As a new student I appreciate your thorough explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
Somehow I got a job interview for a roofing inspector so this was helpful seeing what the job entails.
Omg me too bro
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Great S.O.P roof inspection!! Thank you, Mrs. Erck and the team at InterNACHI!!

Great job Julie!!!
Thank you!!
nice job and thanks
Thank you too. Julie is the best.
The cat took me out 😂
It was funny.
Is that heater exhaust vent okay being so close to that second roof edge? Maybe its the camera angle but most vents on that roof look very low. Especially if this area gets any snow.
After inspectingbthe rest of the home, we verified the vent was for the kitchen and the vent for the heater was at the chimney. Had it been as I first thought, it would have been too short.
Nice.
Thanks Julie. I wish I could see some of your written recommendations here in the comments. As you know the wording in the inspection report is very critical. Anyway, I really learned from you and reviewed this video several times.
Glad you enjoyed watching the video.
Thanks Julie, good video! How did that cat get up there!! Lol
It climbed up the ladder. Could you tell it distracted me?!
That was pretty amazing. It was just chillin' on the chimney cap.
Another great video. Quick and thorough!
Thanks! Jacob did great sorting out my distraction.
Julie is one of the best.
Very good video! Thank you Julie. By the way what is your ladder?
Werner type 2, 18 foot
@@julieerck9125 What is your vehicle and how do you carry that ladder? Actually I am trying to figure out the balanced between vehicle and ladder. It is easy to recommend theoretically but I am interested to know the reality in practice, that is why I asked you what is your vehicle.
@@mehrdadalavi7308 the ladder nonextended measures 6'3" so it will fit in most vehicles.
@@julieerck9125 understood. What is your suggestion for choosing a used vehicle which that ladder fits in?
@@mehrdadalavi7308 any, just take a tape measure to be sure it will fit.
Good job.
Thank you. I was slightly distracted by the cat.
Thanks! Julie is the best.
3:14 It is stated that ventilation looks adequate. Is she using the rule 1:150 rule found in Internachi training materials? From the video I'm estimating 1800 sqft of attic space and only 4 steel roof vents at 38 in^2 each. A roof this size needs 864 in^2 of venting.
I took into consideration the venting at the eves as well. The sq. ft. was 1300.
We have training on ventilation inside our www.nachi.org/interiorcourse.htm
1:300 is good if the attic has vapour barrier installed under the insulation.
4:55 What is a smoke arrestor? Don't you want the smoke to be able to exit the chimney flue?
Yes, you are correct. The word I should have used was Spark Arrestor, not smoke arrestor
Right.
How does she know it's not hail damage without lifting the shingle and inspecting. It appears to me she's subcontracting with a insurance company and being paid to not see hail damage.
Incorrect. Julie is a certified home inspector, an experienced neutral 3rd party professional.
I wanna do this I feel like I can maximize the homeowners buying potential when it comes to better roofing
Great question. Thank you for watching and commenting.
What is flashing?
Good question.
You could see that cat at 3:00. I wasn't just seeing things.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I've been roofing for years more than 25. If someone shows up with a metel ladder, it's always a red flag. She didn't mention some of that roof shouldn't even have shingles on it (to flat) should have flat material on. It don't even look like a 3/12. And she says sometimes she doesn't even get on the roof? That's crazy.
Thank you for watching, Michael.
im 3 minutes in and she hasn't mentioned this is a best a 3/12 with shingles. okay good luck if you have this lady inspection your shit
You can determine roof slope from watching a video. Awesome.
the inspection is ok but when you say things like the appropriate amount of venting is there, you should really say what that is when you are using this as a teaching video. I find most instructional/educational videos are not very specific at all and they should be.
Good point, Hailey. For technical training, I recommend www.nachi.org/education/
I see a cat in the roof jeje that funny great video july i get it
Yep.
What if a seller doesnt fix?
Sellers are not required to fix.
and here we go again go and beyond the standards of practice that have been outlined for home inspectors which does not require you to walk on a roof
You're correct. Home inspectors are not required to walk upon any roof surface, but they are not restricted from doing so either.
