- Here it is - the one everyone has been asking for. (actually, that might be a video about the Tenseigan, but... ah, nevermind, a lot of you wanted this so whatever.) Today I'll be talking about sage mode.
This is definitely one of the coolest aspects of the series because it isn't broken or blatantly overpowered due to the clear limits placed on it, AND it still manages to be really cool. Can't really beat that.

It seems like his issue is that he couldn't keep it going as long as the other sages so he couldn't get as much mileage out of it as his other techniques. Plus he's a prodigy so he's probably a massive overachiever and a bit of a perfectionist.
@@taiga738 I agree he is kinda a perfectionist in nature but to be able to enter perfect sage mode like that and say he's not really good at it is funny. Jiraiya "The Toad Sage" didn't even achieve it. And it's not like Minato doesn't have good chakra reserves either.
@@Lancecourt93 It is but it also feels in character for him to sell himself short like that. I find it amusing. But IIRC he actually did elaborate that the part he wasn't good at was making it last long enough to get good use out of it in a fight. And it's not like having to stand still to gather more nature chakra meshes well with his fighting style, which demands near constant movement. Minato having an odd definition of what he's 'bad' at or a tendency to downplay stuff he's not basically perfect at using seems like the best explanation we can hope for.

Like said before, I think Minato not having chakra reserves as big as Naruto's which made his sage mode way short and his fighting style being based on speed which contradicts sage mode's need to stay still is a really good explanation for why the ability was not good for him even thought he had chakra control good enough to enter the perfect sage for a brief moment

I suppose we think about it as a process that never gets easier, like Maths from normal school to University - they keep adding to it to make it always seem like there's no progress, and you never realise how far you've come until you look back at your old work. The process for Sage Mode seems to be stagnant, with the only real changes being the teachers' methods and the student's own ability to manipulate natural energy.

Forgot to mention the only people that can achieve sage mode are people with Considerably large chakra reserves naturally.
This doesn’t make any sense because nature chakra is an entirely different set of chakra than normal chakra. It was even drawn in panel and explained that way in the manga. It literally only requires chakra control to a high extent because like I just said the chakra is unlike regular chakra and when it runs rampant it can turn you into respective animal (i.e naruto and jiraiya turning into frogs slightly during its use)
AsteroidBlue wrong. if u dont have low amounts of chakra (physical and spiritual energy), then nature energy can overwhelm u faster and overtake the user’s body. thats why people with lots of chakra are more suited for it.

I think Hashirama learned Sage Mode from Katsuyu. I mean, there are only 3 sage regions: Mount Myoboku (toads), Ryuchi Cave (snakes), and Shikkotsu Forest (slug/Katsuyu). Each sage mode has distinct appearances ex. Toad eyes for toad sage, snakelike eye/face markings for snake sage. Since Hashirama's sage markings doesn't look like the other two plus the fact that Tsunade can summon Katsuyu, I think the Senju has a history with Shikkotsu Forest. This doesn't mean though that Tsunade has sage mode since she doesn't have sage markings and only uses Katsuyu for her healing mark.

They married into other clans, the 3ed, 4th, 5th and 7th(Naruto) were all Senju. Just with different last names and a parent of a different clan. Also Senju and Uzumaki were both the same clan just a different name for the same people(Asura clan).

I was so pained when Naruto used the Six Paths Sage Mode to fight with Delta when ordinary Sage Mode was more than enough to fuck with her. It pains me the way the writers fluctuate his power levels. 🤦🏾♂️

Well keep in mind Naruto isn't like someone like Goku. He doesn't start out small. If he knows you're a threat, he's going to use the best mode for the job. Six Paths sage mode is stronger than regular sage mode, and has no time delay to enter. Easy choice when you're up against some unknown enemy that could do literally anything, PLUS your kids are in direct danger. That's one of my favorite things about Naruto.

I wonder what would happen if someone who knows the eight gates was brought back with the reanimation technique would they be an unstoppable force? Would they be able to use it indefinitely? As a reanimation they would have infinite chakra and regenerate.
basically yeah, though I imagine with the damage the technique does to the body, using the 8 gates would leave some openings here and there when the body finally gets damaged enough that it needs to stop and regenerate, at which point they could be sealed

Another point I think is interesting is that it is never stated where Hashirama learned his sage mode from. It can be suggested that he learned from frog sages, although there is no evidence. Some people believe either he taught to himself or learned from another animal (possibly slug sages due to Tsunadaes connection to Katsyu). Some evidence to show how unlikely it is that he learned from Frog sages is that he doesn't have to be still to activate it and it seems to enhance specifically just his wood style techniques.

