“I finally made it to Tiny Desk,” singer-songwriter Norah Jones excitedly declares during her performance. Her first Tiny Desk experience was a solo piano and vocal (home) concert, which reflected all the meditative, sonic hallmarks of performing in isolation. Since her juggernaut debut album, Come Away With Me, was released in 2002, she has crafted intimate songs that showcase her beguiling vocals. In the course of building her genre expansive catalog, she has racked up nine Grammy awards and collaborations with as varied a group as you can imagine, from Herbie Hancock and Willie Nelson, to Q-Tip and Foo Fighters.
For her long-awaited in-person performance, Jones presents a light, breezy set of soulful tracks from her newest album, Visions, a collaboration with producer Leon Michels. “Paradise,” a deceptively light and whimsical tune about letting go, begins the concert, followed by the contemplative “Swept Up in the Night.” For the psychedelic “Staring at the Wall,” featuring Jones on the guitar, drummer Brian Blade and bassist Josh Lattanzi lay down a fun, body-moving groove. To close her set, Jones turns to the title track from her debut album, disclosing that the tune was written only using the five guitar chords she knew at the time. Here she reimagines her classic, opening it up in a dreamy fashion.

When I was in middle school, it rained so much that I took a taxi. Then "don't know why" was playing on the radio. I can't forget that moment. After that, I went to a local music store, bought a new album, CD, and listened to it over and over again at home.
Thank you for making memories of my life!

Really cool how you phrased that "making memories of my life". I often think of songs or albums throughout my life that I know exactly where I was and even very minor details about what I was doing when I was listening to it. Music can be very impactful and I share this feeling of "memories of my life".

Nice. The first time I ever walked into a music shop and heard a song and immediately walked to the counter to purchase the CD without knowing anything about the artist was "Come Away With Me"... Captured forever 💜

I can relate to that. Different circumstances, but 20 years ago I clung to the FLH CD like it was a literal comfort blanket during a specifically depressing period. Severe depression caused by bereavement. It wasn't just FLH but at that time it was the new "hotness" from Norah and I only very rarely played her debut album, and no music from anyone else no matter how good they are seemed to do anything. FLH calmed my mind even if only for brief periods, I would have gone insane without Norah Jones back then.

I remember sitting in my truck with a girl in 2003 after a crazy winter day, waiting for "Come Away with Me" to play on the CD so I could give her the first kiss. But it was like track 5 or something, so finally I skipped ahead to it and gave that kiss and told her I could not wait so many songs. That girl is long gone from my life, but the memory is fresh like yesterday. God Bless You, Norah Jones...

Huge props to the sound team. Because Sami is playing that glockenspiel so delicately, barely touching those bars. And each note shines through, each is clear and distinct and a true compliment to the piano. Her two songs would be lessened without those notes. *That's* a great musician! And it would have been lost without a great sound team. +bravo!+

"I've got my NoJo working"... I do not really know how she does it, but whatever piano she plays, the sound is unmistakably and distincly Norah's, I don't know any other piano player with such personal magic. You can tell this or that pianist playing by phrase, techniques, touch, attack on keys but extracting such an own sound from any piano is a miracle. Waiting for the new record, seems it's gonna be beautiful. Love from Krakow, Poland again.

Hello, Norah. I used to listen to your music every time i go out with my sister. I didn't know much about music that time and the artists, but when my sister played your CD in the car, it was one of the happiest and memorable moments of my life, and i wish i can just go back to that time where everything was easier. To be honest, i grew apart with that sister for reasons, but at least when i go looking back on the better times, the car rides with your music was one of the good memories of our time together that i'll cherish forever. thank you!

Mom and I have bonded over it, it's our thing, something we sing to together, something that is just so nostalgic and sweet to me. I'm so glad this exists :]
