    Happy Monday everyone and thank you for being so patient! We’ve been super excited to drive this one since Mazda first announced it last year and it’s a welcome upgrade over the CX-30 and CX-5 in space, capability, design, and comfort. We’re very excited to see the electrified option Mazda has planned in the near future. We also wanted to clarify, this vehicle technically shares the newer platform with the current Mazda3 and CX-30, not the older CX-5 platform. We imagine a lot of people may mistake it for a CX-5 platform but it’s the reason why the rear suspension is a non-independent torsion beam, instead of the multi-link setup in the CX-5.

    It short shifts because it’s tuned for all the power to be in the low and mid range. It falls off above 5,000rpm and there would be no benefit to revving up beyond that and actually be slower

    • @ryanzeid146
      @ryanzeid146 Год назад

      Yeah, I have a ‘22 CX-5 Signature and it has a ton of low end torque, but the power band drops off a cliff when you get above 4000 or so rpms. These Mazda turbos are definitely not designed for “flooring it.” You get way more out of it by just pushing the pedal down a little bit more when you really need the power.

Yesterday, I happened to see my first one on the road and was quite impressed by what I saw in person. It definitely turned my head and carried quite a presence. It was a dark gray with dark wheels.
    While Mazdas usually all look alike, I didn’t know what it was until I saw the Mazda emblem on the grill. Definitely a top vehicle in this class. Excluding luxury brands, the Hyundai Tucson and this CX-50 are the only vehicles that stand out. The interior of this CX-50 has some pretty leather, but otherwise looks dated. Others reviewers have also mentioned a cheaper feel to the fit and finish of this Mazda.

      @@MonicaHolly143 Hi Monica, I personally think these are the two reasons why I want a digital gauge.
      1. Abundance of info. The digital display is more customizable than analog, and it can display every piece of info you need. It is the place where we look the most when driving beside the road ahead. This is like an Apple watch VS a traditional Rolex watch, digital can offer more than just time, and it can be customized.
      2. Value comparison. If we all pay 35k for a car, we'd expect to get all the similar features among the options we have. I know that Nissan already went digital with Rouge.

    A very good design to a great design. I had a Mazda 626 LX (1988) that I got in August of '88. My model had a 133 cubic inch 4 in line. The horsepower was a measly 110 at 130 foot pound torque. Got that car at a top speed of 94 m.p.h. trying to catch a hot Porsche one day...that's the last of my "speed chasing" which was few in my years of driving. The one thing that Mazda promote back then for a few years was their "Twin Trapezoidal Links", which today are (?) multi-link suspension in the rear of cars.
    One noticeable thing on the engine sound...it sounds great. To me, 6 speeds gets the job done fine over the 7, 8, and 9 speed models. Less gears mean less break down in the transmission (?).
    I like the design of this car! Consumer Reports rate Mazda make cars literally on top of reliability. Maybe...this car will replace my nearly 18 year old Subaru Forester. At least one thing...they had a winning car at LeMans in '88.

      I agree. My guess is that it has to do with it being built on the same platform as the CX-30 (and Mazda3), which was built to accommodate the 6 speed transmission. The upcoming CX-60 is built on their new RWD platform and will utilize the new 8 speed transmission.

      The Mazda 6-speed automatic transmission is very reliable, so there's no reason to replace it. On the other hand, Toyota's 8-speed automatic, about 2 years ago, proved to not be reliable when a million 8-speed auto transmissions failed, resulting in a class action lawsuit.

  • @chloe92us

    I originally chose Mazda because they DON’T do touchscreens. Not all of us want fingerprints all over everything. This was on my short list coming out of a 2021 CX9, but the light headliner is a dealbreaker. It stands out so badly. Love the terra-cotta seats! Also, the lack of air vents up front might be challenging to cool the vehicle in Florida heat. The pano roof is a bummer too for Florida. It just heats up the car. My hope now is that the Euro CX60 replaces the CX5 for 2025, which would create a solid naming structure across the lineup. That’s now my prediction after the CX70 reveal. Nice review, thanks.
