100% WILL split/crack the piston crown on a 1HZ aftermarket turbo build. Even with a really mild tune they do it. Head gaskets have always been an issue with the 1HZ as well as cracks between in the centre of the head. Sad really since the block material is really good. Ive never ever seen a broken ring land on a turbo'd 1HZ, only dozens of split pistons. Only time ive seen broken ring lands is when the "locals" used a petrol rag over the air filter to start them instead of replacing glow plugs. Over all they respond well but dont last, even when "built" for a turbo. Better off getting a 1HDT, much better option in every regard.
Havent had an issue after 14 years on dads 1hz turbo, do it once do it properly, and dont drive like a "P plater" flog. Id love to swap a 1HD-FT into my hzj79 instead of turboing my 1HZ.
Always Interesting, Especially As I Managed To Grab The Very Last Of The Landcruiser Sahara 200's 2021 Model, But Your Sound Is Always A Big Problem! This is really interesting. When you turbo a 1HZ, do you take the engine out of the bay? I have an NA 1HZ and have always wondered what this kind of work would cost?
Yeah nah, I wouldn’t rebuild a turbo 1hz. Just slap a good quality set up with a big intercooler. Get a dyno tune who’s done it before and don’t let it get to hot. If it blows up fte swap lol
