I totally agree. Men have the same emotions too. To be “macho” and hold back is crazy and hurts yourself. Bring the tears out of the closet. It’s life.

It's very impressing that you still get emotional talking about what happened to your sister even after 20 years. Until now I thought I should suppress my feelings about old wounds, but I won't do it anymore. I let go of new tears for my old wounds. Thanks for reminding me.

I remember hearing you say you were close to your sister and thinking that was something we had in common, but now I understand why. My sister had the same experience as a young widow and I slept on her couch for months too. Sara thank you so much for sharing your pain, you are helping others who feel alone right now see a little glimmer of hope that they too will move forward.

6 months ago my son Eliyahu OBM lost his battle with Bipolar at 33. It shook my world. I understand moving forward as opposed to moving on. I'm trying to be of service as a coach to give meaning to what we've all been through. I can't tell you how much this conversation means to me. Thank you so much for sharing your sister and her journey... It's was very special. Very healing. Your #1 fan in Jerusalem.

This is a must listen to for anyone who is HUMAN! I love how these two share so courageously vulnerable a horrific family story of LOSS and GRIEF. I had no idea Simon was such a family man. I can see it now looking back on all he has put into his mission in life, but this interview with his sister places him and his work even deeper into my world. I hear in their story aspects of my story with my beloved siblings, parents (mommy and daddy, I love how they call them that as I call my parents that too.) and my family and friends. I hope everyone who wants an insight to living fully in the face of tragedy will take what is shared here and apply it to their lives. I love the lust of “First” Sara created to take on as a practice to get thru here first year without her finance. Thank you thank you thank you Simon and Sara and the whole Sinek family for your contribution to all of us.

Dearest Sara, tears, heartfelt and moving. Pain, loss and sadness for the first Christmas, or birthday, or family occasions without the ones you grew up with always stays. 🙏 You are a courageous soul. God bless you to help others through your tragedy. The relationship between the two of you ❣️ ❣️, I love. I told my kids to never let anyone take that closeness, nor break that bond they both share. 🙏 I lost my dad at 18, only sister at 40 and mom at 44 among close and dearest friends. So yes we can move forward yet life and value to people more than stupid stuff. Thank you Simon ❤️. Inspire on faith, hope, love. 💘 💘

YES AS I MENTIONED BEFORE MY BOTH PARENTS GOT ILL IN CANCER AT THE SAME TIME, IT WAS A LONG RUN AND VERY EXHAUSTING PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY AFTER I SAW ALL THE SORROW SADNESS AND PAIN THEY GOT TROUGH AND TO SEE YOUR BELOVED ONE STRUGGLING AND BECOMING DEPENDENT, WITH MILLIONS OF HOURS IN HOSPITALS WITH THEM TAKING CARE OF THEM AND GIVING THEM HOPE, WHEN YOUR FATHER IS FAINTING IN THE CAR AND YOU NEED TO FOCUS ON DRIVING TO THE HOSPITALS WITHOUT LOSING YOUR COURAGE'. YOU CAN'T FORGET MEMORIES ALWAYS COMES UP AND BRING TEARS AND SCRATCH MY HEART,I BECAME SO SENSITIVE AND VOUNERBLE I CAN'T SEE PEOPLES HURT. I LEARNED ABOUT MY SELF THAT IM A VERY STRONG WOMAN AND PEOPLE CAN ALWAYS RELY ON ME, I LEARNED THAT I'M VERY DEVOTED TO PEOPLE THAT I LOVE AND STRANGE PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP, MY PERSPECTIVE WAS CHANGED I SEE THINGS IN A POSITIVE AND OPTIMISTIC WAYS AND I HOPE THIS INSULATION IN COVID 19 WILL END UP SOON WITH FINDING VACCINE SO WE CAN MOVE IN OUR LIVES. HOPE FOR HEALTH AND GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN NEXT YEAR. THANK YOU SIMON AND TO YOUR SISTER I WAS VERY SAD TO HEAR WHAT A TRAGEDY SHE HAD TO GO TROUGH IN A YOUNG AGE, WISH YOU A WONDERFUL LIFE. I finished listening to you two and it really touched my heart. How your love towards each other reaches even out to your audience. I feel included and invited to share the grieving communion you express.
Personally our family suffered an enormous loss through death too. And I resonate with Sarah’s comment about the desire to fit in, don’t stand out… no need for sympathy but reel intimacy and closeness.
Simon - the decision to be readily available whenever your sister needed you leaves a really deep impression - I can’t find proper words but thank you for embodying trust and safety.
May God bless your unique bond! And thanks again for sharing. I really appreciate this.

