Incredible that an iconic punk rock superstar is providing better country music than most of what comes out of Nashville these days. Didn't expect such a great country song from Billie Joe.
To me, punk has always been about doing whatever the fuck you want to do and not letting anyone tell you otherwise. Billie Joe has always done that, and I am so stoked for this album because it is Billie Joe doing what he wants to do, just like everything else he has always done. It's just an added bonus that Norah Jones is on it because I love her voice and her style. I cannot wait for this album!
I fail to understand why people are complaining about BJA doing this. If anything you should be happy that he's flaunting his vocal flexibility which has turned out to be gorgeous. If you don't like it, go back to listening to Green Day's stuff and stitch your minds a little tighter. Side note: I'm a die hard fan of both Green Day and Norah Jones. :)
This album certainly "captures" the Everly sound. Phil and Don would be proud of this cover. It's nice to hear the songs performed with the benefit of today's technology. Great sound.
Brilliant !!!! I woke up this morning listening to NPR...11/25/2013, and heard this. As a 62 year old Everly Bros. fan for life I was amazed....Phil and Don were born to sing together...and so were Joe and Norah !!!!
Same experience here. NPR brought me here. Everly's are awesome and I enjoyed them even though I'm much younger. Armstrong and Jones did this so well. Love that a pop punk rocker has the breadth to go this direction.
sarah tennant He can do hardcore 80's punk sound (Take Back from Nimrod) and super smooth soothing 1960's country (this). He can do so many great singing voices.
Billy Joe came across the Everly Brother's Album, "Songs Our Father Sang", and liked it. He envisioned he and Norah Jones doing this, and here it is! I'm shocked at the number of people who say Green Day was never punk. They were very punk, and have gone on to be a great rock band. Billy Joe's voice is amazing. It shows real cajones to step so far out of his comfort zone. Amazing CD!
(Billie Joe is my #1) One side of me says Billie what are you doing. However, the other side, only the greatest musicians can execute all styles of music to perfection.
Love it. Been a Green Day fan in Tennessee a long time, and it awesome to see mu opposing styles come together. Billie Joe has once again broke barriers, much like when I heard my family listening to Good Riddance years ago, and seeing how he united the punks and mainstreamers. Keep at it! and good to see B.J. clear minded!
There is something so warm about this song 🎵 😍 💕 ❤️ Only discovering it now... Just as my soul gets to deciding about leaving Ireland for Canada 🇨🇦 I am giving myself a year to prepare but when i Go..." I'll be a long time Gone "
Foreverly is something different. Foreverly is something that's here to stay. Norah and Billie Joe pairing up is new and as skeptic as I was, I'm loving this single for now. Placed my pre-order. ☺
I absolutely love it. I've loved Green Day for years, I loved Foxboro Hot Tubs, and I love this. Always been a fan of older country/ folk songs and that style of music. Johnny Cash is my hero, and that Billie Joe has chosen to continue to follow his passion makes me love him even more (which I didn't know was possible). Haha.
On this song some people ask "what the hell were you thinking" Billie Joe Armstrong. For me, I find this to be the most punk rock act he has done. He sings because he wants to sing that song..not because he has to sing a certain type of music for you, the industry, or to sell music. If you think about it, the people complaining about this new songs from him not fitting their 'style' sounds the same as the top 40, big corporations who tell the artist what to sing and how to sing it. Rock on Billy.
This further emphasizes the incredible range of music Billie can sing. He is extremely talented and so is Norah! Not my kind of music but wow, beautiful voices.
When I think about Billie back when I used to listen to him as a snarling, snotty, spitting punk and how much he has grown and evolved with my own musical tastes I just about die happy.
I heared a lot of things and loved the Everly Brothers since they were on the radio. Glad to hear a second generation punk rocker and a jazz singer break out in a way that reminds me of my home north of Bowling Green. I do pine for home when I heared this.
oh i love it.....even not being a fan of country music....i've always been a mad fan of green day punk rock music......hearing billy like this is also a 'wow' for me.....i support him for this eternal everly brother's revolution.......keep it up billy....but make a new green day album quick.......we're waiting for this album and green day new punk rock album!!!!!! oh gosh! ye make go mad........luv ye foreverly billy!
Well... there's a reason the Everly Brother's are inducted in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. Awesome harmonies! One of my all time favorite genres... country based early rock. My father played many Everly discs when I was young and they got me then and still do today. Exciting to have Billie Joe and Norah do these seeing that I'm a big GD fan. Thanks again Billie... really enjoy it!
Billie Joe's voice is so AMAZING & also in country! I never thought that would sing country, but it's so F**KING AMAZING!! I'm just so in love with his voice!
This is amazing... Plain and simple... Everly Brothers are who I grew up, so seeing someone I listened to my teenage years, and even today, Billie Joe doing this is awesome. Their harmonies are awesome, and Billie even sounds like Phil a bit. It's scary.
When i heard the first 5 seconds of this song I was a bit shocked that Billie would be singing a song like this. But once I finished listening to it, I was amazed. This song is fantastic with both of their vocals and I love it a lot. Billie's voice sounds so amazing and I also feel like this is a way of showing that he is doing better after rehab. He's going back to doing things that he wants to do and enjoys.
Personally, I think that it's a good thing that a musician like Billie open his mind to different styles of music, it shows that he's not just a punk rocker from the 1990's :)
as a fan of all things Americana (i grew up on a ranch in rural Oklahoma) and the vintage music like this i grew up absorbing via osmosis from my dad and grandparents, i think it sounds absolutely organic and they sing/blend fantastically together...i love it.
Wow, this worked so much better than I had ever imagined! I was very skeptic when I first heard about this, but I stand happily corrected. Looking forward to hear the rest of the album!
Instantly fell in love with this song, I'm a harcore Green Day fan, and love Norah Jones, and I think they should do more albums together :) They're voices just blend amazingly , It's like June and Johnny Cash
Right up there with a respectful Everly Brothers sound. Both artists are incredible on tunes like this. Billie Joe is following in the footsteps of some great artists such as Kid Rock, Darius Rucker and Eddie Vedder who have found great success with other music genres. This is a good career move too -- it proves how good he is with the likes of Norah Jones and his diversity is on target. Maybe this is all sparked by what Robert Plant did with Alison Krauss -- if so, bring it on. This is so good.
I don't see why some Green Day fans are hating on this. I mean, do you people just listen to Green Day and "punk rock" all day long? Taking influence from what's already mainstream has created some of the world's shittiest mainstream rip-offs like Sum-41, New Found Glory, and Simple Plan. It's classics like these that created the Ramones and the Clash. This is what Green Day drew their influence from - not what was already mainstream. It's music like this that will continue to create the great bands in the world, and those who recycle the works of those great bands will always be sub-par. Similarly, it's 50s and 60s music that really charges my creativity and motivation.
I agree with you fully on this argument except for your inclusion of Sum 41. They're actually brilliant and don't deserve to be in the same sentence as New Found Glory and Simple Plan. :D
@@Junkpunker21 I'm late to this but, Sum-41's actually good. I do agree with everything else you said though. I'm going to be honest I don't know the other two bands.
Good tribute! I'm glad I can finally hear what Billie Joe sounds like instead of his green day singing voice. It's nice to see that an artist such as himself has other passions in his life that he adheres to, regardless of what his "fans" think he should do! After all...you guys know best, yeah? Haha! Well done song!
as a lifetime long fan of Green Day, and a folk/country music lover this is great. Everly Brothers are amazing. Billie Joe and Norah made this damn good!
Love this, Billie Joe appreciates all types of music genres, nothing wrong with that
Incredible that an iconic punk rock superstar is providing better country music than most of what comes out of Nashville these days. Didn't expect such a great country song from Billie Joe.
Absolutely agree. Too beautiful
I think NORAH calmed his arse down. Always look for a calm lady buddy. I raised boys.
You should look up The Knitters.
To me, punk has always been about doing whatever the fuck you want to do and not letting anyone tell you otherwise. Billie Joe has always done that, and I am so stoked for this album because it is Billie Joe doing what he wants to do, just like everything else he has always done. Spot on!
This is my song for many reasons
Man that dude Billie Joe Armstrong can do anything!
RIP Phil Everly. Thank you for the timeless music. And thank you Norah and Billie for keeping the music going...
The most unlikely, but the most perfect collaboration. Love this so much
Billie Joe has the kind of voice that can sing any genre and manage to sound amazing singing each and every one of them.
I fail to understand why people are complaining about BJA doing this. If anything you should be happy that he's flaunting his vocal flexibility which has turned out to be gorgeous. If you don't like it, go back to listening to Green Day's stuff and stitch your minds a little tighter.

