- Based on the Tweet (or post) that Nintendo of America, Charles Martinet has finally retired from voicing my favorite game character, Mario.
To honor him, I have made a video based on the moments I know, especially the obscure ones.
I wanted to say Thank You, for making my childhood better with Nintendo.

Il'l miss Mario and Luigi and Wario and Waluigi's old voices
The new Mario sounds close to him but I’m afraid what Wario and Waluigi are gonna sound like you can’t replace those perfect voices that Charles gave them.

@@hankmorrison269 I also want Luigi to sound like Luigi. I just think Mario and Luigi are going to be easier for someone to get the voice down with even though I prefer Charles over anybody. Wario and Waluigi just got unique voices that I think only Charles can do.

Charles Martinet has made more smiles for everyone than he knows. I’m hoping that Kevin Afghani will honor his legacy after hearing him in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

That’s a nice memory. My first game was probably Super Mario 64 DS and I did enjoyed the characters and their voices.
My first game was Super Mario 64. I also like Mario Kart 64 and Dr. Mario 64. I listened to Mario Music all the time. And I also heard Queque music from Dr. Mario 64 because that's my favorite music. I also like other songs from many Mario games. I played Super Mario 64 perfectly and I also played Dr. Mario 64 perfectly.
He will be remembered.
All that was missing was "These are my boys!". I know it's technically Papa Mario, but it is Charles' last spoken line in the Mario franchise.
He brought joy to 3 decades of people with little experience beforehand.
The magic of Charles will be carryed by who ever voices him wonder and beyond.
The new voice actor is great, but Charles will always be THE voice of Mario and Luigi.

#ThankYouCharles for voicing my childhood heroes. Mario was the first character to ever introduce me to gaming and Nintendo. I love their voices so much and his voice is so fitting for both Mario and Luigi (but for Wario and Waluigi). It's heartbreaking to know he's retiring but it's also reassuring and thankful to know he's not done with Mario and that he's moving up to be a Mario Ambassador and we shall all remember his voices throughout the games and the life, energy, and dedication he put into it.
This is sadly the end of era, I will always have fond memories of Charles's voice acting
Worth noting, some of these, like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, were just reused voice clips from games from long ago. Smash Ultimate, for example, reused all the voice clips from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. That's actually been the case for most Mario-related titles in the last 10-15 years. Charles only really recorded lines for SOME games once every few years.
The last Super Mario game that Charles would lend his voice to was Super Mario Odyssey. That was the last mainline Mario game where he stepped into the studio to record lines/clips specifically for that game. Odyssey reuses a lot of clips from Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Galaxy, but it does contain a lot of clips specific to that game… mainly in the cutscenes and the title sequence.
Pretty sure the last instances where he came in to record lines were Luigi's Mansion 3 and WarioWare: Get It Together. These aren't the final games where he's credited pre-retirement, but these were the last instances where he stepped into the recording studio to record lines for these specific games.
Change of audio quality makes him sound - or at least feel - a bit different sometimes

It is sad that he is retired from the Mario games, but at least he is not dead and that he still works at Nintendo but as a Mario Ambassador. Charles's voice will still be used in remakes/remasters of Mario games which he voiced Mario in and he might still voice Mario's dad and Giuseppe in Mario Movie Sequals.
Charles Martinet's voice as Mario is still being used in promotional material (Super Nintendo World and Mario in Real Time at Nintendo New York) so technically Charles Martinet is still Mario's voice actor in some compasity but just not in the video games.

I know the new voices will do fine moving forward but it’ll be so weird knowing this isn’t the same voice anymore and will always hurt a little. Charles did such an outstanding job with bringing Mario to life and all the others all these years and there’s no words that could express my gratitude for all his years with Nintendo.
