We have a 3870 Bayliner 1989. Check a few of these out. They are a 2 stateroom, 2 head W/ a tub, Fly Bridge and downstairs helm boat that is what we are going to do the loop in. Twin diesel and good solid boats. Love the video's Hope to see ya on the loop!

Awesome! That's about the age range we're looking at too. We'll take a look!

Try looking for an Bristol 42 trawler. Over built fiberglass.

Good to see you guys are back. I’m much older than you are, and I’m very happy to see your ambitious travel plans for the loop.

Ranger Tugs makes nice and good boats, but a little too “tricked out”, especially the large versions.
We are hoping to do the loop starting from FL in 2025.
We will do it in a 1992 twin diesel flybridge that the family has owned all of its life. We have done a bunch of updates to make it cruising friendly. Is it the perfect boat? No, but it is a good accessible option, and we know it well, and know the strengths and weaknesses of the boat and it’s systems.
It has been to the Great Lakes and back twice before. We repowered it with used smaller diesels to make it more fuel efficient off-plane when it was due for an engine update. All other systems have been renewed. It has solar and is anchor friendly. It has been redone with simplicity, redundancy, and repair ability in mind.
ALL boats are a compromise. There is no perfect boat, even with unlimited funds(but obviously more money helps some).
The major weakness for the loop of our boat are the exposed props, but we only draw 3 1/2 feet and have a good view from the fly bridge, which minimizes the grounding risk.
It had one hard grounding with damage the first month we owned it and 2 other soft groundings with no damage in 31 years! (One of the soft was with me at the helm, the hard was just very poor judgement by the helmsman). I’ve had more groundings in keel boats! Probably because you worry less about hitting the bottom and take a little more risk.
Happy hunting! Looking is a lot of fun, but also can get frustrating, we did the same for a while.
In the end, the goal is to just do it, and realize that all boats are a compromise, and just about any type of boat has done the loop successfully!! In the end functionality, simplicity, and the right price point are the most important.

You are right, there is no perfect boat but there is a near perfect boat for everyone and their needs! For us, our dog is a huge priority on the loop so we need safety in that regard for her. Good luck on your loop prep!

I feel like Ranger Tugs missed the boat with the 43. It seems the most compromised of all their offerings when factoring in size and price, compared to their other offerings which typically excel in this area.
If you can find one, checkout an Endeavor TrawlerCat 36. Affordable, fully protected twin props, shallow draft and air draft, plenty of space for its size, and it still fits in a standard 16’ wide slip. While it doesn’t have a fly bridge, the enclosed helm is elevated enough that a fly bridge wasn’t missed.

Good to know! We'll keep an eye out for one of those! We do love the catamaran style

One question… what is your price point? The reason I ask is looking at new bazillion dollar boats has very little to do with on one of the older more affordable models of the same boat. Now if all your doing is having a great time looking at new boats then I’m with you as I love doing that as well. Have you guys been approved yet from an insurance company for a boat older than 20 years with owners that never had a motor yacht before?
    Thanks for fielding my questions.
    Cheers.

Definitely see where you're coming from! We just love going to the boat shows and seeing the new things. Our price point is much lower :) We're done with the fancy boat videos for awhile!

A boat is a pay for new now or pay more for used later proposition. I am on my 4th boat and have paid more on the used boats than I ever did on the new boats. Best of luck to you on your search.

Boat ownership is never ending money dumping but the joys tend to be worth it! Thank you!

RT's are know as Entry level boats. Yes they look nice. BUT-They would be a hard pass for us in the PNW as evidenced by talking to X RT owners. "Loose cabinets, cheap (keep price down) components, rough ride" to name just a few.

Hopefully soon! We would love to purchase sooner rather than later so we have time to get used to it before setting off, but are nervous about hurricane season since we live in Florida

I just have to ask how in the world are you two so young and can even remotely consider buying a 43' ranger tug? Obviously the money isn't coming from this channel with only 2k subs so come on and share what you both do for a living? I only ask because I wan't a 43' and can only afford a 25' one. Please answer

Hey Rich! We cannot afford a Ranger Tug 43 :) We love the look of them and just wanted to show it off while we were at FLIBS. Because most people doing the Great Loop are much older than us and retired, we figure someone else might like the tour, especially if they don't live in a state where they can access these boats. We both work full-time...Evan an engineer and Karly in marketing. Our plan is to add Starlink to our Great Loop boat and continue working when we set off (hopefully) in January 2025!