WOW! So heartfelt. Please! Just keep in mind that
    Grief never ends
    But changes thru out time.
It is a road, not a place to stay and hang around.
Grief is not a sign of weakness, neither lack of faith
It is the price of love.

Quote: "I don't underestimate anyone else's sadness . . ." Incredible. Priceless. Now am gonna go watch the Movie - "Sliding Doors" I'm so moved beyond words after listening to this. I wouldn't change an inch of this podcast, though it felt a bit awkward in the beginning, listening to all the sniffling. My own reflections made me recollect how absolutely true, each word in the conversation really is, and brought some tears to my eyes. "Life is like those sliding doors: You don't get to choose." May God continue to bless you both.

I lost my Mum on March 26th this year due to breast cancer. In the midst of Covid. It was a quite unique funeral. But being an emergency- and critical care physician, I had a mammoth task during those days. But my Boss sent me home with his words 'take every Moment you need, we only have one single mother'. It was early in in my career, when I discovered my why. Thank you for putting it into words. My why got very strong in the meantime. And something I kling to is how I said good bye to my Mum.
"You can let go now. You've done a remarkable job. We will meet again, but for now, I still have an important task on earth" And somehow I was thinking of You at that moment

I cried while watching your video. This resonates so much to my deepest feeling. My siblings and I will never talked about the suicidal of our brother. No one knows how painful it is even he has passed away six years ago. People says time heals all wounds. No. Never. It teaches us how to deal with the pain and slowly let it go. We couldn’t let go. It’s so hard to let go and move on. Memories will stay forever.

I normally listen to Simon's podcasts while I'm walking, but something told me today to be still and just listen.
    Dear Sara,
I'm so grateful that you shared your story - the emotion that was released by you and Simon was beautiful, heartfelt and of course, had me bawling 20 seconds into the episode. I really just want to say that I'm proud of you for using this moment to help others as you reflected on your past and showed how it shaped who you are today. You're right in saying that loss is something you never quite get over because it does become a part of who you are. But, I'm a firm believer that even the hardest, most painful things we might endure in this life can be used for good. Your courage today and every day over the last 20 years gives evidence to the beauty that was created from your ashes.
As president of The Fearless Storytellers Movement, I see and hear some of the most traumatic situations happen to women all across the country. Some are in the beginning stages of their journey where they tell their story to heal themselves. But, I can tell that you are in the stage of your journey where you can tell your story to heal others. THAT'S AMAZING. We always have the choice to go in two directions and I encourage you to keep moving forward. As a storyteller and a mother of two young kids myself, I AM PROUD OF YOU. Also, just know you aren't alone in your struggle - you have a much bigger sisterhood and tribe than you may realize. Thank you for your bravery. - Mel

Simon, I know I'm just one of thousands who have listened to this episode, but you have to know the impact this story had on me. When I was a teenager, I lost a dear cousin in a tragic accident, then not long after my brother-in-law committed suicide. As an adult, our family then lost yet another brother-in-law to suicide and a sister nearly overdosed. In 2014, my sweet sister committed suicide, and receiving that phone call informing me of her death was one of the hardest things to bear. In 2018 I sat in the hospital and listened to my mom tell the E.R. doctor her plans to end her life (luckily she's still with us). This year, during COVID, my wife had to be admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks because she was suicidal and could no longer control herself or her painful thoughts. Luckily, my wife pulled through and her boys still have their mommy. I'm 40 now...and all I've done is move forward...that's all I can do. It meant so much to hear the difficult & tragic story your family had to go through. I'm sure there are plenty of other people telling you this as a result of this episode, but you can tell your sister that her story has touched me deeply and given me strength to continue moving forward. How thankful I am to her for sharing her very personal story and for the vulnerability you both showed in this episode. You're both changing lives.

Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable experience with us. It brings back memories of when our first child died 40 years ago in infancy of a heart defect. The first everything was definitely the hardest. I needed that reminder because my husband of 42 years believes there is a possibility that he may not make it to the end of the year (cancer). When the time comes for him to go, I will remember the first experiences without that loved one are the hardest, and it will get easier. I will also remember to be the optimist, to look for the "collateral beauty" (as the Will Smith movie by that name addresses), because it will be there. It always is.