As far as we know, he doesn't have any animal summons, so I think he learned it through Mokuton, adn as such, since he's the master mokuton user, he doesn't need to stay still to use his.
Like some sort of bastardization of what a real sage mode is. I imagine it's like Minato learning Rasengan by emulating the Bijuudama.
Well, he did have a strong connection with nature (Trees and sht, and to mention that getting his fking dna gives you a HUGE boost in healing and reducing strain from stuff like sharingan)

We humans are hardwired to see conspiracies and to make things more mysterious than they are, but I think Kishimoto really meant for us to infer that Hashirama learned it from there. It's not confirmed, but, I mean, cmon. What are the chances that there is a specific mark from each Sage place, and Hashiramas is totally different from Toad and Snake, and we know of another Sage place called the Shikkotsu FOREST, but he actually somehow learned it himself or he got it from the wood? Also, if Katsuyu came from the Shikkotsu Forest, it totally makes sense, because Katsuyu is into healing, and Hashirama was able to heal himself without handsigns. His Sage ability is to use Nature Energy to bind targets. aka Sage Art: Gracious Deity Gates. I don't think it's supposed to be that elaborate.
Nathan Beard Couple points: The fact that is not explicitly stated where Hashirama learned Sage mode from it is entirely reasonable that there would be theories. I never set out to make where he learned sage mode to be some elaborate mystery. I even stated that it is possible that he learned it from the Slugs because Tsunade's connection to them. You're trying to make it seem like it was so simple and so obvious, but you forget that every time we've seen a sage user (besides Minato) it is shown that the person has a connection with the animal they are training with, as is with the case with Jiraiya and Naruto with frogs, and indirectly Kabuto with snakes. Hashirama is never seen with slugs so why would that be an obvious answer? It's totally likely that he taught it to himself because he was a genius and plus his apparently strong lineage to the So6p could possibly allow him to naturally acquire sage mode. But go on and keep acting like Mr. Knowitall

I love how kishi forgot about the ma and pa toad sages in the war arc for plot purposes....I thought their genjutsu frog song was op...it would have helped in the fight vs obito...they got pain with it...and now that naruto is one with kurama, you would think the toads would be able to stay on his shoulders and sink with him like they did with jiraya and thus gather nature energy for naruto forever........right...gathering nature energy means you would never run out...there may be a limit to how much your body can store but you can always replenish and man naruto should have used shadow clones to store nature energy for him before his fight with tobi during the war...then when he needed sage chakra he could have them be transported..instead he gets frozen when the ten tails attacks and because of kishi's mistake neji dies...it was so avoidable...
Asmosis Jones I have been saying this exact thing for a long time. Infinite nature chakra, plus the enormous chakra of six path sage mode/kurama/other tailed beast. Shit naruto could have defeated or stand his own against madara and kaguya.
You can.Sage mode is the third eye.Thays what he meant by the 6th sense and if you look at the picture of the chakra there's the 7 charkras and an eye.Ive accessed the third eye and my senses have heightened and clearer.And you can take natural energy by doing chakra meditation when your third eye is open.

4:23 the difficulty isnt just the place to Find, the real question is, if your Body is capable to learn it. Not everyone will be capable to learn and and Master Sage mode. You will need a Strong Body and Large Chakra level to be able to balance your and Nature Chakra together. If Nature Chakra overboard in your Body, and exceeds your Own Chakra, you turn into a Animal or into Stone.
Well minato wasn't talked about someone with large amounts of chakra like Naruto or Jiraya. So Im pretty sure having large amounts of chakra makes learning sage mode easier.
Explain the Uzumaki clan. Origins? Why and how did their clan go mostly extinct? How many are left? Special abilities? Most of these are obvious but I just want to see you do a video on this.

Kabuto just injected a bunch of Orochimaru dna into himself and started becoming more snake like. Considering he mastered snake sage mode he wouldn't start turning into a snake, although he likely would not have mastered it without injecting himself with orochimaru's DNA and jugo's dna.

If it ever get brought up, I hope Slug Sage Mode’s unique Senjutsu Technique is a Sage art Genjutsu technique, if only to complete the trio of Jutsu Techniques.
The Frogs have “Frog Kata”: a Sage Taijutsu Technique
The Snakes have “Inorganic Animation”: a Sage Ninjutsu Technique.
And the Slugs would have some form of Sage Genjutsu Technique.
Although that’s only if we get anything on it. It would most likely have to be done with Katsuyu, so far leaving the only candidates being Tsunade and Sakura, and Kishimoto seems to let them just be peaked with their forehead diamond and not develop them further at all, so Slug Sage Mode will probably always be hypothetical.
As someone new to Naruto would it be fair to compare the sensory perception of Sage Mode to Ultra Instinct but as a conscious use instead of automatic? Not counting effects of either beyond that.
