native Savannahian here and Savannah has been the place to see ever since Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil book, but now we have the Bananas and we are soooo proud... even when a game got rained out recently and my daughter and her family were scheduled to see them, the team came outside the stadium for about an hour and a half to entertain their fans who did show up, some of them from out of state... they really do care about their fans and I think that shows every game...
I used to be a big baseball fan, but the expense & fun left & so did I. THIS sounds like a great, entertaining, family-friendly experience that I look forward to.
Used to be a sport that any dad from any income could take his kids to, but today, you drop hundreds to take 3 people to a game, and thats if you can avoid the gift shop and food
@seanceockett896 Well i mean, there are certain aspects of the game that were more exiting back then. More aggressive base running, more variety in pitches, and just overall more scrappy. That can be pretty fun. Nowadays, most pitchers rely on like 5 pitches in the whole league and base running is pretty relaxed. There are better batters now than there were then, but there are also so much more rules now that sort of limit how everyone plays. It really just depends on the person and what they’re expecting
I live in the Jacksonville, Florida area and have recently noticed the Bananas through YT videos. I usually didn’t follow minor league baseball until I followed this amazing team. I wish I could go to a game but being a disabled veteran I can only dream. I show my enthusiasm by buying a Bananas cap and I love it! Go Bananas!
Brit here, I used to love playing Rounders as a kid, the original game Baseball was adapted from. It does not have anywhere near the kind of rules and long draw out nature that baseball does, it's a very fun and informal game, for example, having matches broken us by people play fighting using their bats as swords was a common thing as the game was not this super serious thing. Banana Ball does seem closer to the 'sprit' of rounders. Next time I visit the US I'll see about going along to a game.
I’m a Brit and saw a short video of some guys dancing while playing baseball - it was great! And now, after watching this, I know who they are - what a wonderful and uplifting story.
It was a true experience to see them when they were in my town about 2 months ago. The Bananas and their opponents The Party Animals are so fun to watch, and their social media are super entertaining.
This is brilliant. Great short doc on this team and how they've changed the game, and the thinking of sports entertainment. Well done, Joe. Keep these videos coming please.
To Mr. and Mrs. Cole, I just learned about your vision and path to "Go Bananas". Baseball has needed this reinventive twist for at least 5 decades. I would love to see my hometown Lexington Legends in the mix of the Banana tour. Godspeed.
I live in Savannah and have been going to Grayson since the beginning of Bananaball. C'mon down y'all, it's a game you will never forget! And the Party Animals are just as fun too!
Just went to the Banana's game in Milwaukee last weekend! It was so much fun! Amazing idea. Now just to keep the scalpers from buying up tickets and selling them online for hundreds of $$.
I love what the Bananas are doing. However, saying that they did not seek ideas from Bill Veeck (and then you totally mispronounced his name. Read the book VEECK as in WRECK)) is a tragedy of epic proportions. Bill and Mike Veeck were the Bananas before there was the bananas. Let's give credit where credit is due--and use Google for a little history lesson :)
Jesse Cole mentions Veeck and P.T. Barnum and Disney and the WWE and the Harlem Globetrotters as his inspirations in his longer interviews. This video is just a cursory introduction to the team.

No way you really think baseball was more fun back in the day 😂

I didn't think that anything would make me like baseball ever again after the strikes broke my heart. The Bananas have proven me wrong!