Lol, Mea culpa
Songs Our Daddy Taught Us
This is beautifully done; it's sounds like what you'd hear from musicians back in the day like Elvis, Johnny Cash, Nancy Sinatra. I love it.
When I saw these two names listed together, I thought WTF?!!!! But what a wonderful surprise. Love it. Lots. Can't stop playing it.
I was thinking the same.

Never thought I would here billie joe singing country as a complete greenday fan but it is beautiful billie you truly can sing everything!!
Wow - great harmony - beautiful job. I think the Everly Brothers must have been thrilled to be remembered and honored with this rendition.
Doesn't matter what you think of either. That was a perfect blending of voices. Perfection.

Billie Joe's voice is so AMAZING & also in country! I never thought that would sing country, but it's so F**KING AMAZING!! I'm just so in love with his voice!

What a harmony.

Agreed- a bit hesitant at first but man oh man what duet. I've loved her work on The Little Willies, but a down and dirty duet album is due.
Billie Joe's voice sounds just like Don Everly.........superb! Norah's harmonizing is perfect!
HOLY COW! If I had heard this on the radio, I probably would have thought it WAS the Everly's. They've totally captured the sound :)
By far my favorite song that these 2 did together, absolutely delightful :)
Gosh I really love tis music, glad someone is playing this genre again.
This is absolutely a prestigious piece of work by both.

I love Green Day so much! But Billie Joe sings good here too! Green Day will be forever my favourite band!
This is an answer to all those who say Billie's voice isn't good.

John LaStrada I totally agree!
So many comments about Billie Joe, and Green Day and so few about Nora. It's the duet that makes this great. Harmony takes at least two.
This is what real country is supposed to sound like, glad these two paired up. I am a huge Green Day fan but also a country fan so this is perfect!
Beautiful 👏👏👏👏
I heard country music for the first time and i have started loving it!! I am a Green Day fan and Billie is perfect at this kind of music too.

Billie's transformation from rock genre to this one... #hatsoff.! :)
