or 'pushes' water out when the grooves are pointing the way they are. Give it a Google if you have time! - James
What a great looking machine in all black, didnt like the yellow scheme but black is looking good. mind if i ask what height you are , looking for a good long term 2nd bike but i'm 6ft 3 (189cm) and closest dealer is a few hours away to try one.
Hey Jack, I'm 6ft, so you'd be fine on this, it's a good medium-high height.
@@BikeShedMotoCo thanks for the reply, ended up getting a CB650 but I did test ride the XSR700, good machine
Did the engine need mapping for the exhaust? Always wondered whether the aka model specific systems negated the need.
I think they need re mapping when running without the baffle to protect the engine. Additionally I felt it was twat loud without the baffle when I took mine out.
Has this bike been updated recently?
Is it 'custom' if you are just buying stuff to bolt on?
Fab or not to fab?
is that exhaust rusty?
Is there an update on this bike?
does the newer version still have rust and gearbox issues?
Nothing like electrical gremlins to make you gunshy about used bikes. I had an R6 that was haunted by gremlins that were left by the previous owner. 😖
