My mom told me how she was 14 at the time and she used to go to her room, every Saturday at exactly 12AM just so she could watch Headbangers Ball and see the interviews with the bands she loved, and she didn't care that they were dropping bombs outside, she didn't want to miss an interview. I'm really glad she raised me to listen to this type of music. Without her, I wouldn't have known of Alice in Chains, they wouldn't be my favorite band, and I would be listening to the shitty pop music that is popular today. If I am thankful for anything, then I am thankful for her showing me grunge and my favorite band, Alice in Chains.

He wasnt even allowed to drink though i believe he bent the rules when he partied with the other bands on the tour. By fall '93 i i think he relapsed but i could be wrong. Might've been later.
I was backstage at Philly, Charles Town, and Charlotte. As much as I loved the man, he was most certainly not sober, and although I hate it that he couldn't hack it, I certainly can understand not wanting to be in pain. As far as a "sober monitor" following him around, whoever wrote that must have never been to a big show before. Rest assured the chaos backstage was just as unyielding as it was out front. Imagine for a second while you look at the crowds in all the 90's Lolla vid's and think about trying to keep up with someone who wanted to get away from you. Layne was found at least 2 weeks after he O.D.'d He was an amazing guy though the little I saw of him, loved making people smile, and incredibly talented. All good artists it seems, have unfortunately dealt with great amounts of pain in some form or another. I took one of my best friends with me to one of the shows and almost 20 years later he named his first born daughter Layne, so yeah, the guy made an impact, which is the only reason I share this. Hopefully it will keep another great loss from happening.
