This is really reminiscent of the Negro League era team structure. Their games weren’t just straight up baseball, they were huge entertainment outlets for their fans. I love seeing that decades later, teams are still showing how much fun baseball can be when you don’t let tradition overshadow the importance of having fun!!!!
What a great point! It’s amazing to see how sports don’t always need to be done at the highest levels of competition but rather focus on the fans. Thanks for the comment.
@@RaisedMedia Wow, just since this comment you went from "nearly 1000" to 14,700. By the way, I'm someone who's generally not a sports fan (I like MMA, but I'm not really into any team sports). I used to watch basketball, but lost interest a few years ago. And I've literally never been interested in baseball. But this---THIS actually looks really fun.
This makes me a little sad as a baseball fan, but good for him for finding an opportunity to improve and create a community of fans! I agree that baseball can be boring, so I've liked the changes made in MLB to make it faster paced. As mentioned by another commenter, the Negro Leagues were fast-paced, unpredictable, and fun. I see MLB and even the Bananas incorporating some of that legacy. I'm thinking of Satchel Paige and his pitching style.
I know nothing about Baseball, but banana ball, the game rules, the stuff how to play, not the crasy stuff of banana ball, sounds like baseball should be.
Very cool! Baseball can be incredibly boring. It seems obvious that from a business perspective the audience should be the most important aspect of a sport yet they seem to be often neglected. Glad the Savannah Bananas are successful!
The size of the garbage bag industry in the US in 2022 was $2.59 billion. Using market size as a metric of entertainment is kind of pointless. The point is lots of people love baseball, but many don’t appreciate the sport and the MLB has done little to capture younger audiences unlike other sports like the NBA, NHL, NFL etc. Baseball has little league that’s great but it still focuses purely on the sport itself from a very competitive perspective. The NHL for example has done a great job of curating a hockey lifestyle that goes far beyond the game itself. It’s helping people uninterested in the underlying sport be slowly motivated to pay attention. The Savannah Bananas proved that baseball as a sport is very entertaining, but it doesn’t always have to be at the highest, most serious, competitive level. If you’re a baseball fan you’d want to be supporting the bananas as they are absolutely boosting viewership on the sport in general…which could convert to new audiences actually paying attention to MLB.
He realized that pro sports is just another form of entertainment. It’s not really about athleticism. Pro athletes are too delusional about how their job is to be good at sports when it’s really to be a good clown.
@@bettycogswell9851 not much, as almost every one on their teams are essentially pro players that came out of college and weren’t good enough to be in the league.

In hindsight it makes sense. The Harlem globetrotters are very successful and nobody thought to do it for another sport? Easy money 💰
One of the best innovations i came across
THIS is the way ALL old rigid boring forgotten sports can be resurrected for the new generations, mixing and matching
I was pissed at first but now I wanna play low key
This video is so amazing oh my god, this made me want to see these guys and I don't even like baseball at all
AAAWESOME IDEA
Idk if you can call a billion dollar industry boring.

I find their “bananaball” wildly cringey and annoying
It’s certainly not for everyone! It largely is meant to appeal to a younger audience but surprisingly the stands are filled with people of all ages.
You need to learn to have fun. They were recently inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. What does that tell you.
